In this paper, we propose a method that performs a text-video retrieval model by replacing video properties using captions. In general, the exisiting embedding-based models consist of both joint embedding space construction and the CNN-based video encoding process, which requires a lot of computation in the training as well as the inference process. To overcome this problem, we introduce a video-captioning module to replace the visual property of video with captions generated by the video-captioning module. To be specific, we adopt the caption generator that converts candidate videos into captions in the inference process, thereby enabling direct comparison between the text given as a query and candidate videos without joint embedding space. Through the experiment, the proposed model successfully reduces the amount of computation and inference time by skipping the visual processing process and joint embedding space construction on two benchmark dataset, MSR-VTT and VATEX.

The prompt development in the field of video is the outbreak of online services which replaces the television media within a shorter period in gaining popularity. The online videos are encouraged more in use due to the captions displayed along with the scenes for better understandability. Not only entertainment media but other marketing companies and organizations are utilizing videos along with captions for their product promotions. The need for captions is enabled for its usage in many ways for hearing impaired and non-native people. Research is continued in an automatic display of the appropriate messages for the videos uploaded in shows, movies, educational videos, online classes, websites, etc. This paper focuses on two concerns namely the first part dealing with the machine learning method for preprocessing the videos into frames and resizing, the resized frames are classified into multiple actions after feature extraction. For the feature extraction statistical method, GLCM and Hu moments are used. The second part deals with the deep learning method where the CNN architecture is used to acquire the results. Finally both the results are compared to find the best accuracy where CNN proves to give top accuracy of 96.10% in classification.
Purpose We introduce a groundbreaking surveillance system explicitly designed to overcome the limitations typically associated with conventional surveillance systems, which often focus primarily on object-centric behavior analysis. Design/methodology/approach The study introduces an innovative approach to risk assessment in surveillance, employing image captioning to generate descriptive captions that effectively encapsulate the interactions among objects, actions, and spatial elements within observed scenes. To support our methodology, we developed a distinctive dataset comprising pairs of [image-caption-danger score] for training purposes. We fine-tuned the BLIP-2 model using this dataset and utilized BERT to decipher the semantic content of the generated captions for assessing risk levels. Findings In a series of experiments conducted with our self-constructed datasets, we illustrate that these datasets offer a wealth of information for risk assessment and display outstanding performance in this area. In comparison to models pre-trained on established datasets, our generated captions thoroughly encompass the necessary object attributes, behaviors, and spatial context crucial for the surveillance system. Additionally, they showcase adaptability to novel sentence structures, ensuring their versatility across a range of contexts.
Conventional caption extraction methods use the difference between frames or color segmentation methods from the whole image. Because these methods depend heavily on heuristics, we should have a priori knowledge of the captions to be extracted. Also they are difficult to implement. In this paper, we propose a method that uses little heuristics and simplified algorithm. We use topographical features of characters to extract the character points and use KMST(Kruskal minimum spanning tree) to extract the candidate regions for captions. Character regions are determined by testing several conditions and verifying those candidate regions. Experimental results show that the candidate region extraction rate is 100%, and the character region extraction rate is 98.2%. And then we can see the results that caption area in complex images is well extracted.
In this paper, we propose the method of extracting the caption regions from news video and the method of recognizing the captions that can be used mainly for content-based indexing and retrieving the MPEG-2 compressed news for NOD(News On Demand). The proposed method can reduce the searching time on detecting caption frames with minimum MPEG-2 decoding, and effectively eliminate the noise in caption regions by deliberately devised preprocessing. Because the kind of fonts that are used for captions is not various in the news video, an enhanced template matching method is used for recognizing characters. We could obtain good recognition result in the experiment of sports news video by the proposed methods.
Video captioning refers to the process of extracting features from a video and generating video captions using the extracted features. This paper introduces a deep neural network model and its learning method for effective video captioning. In this study, visual features as well as semantic features, which effectively express the video, are also used. The visual features of the video are extracted using convolutional neural networks, such as C3D and ResNet, while the semantic features are extracted using a semantic feature extraction network proposed in this paper. Further, an attention-based caption generation network is proposed for effective generation of video captions using the extracted features. The performance and effectiveness of the proposed model is verified through various experiments using two large-scale video benchmarks such as the Microsoft Video Description (MSVD) and the Microsoft Research Video-To-Text (MSR-VTT).

We present a new approach to evaluate the generated texts by Large Language Models (LLMs) for meme classification. Analyzing an image with embedded texts, i.e. meme, is challenging, even for existing state-of-the-art computer vision models. By leveraging large image-to-text models, we can extract image descriptions that can be used in other tasks, such as classification. In our methodology, we first generate image captions using BLIP-2 models. Using these captions, we use GPT-4 to evaluate the relationship between the caption and the meme text. The results show that OPT6.7B provides a better rating than other LLMs, suggesting that the proposed method has a potential for meme classification.
