Two methods of the nonlinear static pushover analysis have been presented for the performance-based seismic design and evaluation of MDOF continuous bridges. Guidelines for buildings presented in FEMA-273 applying the Displacement Coefficient Method (DCM) and in ATC applying the Capacity Spectrum Method(CSM) have been modified for MDOF bridges. Two methods are compared with the time- history analysis. The lateral load distribution pattern for seismic loads has been examined in the static pushover analysis. The force-based fiber frame finite element has been implemented in the modeling of reinforced concrete piers.
The performance evaluation of reinforcement concrete structure is carried out as a function of the following performance influencing factors: (1) the strength of concrete, (2) longitudinal reinforcement, (3) transverse reinforcement, (4) aspect ratio, and (5) axial force. With various values of the five parameters, eigenvalue analysis and non-linear static analysis were performed to investigate the structural yield displacement, yield basis shear force, and static performance of ductility ratio. In addition, the performance evaluation is carried out according to the modified capacity spectrum method (FEMA-440) using the results of non-linear static analysis, and the effect of each parameter on performance point is analyzed. Based on the result of eigenvalue analysis and non-linear static analysis indicates, that the natural period and the ductility ratio are affected more by the structural properties than the material properties. In case of the analysis of the criterion of performance points, the effect of section shape is one of the important factors together with natural period and ductility ratio.

Water-soluble collagen (30 wt%) was entrapped within oil phase of lipstick using reversed micelle method to improve the moisture capacity of the lipstick. Reversed micelles containing collagen were prepared using caprylic/capric triglyceride as external phase and polyoxyethylene (10) octylphenyl ether (Triton X-100) and 1-dodecanol as surfactant and co-surfactant, respectively. The formation of reversed micelle encapsulating collagen was confirmed by measuring electric conductivity and UV-vis spectrum using methylene blue (MB). The stability and moisture capacity of the lipstick containing 20 wt% collagen encapsulated reversed micelles were observed by measuring rheology property, moisture content and amino acid content. The molecular ratio (W, water-pool) of water to surfactant (Triton X-100) in the most stable reversed micelle was ${\leq}$ 10. The hardness of the lipstick had no difference with that of the lipstick without reversed micelle, and the moisture content was increased to 59% and the amino acid content was 92.7%.
The frequency variation among speakers is one of problems in the speech recognition. This paper applies fuzzy theory to solve the variation problem of frequency features. Reference patterns are expressed by fuzzified patterns which are produced by the peak frequency and the peak energy extracted from codebooks which are generated from training words uttered by several speakers, as they should include common features of speech signals. Words are recognized by fuzzy inference which uses the certainty factor between the reference patterns and the test fuzzified patterns which are produced by the peak frequency and the peak energy extracted from the power spectrum of input speech signals. Practically, in computing the certainty factor, to reduce memory capacity and computation requirements we propose a new equation which calculates the improved certainty factor using only the difference between two fuzzy values. As a result of experiments to test this word recognition method by fuzzy interence with Korean digits, it is shown that this word recognition method using the new equation presented in this paper, can solve the variation problem of frequency features and that the memory capacity and computation requirements are reduced.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate seismic capacity of seismically isolated building according to the earthquake motion record selection method. To analyze the seismic behavior, 20-story building is designed, which has base isolation system. The using earthquake motion record were selected by two categories. The one is a proposed earthquake record according to soil type and response spectrum shape, and the other is a well known earthquake events such as El Centro (1940). The time history analysis results of base isolation buildings be induced difference results according to each ground motion records. Therefore detailed guidelines for the ground motion records selection method must be prepared. And the response of isolation story displacement and shear force show good seismic performance in consideration of the proposed earthquake records.
The effects of past earthquakes have demonstrated the seismic vulnerability of confined masonry structures (CMSs) to earthquakes. The results of experimental analysis indicate that damage to these structures depends on lateral displacement applied to the walls. Seismic evaluation lacks an analytical approach because of the complexity of the behavior of this type of structure; an empirical approach is often used for this purpose. Seismic assessment and risk analysis of CMSs, especially in area have a large number of such buildings is difficult and could be riddled with error. The present study used analytical and numerical models to develop a simplified nonlinear displacement-based approach for seismic assessment of a CMS. The methodology is based on the concept of ESDOF and displacement demand and is compared with displacement capacity at the characteristic period of vibration according to performance level. Displacement demand was identified using the nonlinear displacement spectrum for a specified limit state. This approach is based on a macro model and nonlinear incremental dynamic analysis of a 3D prototype structure taking into account uncertainty of the mechanical properties and results in a simple, precise method for seismic assessment of a CMS. To validate the approach, a case study was considered in the form of an analytical fragility curve which was then compared with the precise method.
Uncertainty quantification is the most important challenge in seismic fragility assessment of structures. The precision increment of the quantification method leads to reliable results but at the same time increases the computational costs and the latter will be so undesirable in cases such as reliability-based design optimization which includes numerous probabilistic seismic analyses. Accordingly, the authors' effort has been put on the development and validation of an approach that has reduced computational cost in seismic fragility assessment. In this regard, it is necessary to apply the appropriate methods for consideration of two categories of uncertainties consisting of uncertainties related to the ground motions and structural characteristics, separately. Also, cable-stayed bridges have been specifically selected because as a result of their complexity and the according time-consuming seismic analyses, reducing the computations corresponding to their fragility analyses is worthy of studying. To achieve this, the fragility assessment of three case studies is performed based on existing and proposed approaches, and a comparative study on the efficiency in the estimation of seismic responses. For this purpose, statistical validation is conducted on the seismic demand and fragility resulting from the mentioned approaches, and through a comprehensive interpretation, sufficient arguments for the acceptable errors of the proposed approach are presented. Finally, this study concludes that the combination of the Capacity Spectrum Method (CSM) and Uniform Design Sampling (UDS) in advanced proposed forms can provide adequate accuracy in seismic fragility estimation at a significantly reduced computational cost.

Since transmissions of large amounts of data are frequent, users require more bandwidth, and the need for communications networks having greater bandwidth is increasing. One communications network satisfying this need is an optical communications network. Therefore, studies to increase the transmission capacity of optical communications systems have been carried out. However, in a general optical communications system, a signal transmitted through optical fiber (a transmission medium) is detected through direct detection in the receiving system. This method has a disadvantage in that the entire bandwidth of the optical signal cannot be utilized. Also, when transmitting an optical signal, there is a problem where the signal-to-noise ratio is affected by neighboring channels. To overcome this situation, various studies are being conducted to minimize the influence of external interference and noise. This paper overcomes the situation by transmitting spectrum-sliced signals using the digital transmission system, FSK. Analyzing the characteristics of the signals detected in the receiver of the optical communications system, Gaussian distribution is used for the PDF of the spectrum-sliced signal, and the signal at the receiving end of the optical communications system is assumed to have a k-square distribution. The results of the analysis confirmed it is better to transmit the spectrally divided signal rather than transmit the laser source.
In this paper, we propose the speaker adaptive word recognition method using a mapped membership function, in order to absorb a fluctuation owing to personal difference which is a problem of speaker independent speech recognition. In the training procedure of this method, the mapped membership function is made with the fuzzy theory introducded into a mapped codebook, between an unknown speaker's spectrum pattern and a standard speaker's one. In the recognition procedure, an input pattern of an unknown speaker is reconstructed to the pattern which is adapted to that of a standard speaker by the mapped membership function. To show the validity of this method, word recognition experiments are carried out using 28 DDD area names. The recognition rate of the conventional speaker-adaptive method using a mapped codebook by VQ is 64.9[%], and that made by a fuzzy VQ is 76.2[%]. Throughout the experiment using a mapped membership function, we can achieve 95.4[%] recognition rate. This shows that our proposed method is more excellent in recognition performance. Moreover, this method doesn't need an iterative training procedure to make the mapped membership function, and memory capacity and computation requirements for this method are reduced to 1/30 and 1/500 time of those for the conventional method using a mapped codebook, respectively.
In this paper, a new image watermarking algorithm is proposed which can hide specific information of an ID card's owner in photo image for preventing ID's photo forgery. Proposed algorithm uses the image segmentation and the correlation peak position modulation of spread spectrum. The watermark embedded in photo ensures not only robustness against printing and scanning but also sufficient information capacity hiding unique number such as social security numbers in small-sized photo. Another advantage of proposed method is extracting accurate information with error tolerance within some rotation range by using $2^h{\times}2^w$ unit sample space not instead $1{\times}1$ pixels for insertion and extraction of information. 40 bits information can be embedded and extracted at $256{\times}256$ sized ID photo with BER value of 0 % when the test condition is 300dpi scanner and photo printer with 22 photos. In conclusion, proposed algorithm shows the robustness for noise and rotational errors occured during printing and scanning.
