  • Pseudomanas fluorescens was selected from mushroom and studied in both batch and continuous culture in order to find out optimum conditions for cultivation. P. fluorescens is an aerobic bacterium and antagonistic to Pseudomonas tolaasii which causes blotch disease on the mushroom cap. Cells of P. fluorescens were grown well on medium containing 30g/L of glucose, whereas the growth was inhibited with the glucose concentration at higher than 30g/L. The highest value of specific growth rate and productivity were obtained when using 10g/L of yeast extract. Optimum concentrations of $NH_4Cl$ and $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ for culture were found to be 1.0g/L and 0.1g/L respectively. Optimum concentration of $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ used as a sulfur source was 1.0g/L. It was also found that the cell concentrations were at the maximum level when grown on the medium containing 1.0g/L of $KH_2PO_4$ and 0.1g/L of $CaCl_2$. Also, the optimum culture conditions were $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 6.0. Cultivation of P.fluorescens at high initial dissolved oxygen (D.O) value led to a decrease of bacterial productivity in batch culture. Maximum productivity was achieved at 68 for the initial D.O value.

  • Objective: To three-dimensionally elucidate the effects of occlusal hypofunction on the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone proper of rat molars by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Methods: Occlusal function in the molar area was restricted by attaching an anterior bite plate on the maxillary incisors and a metal cap on the mandibular incisors of 5-week-old male Wistar rats for 1 week. The periodontal ligament space and alveolar bone proper around roots of the mandibular first molar were assessed by histology and micro-CT. Results: The periodontal ligament space was narrower and the alveolar bone proper was sparser and less continuous in the hypofunction group than in the control group. Further, both the volume of the periodontal ligament and the volumetric ratio of the alveolar bone proper to the total tissue in the region of interest were significantly lower in the hypofunction group (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Occlusal hypofunction induces atrophic changes in the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone proper of rat molars.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the occlusal interference on the activity of anterior temporal and masseter muscles during maximal biting. In seven subjects, cast hard gold cap providing new occlusal surface approximately 0.5mm above its occlusal level was cemented on the mandibular right first molar during aquired experimental period. EMG recordings were taken bilaterally during one second hardest possible clenching four times. This procedure was done not only before, immediately after, 48 hours after and one week after cementation of interfering crown but also immediately after and one week after removal of occlusal interfering crown. The results were as follows : 1. Immediately after cementation of interfering crown, the activity was significantly decreased in all muscles studied. 2. One week after cementaion of interfering crown, the lowest muscle activity was recorded. But clinical sign and symptoms were significantly subsided. 3. Immediately after removal of interfering crown, the activity was increased in all muscles studied. 4. One week after removal of interfering crown, the activity of masseter muscles was increased to the level of before cementation of interfering crown. 5. There was no significant activity difference between right and left in the muscle studied. 6. Masseter muscle activity showed significant change than anterior temporalis with the unilateral mandibular posterior tooth interference.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to compare the coronal bone level and patient satisfaction in 1-implant and 2-implant assisted mandibular overdentures. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twenty patients who had maladaptive mandibular dentures were treated in this study. Patients were randomly divided into two groups. The first group received 1 implant (Simple line II, Implantium, South Korea) in their mandibular midline and the second group received 2 implants in their B and D regions (according to Misch's category). If the primary stability of each implant was at least 60 ISQ, ball attachment was placed and denture relined with soft liner. After 6 weeks, retentive cap incorporated with hard acrylic resin. In the 6 and 12 months recalls, periapical digital radiograph were made and visual analogue scale questionnaires were used to record patient satisfaction. The Friedman test was done for comparing the presurgical and postsurgical parameters in each group and the U-Mann Whitney test (P<.05) was done for comparison of post-treatment results between the two groups. RESULTS. All implants achieved sufficient primary stability to be immediately loaded. Patient satisfaction was high, and there were no significant differences between two groups (P>.05). In addition, mean marginal bone loss was $0.6{\pm}0.67$ mm in the first group and $0.6{\pm}0.51$ mm in the second group, after 12 month. Mean marginal bone loss showed no significant differences between two groups. CONCLUSION. This preliminary one-year result indicated that mandibular overdentures anchored to a single implant can be a safe and cost-effective method as a starting step for implant-overdenture treatment.

  • As determined single coaxial cable for the interface between satellite and ground station in COMS RF compatibility test, RF supporting unit was required to allow signals in different frequency-band to be exchanged in the single coaxial cable. In addition, the path loss between satellite and ground station in normal operation should be simulated through two RF supporting units connected to the ends of single coaxial cable. As an effort to design RF supporting unit, level diagram was firstly conducted on the basis of measured data for each element. From the level diagram, it was found that single coaxial cable connected with two RF supporting units properly represented the path loss between satellite and ground station After RF supporting unit was integrated on aluminum plate, it was tested that input signal level at each test cap linked with MODCS and TC&R was tunable within the required dynamic range. RF supporting unit, now completely integrated, will be applied in the upcoming COMS RF compatibility test.

  • A small monopole antenna with a novel impedance matching structure is proposed in this paper. The proposed antenna is designed for W-LAN(IEEE 802.11b). The antenna design concept is based on a ${\lambda}/8$ folded monopole antenna with a self-impedance matching structure. The size of the proposed antenna is smaller than the resonant length, thus the impedance at the terminal of the antenna becomes very capacitive. To compensate fur this impedance mismatching, the proposed antenna employs a novel self-impedance matching structure. The self-impedance matching structure is located on the top of the antenna; it improves the impedance matching and ultimately the efficiency of the antenna. The measured results of the proposed antenna show reasonable agreement with prediction.

  • The goal of this research was evaluating and suggesting the solution of preventing carbonation of concrete replaced high-volume of slag. The concrete mixtures were prepared with high-volume slag and recycled aggregate, and the concrete samples were evaluated the carbonation depth with various surface treatment methods. For various surface treatment methods and surface protecting sheets, bonding strength and carbonation depth were measured. Basically, from the results, the carbonation of concrete was completely prevented with any type of surface treatment method and surface protecting sheet as far as the surface treatment materials were remained. Therefore, in this research, it was known and suggested that the easiness of handling and sufficient bonding performance was much important than the quality of surface protecting sheets.
