The adsorption characteristics of H$_2$S, NH$_3$and $CH_3$SH on the graphite carbon have been investigated using Grand Canonical Monte Carlo(GCMC) method with universal force field (UFF) and dreiding force field. Most of the activated carbons used in vapor phase adsorption have the micropore of 6$\AA$ to 20$\AA$ and the specific surface area of ca. 1000 m$^2$/g, as the result of $N_2$ adsorption by BET method. For the more efficient comparison, the activated carbons have been manipulated with different pore sizes. The adsorption characteristics of H$_2$S, NH$_3$and $CH_3$SH have been considered at various temperatures and pressures. The adsorption amount using Dreiding force field is predicted to be lower than that using UFF. As the temperature is going to high, the adsorption amount of adsorbates is decreased due to their vaporization. Considering the pore size effect, the adsorption characteristic depends on the adsorbate size, polarity and interaction between adsorbates, etc. At all cases employed in this study, NH$_3$ is barely adsorbed and $CH_3$SH is preferentially adsorbed on the graphite carbon. Our theoretical result is qualitatively good agreement with the experimental observation. However, there are some quantitative discrepancies depending on the functional groups and pore size distribution on the real activated carbons used in experiment.
Portable low-cost magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems have the potential to enable "point-of-care" and timely MRI diagnosis, and to make this imaging modality available to routine scans and to people in underdeveloped countries and areas. With simplicity, no maintenance, no power consumption, and low cost, permanent magnets/magnet arrays/magnet assemblies are attractive to be used as a source of static magnetic field to realize the portability and to lower the cost for an MRI scanner. However, when taking the canonical Fourier imaging approach and using linear gradient fields, homogeneous fields are required in a scanner, resulting in the facts that either a bulky magnet/magnet array is needed, or the imaging volume is too small to image an organ if the magnet/magnet array is scaled down to a portable size. Recently, with the progress on image reconstruction based on non-linear gradient field, static field patterns without spatial linearity can be used as spatial encoding magnetic fields (SEMs) to encode MRI signals for imaging. As a result, the requirements for the homogeneity of the static field can be relaxed, which allows permanent magnets/magnet arrays with reduced sizes, reduced weight to image a bigger volume covering organs such as a head. It offers opportunities of constructing a truly portable low-cost MRI scanner. For this exciting potential application, permanent magnets/magnet arrays have attracted increased attention recently. A magnet/magnet array is strongly associated with the imaging volume of an MRI scanner, image reconstruction methods, and RF excitation and RF coils, etc. through field patterns and field homogeneity. This paper offers a review of permanent magnets and magnet arrays of different kinds, especially those that can be used for spatial encoding towards the development of a portable and low-cost MRI system. It is aimed to familiarize the readers with relevant knowledge, literature, and the latest updates of the development on permanent magnets and magnet arrays for MRI. Perspectives on and challenges of using a permanent magnet/magnet array to supply a patterned static magnetic field, which does not have spatial linearity nor high field homogeneity, for image reconstruction in a portable setup are discussed.
The denoising and reconstruction of color images are increasingly studied in the field of computer vision and image processing. Especially, the denoising and reconstruction of color face images are more difficult than those of natural images because of the structural characteristics of human faces as well as the subtleties of color interactions. In this paper, we propose a denoising method based on PCA reconstruction for removing complex color noises on human faces, which is not easy to remove by using vectorial color filters. The proposed method is composed of the following five steps; training of canonical eigenface space using PCA, automatic extracting of face features using active appearance model, relighing of reconstructed color image using bilateral filter, extraction of noise regions using the variance of training data, and reconstruction using partial information of input images (except the noise regions) and blending of the reconstructed image with the original image. Experimental results show that the proposed denosing method efficiently removes complex color noises on input face images.

The digital filter is essential element in digital signal processing area. It needs a high computational burden caused by multiplying and adding. The multiplier in digital filter is a dominant element, which occupies an wide area at the field of VLSI design, needs high power-consuming and also decides critical path that affects to filter performance. In this paper we proposed the simultaneous transform method which is represented 2's complementary representation to CSD and MSD representation to solve a complexity problem and to improve a computational speed. The performance of proposed method was implemented in VHDL and applied to an digital filters, was evaluated the decreasing of critical path delay.

The echolocation calls of bats can provide useful information about species that are generally difficult to observe in the field. In many cases characteristics of call structure can be used to identify species and also to obtain information about aspects of the bat's ecology. We describe and compare the echolocation call structure of 14 of the 21 bat species found in Korea, for most of which the ecology and behavior are poorly understood. In total, 1,129 pulses were analyzed from 93 echolocation call sequences of 14 species. Analyzed pulses could be classified into three types according to the pulse shape: FM/CF/FM type, FM type and FM/QCF type. Pulse structures of all species were consistent with previous studies, although geographic variation may be indicated in some species. Overall classification rate provided by the canonical discriminant analysis was relatively low. Especially in the genera Myotis and Murina, there are large overlaps in spectral and temporal parameters between species. On the other hand, classification rates for the FM/QCF type species were relatively high. The results show that acoustic monitoring could be a powerful tool for assessing bat activity and distribution in Korea, at least for FM/QCF and FM/CF/FM species.
The right-handed double-helical structure of DNA (B-DNA), which follows the Watson-Crick model, is the canonical form of DNA existing in normal physiological settings. Even though an alternative left-handed structure of DNA (Z-DNA) was discovered in the late 1970s, Z-form nucleic acid has not received much attention from biologists, because it is extremely unstable under physiological conditions, has an ill-defined mechanism of its formation, and has obscure biological functions. The debate about the physiological relevance of Z-DNA was settled only after a class of proteins was found to potentially recognize the Z-form architecture of DNA. Interestingly, these Z-DNA binding proteins can bind not only the left-handed form of DNA but also the equivalent structure of RNA (Z-RNA). The Z-DNA/RNA binding proteins present from viruses to humans function as important regulators of biological processes. In particular, the proteins ADAR1 and ZBP1 are currently being extensively re-evaluated in the field to understand potential roles of the noncanonical Z-conformation of nucleic acids in host immune responses and human disease. Despite a growing body of evidence supporting the biological importance of Z-DNA/RNA, there remain many unanswered principal questions, such as when Z-form nucleic acids arise and how they signal to downstream pathways. Understanding Z-DNA/RNA and the sensors in different pathophysiological conditions will widen our view on the regulation of immune responses and open a new door of opportunity to develop novel types of immunomodulatory therapeutic possibilities.
Throughout this paper, we are working on the complex number field C. The aim of this paper is to explain the applications of Theorem 2 in .cint. 1. In the surface theory, the adjoint linear system has played important roles and many tools have been developed to understand it. In the cases of higher dimensional varieties, we don't have any useful tools so far. Theorem 2 implies that it is enough to compute the dimension of the adjoint linear system to check the birationality. We can compute, somehow, the dimension of the adjoint linear system. For example, we can get an information about $h^{0}$ (X, $O_{x}$( $K_{x}$ + D)) from Euler characteristic of vertical bar $K_{X}$ + D vertical bar and some vanishing theorems. We are going to show the applications of Theorem 2 to smooth three-folds and smooth fourfold, specially, of general type with a nef canonical divisor, smooth Fano variety, and Calabi-Yau manifold. Our main results are Theorem A and Theorem B. Most of birationality problems in Theorem A and Theorem B have been studied. (see Ando [1] and Matsuki [4] for the detail matters.) But Theorem 2 gives short and easy proofs in the cases of dimension 3 and improves the previously known results in the cases of dimension 4.4. 4.4.
Numerical experiments of OAT (Ocean Acoustic Tomography) are carried out in the East Sea of Korea where the canonical ocean has been perturbed by a mesoscale warm eddy and a thermal front. In order to estimate the horizontal and vertical structure of water temperature of the perturbed ocean, the experimental area is divided into 16 cells with 8 pairs of sources and receivers for a horizontal slice and the water column is divided into 8 layers for a vertical slice. The inversely estimated temperature field by using SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) method reveals the eddy and frontal structure clearly. The rms errors of the two horizontal slices are less than $0.4^{\circ}C$ and $1.7^{\circ}C$ at 400 m and 200 m depths, respectively, while the error in the vertical slice is less than $1.0^{\circ}C.$ For better estimation of temperature by OAT method, particularly for the East Sea, a range-dependent ray model should be used to solve the forward problem. At the same time, improvement in computing the refracted ray path between vertical layers is required to obtain more accurate travel time information. The results of the present experiment give rise to a possibility of application of OAT in remote sensing of the ocean thermal structure.
This paper presents an optimal implementation of a Daubechies-based pipelined discrete wavelet packet transform (DWPT) processor using finite impulse response (FIR) filter banks. The feed-forward pipelined (FFP) architecture is exploited for implementation of the DWPT on the field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The proposed DWPT is based on an efficient transpose form structure, thereby reducing its computational complexity by half of the system. Moreover, the efficiency of the design is further improved by using a canonical-signed digit-based binary expression (CSDBE) and advanced functional sharing (AFS) methods. In this work, the AFS technique is proposed to optimize the convolution of FIR filter banks for DWPT decomposition, which reduces the hardware resource utilization by not requiring any embedded digital signal processing (DSP) blocks. The proposed AFS and CSDBE-based DWPT system is embedded on the Virtex-7 FPGA board for testing. The proposed design is implemented as an intellectual property (IP) logic core that can easily be integrated into DSP systems for sub-band analysis. The achieved results conclude that the proposed method is very efficient in improving hardware resource utilization while maintaining accuracy of the result of DWPT.

Deep-learning-based Super-Resolution (SR) methods were evaluated to reconstruct pressure fields with a high resolution from low-resolution images taken from a coarse grid simulation. In addition to a canonical SRCNN(super-resolution convolutional neural network) model, two modified models from SRCNN, adding an activation function (ReLU or Sigmoid function) to the output layer, were considered in the present study. High resolution images obtained by three models were more vivid and reliable qualitatively, compared with a conventional super-resolution method of bicubic interpolation. A quantitative comparison of statistical similarity showed that SRCNN model with Sigmoid function achieved best performance with less dependency on original resolution of input images.
