  • We have developed twist nematic liquid crystal displays (TN-LCDs), of which the viewing angle can be controlled. The TN-LCDs have the function of switching between the wide viewing mode and narrow viewing angle mode using two tilted LC layers. Tilt angles of the two LC layers, $14^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ were required in both wide viewing angle and narrow viewing angle modes, respectively. In this way, the viewing angle range in terms of contrast ratio 5:1 can be switched from $120^{\circ}$ to $60^{\circ}$.

  • Nonoptimal placement of short-channel-length TFTs in large-grained polycrystalline Si films with a periodic microstructure, as for instance obtained via 2-shot SLS, can potentially lead to degradation in the overall uniformity of the resultant devices. In this paper, we explain and demonstrate that by simply introducing a well-defined misorientation between the devices and the periodic microstructure, it is possible to significantly reduce (and potentially entirely eliminate) the device nonuniformity problem that can arise from such a cause.

  • To determine three-dimensional fiber orientation states in injection-molded short fiber composites a CLSM (Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope) is used. Since the CLSM optically sections the composites, more than two cross-sections either on or below the surface of the composite can be obtained. Three dimensional fiber orientation states can be determined with geometric parameters of fibers on two parallel cross-sections. For experiment, carbon fiber reinforced polystyrene is examined by the CLSM. Geometric parameters of fibers are measured by image analysis. In order to compactly describe fiber orientation states, orientation tensors are used. Orientation tensors are determined at different positions of the prepared specimen. Three dimensional orientation states are obtained without the difficulty in determining the out-of-plane angles by utilizing images on two parallel planes acquired by the CLSM. Orientation states are different at different positions and show the shell-core structure along the thickness of the specimen.

  • We prepared polymer-PCM gels such as prepared frozen gel from polypropylene and n-Paraffin for thermal storage and release materials, their basic properties and possible applications especially in latent heat storage. The preparation methods are used to melting method and absorption method respectively. The composition and properties of prepared frozen gels from polypropylene and n-Paraffin were observed by DSC, FT-IR spectra, ARES and Elemental analysis. We can prepare frozen gels in different temperature for latent heat storage materials as controlling composition of phase change material as well as using different incorporating phase change materials. These frozen gels can be used to latent heat storage materials for several applications.

  • Porous $Al_2O_3$ film can be utilized as template for fabrication of nano-structured materials. Porous anodic alumina layer as template was prepared by anodization of aluminum in oxalic acid, and the pore diameter and barrier-type alumina layer can be controlled for proper anodizing parameter by widening process in $H_3PO_4$ solution. The $SiO_2$ nanodot and Ni nanowire was fabricated using anodic alumina template and their characteristics were investigated using SEM and TEM with EDS. Especially the growth mechanism of $SiO_2$ nanodot in alumina membrane compared with thinning of the alumina barrier layer during anodization was also investigated.

  • Piezoelectric materials can directly convert mechanical energy to electrical one, and vice versa. Research on piezoelectric materials and devices has a long history, and now many relevant products are available in a wide range of applications such as medical, military, industrial, home appliance, and mobile electronics. One of the major research trends now is not only to further improve the physical properties of the piezoelectric materials, but also to reduce the size of the piezoelectric devices. This review focuses on the development of piezoelectric thin films that can enhance the performance of microtransducers.

  • Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with uniform diameter and controlled size were prepared from catalytic decomposition of $\textrm{C}_{2}\textrm{H}_{2}$ with Ni-MgO catalyst treated by mechanochemical (MC) process. The properties of Ni catalyst, such as size, distribution and morphology, can be governed by tuning grinding time in MC process. As a result, size and structure of CNFs can be tailored. The effect of grinding time to the as-grown CNFs was studied. CNFs with diameter from 10-70 nm were synthesized. CNFs with bundle formation sharing one tip and twisted CNFs were also synthesized with catalyst treated by MC process.

  • Laser-irradiation-induced crystallization of as-deposited amorphous precursor films constitutes an integral step in fabricating LTPS TFTs. Consideration of various factors leads one to conclude that, for display manufacturers, choosing how to crystallize the films can be identified as being tactically and strategically significant. This paper will begin by reviewing the fundamental aspects of laser crystallization, and then present noteworthy advances and progress, which have recently been accomplished in the field. In particular, we will focus on communicating the evolving status associated with the sequential lateral solidification (SLS) method, which can be presently identified as the most strategically enabling crystallization method.

  • The phase transition between amorphous and crystalline states in chalcogenide semiconductor films can be controlled by electrical or pulsed laser beam; hence some chalcogenide semiconductor films can be applied to electrically write/erase nonvolatile memory devices, where the low conductive amorphous state and the high conductive crystalline state are assigned to binary states. In this letter, the characteristics of phase transition in differential chalcogenide thin film are investigated. Al was used for the electrode as the thickness of 100, 300, 500 nm, respectively.
