In this paper, we describe the modeling for the 3D robot laser scanning system consisting of a laser stripe projector, camera, and 5-DOF robot and propose its calibration method. Nonlinear radial distortion in the camera model is considered for improving the calibration accuracy. The 3D range data is calculated using the optical triangulation principle which uses the geometrical relationship between the camera and the laser stripe plane. For optimal estimation of the system model parameters, real-coded genetic algorithm is applied in the calibration process. Experimental results show that the constructed system is able to measure the 3D position within about 1mm error. The proposed scheme could be applied to the kinematically dissimilar robot system without losing the generality and has a potential for recognition for the unknown environment.

In case of visual sensing systems with multiple mirrors, systematic errors need to be reduced by the system calibration and the mirror position adjustment in order to enhance system measurement accuracy. In this paper, a self calibration method is presented for a visual sensing system designed to measure the three-dimensional information in deformable peg-in-hole tasks. It is composed of a CCD camera and a series of mirrors including two pyramidal mirrors. By using an image of the inner pyramidal mirror taken by the system, the error parameters of the inner pyramidal mirror could be calibrated or adjusted. Also the influence of the plane mirrors is investigated.

This paper presents the design and the evaluation of the 6-component force/moment calibration machine which h a s t h e maximum capacities of 500 N in forces and 50 Nm in moments. This calibration machine consists of body. fixture. force generating system, moment generating system. The expanded uncertainty of the calibration machine is evaluated by calculating the A type uncertainty. $U_A$ and B type uncertainty, $U_B$. The evaluation results. this system has the expanded uncertainty of less than $2{\times}10^[-2]$ in respective force and moment components.

Information technology has enabled mass standards calibration to be performed through internet. For this, an automatic weight handler was manufactured. During the operation the images of weight operation and the system are provided via the measurement system and a web server. The measurement system consists of a balance, a weight handler, instruments for environment measurement and a PC. The weight handler automatically loads and unloads weights on and from the weighing pan. The weight handler allows 6 series weights to be operated for weight calibration of 100-50-20-20-10-10 gram series weight. This capability could be used for "remote training" for series weight calibration.
A method for calibrating a laser profiling system for seafloor micro-topography measurements is described. The system consists of a digital camera and an arrangement of six red lasers that are mounted as a unit on a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The lasers project as parallel planes onto the seafloor, creating profiles of the local topography that are interpreted from the digital camera image. The goal of the calibration was to determine the plane equations for the six lasers relative to the camera. This was accomplished in two stages. First, distortions in the digital image were corrected using an interpolation method based on a virtual pinhole camera model. Then, the laser planes were determined according to their intersections with a calibration target. The position and orientation of the target were obtained by a registration process. The selection of the target shape and size was found to be critical to a successful calibration at sea, due to the limitations in the manoeuvrability of the ROV.

In this paper, an integrated navigation system based on GPS(Global Positioning System) and Dead-Reckoning (DR) is designed. For the calibration of DR, a self-calibration method and a GPS-based calibration method are proposed. From the field-test results, it is shown that DR can be successfully calibrated by the two proposed calibration methods. Also, a cascaded filter approach and a mixed-measurement algorithm are employed for GPS/DR integration. By using the newly proposed mixed-measurement algorithm, it is shown in simulation that the position error becomes smaller than by using only DR even if the number of visible GPS satellites is less than 4.
This paper introduced the new calibration algorithm of a straight-type five-hole pressure probe necessary for calculating three-dimensional flow velocity components. The new velocity data reduction method using both a commercial two-dimensional curve-fitting program and the zone partition method of a calibration map was firstly introduced in this study. This new calibration method can be applied up to the wide flow angle of ${\pm}80^{\circ}$ despite of using a five-hole pressure probe because this data reduction method showed a comparatively good performance in calculating yaw and pitch angles from the calibration map.

It is very difficult to measure an exact thrust in liquid rocket engine compared to solid rocket motor, however it is very important to estimate a performance of engine for developing rockets. To get a good result, we have to concern about errors of measurement and find a method of calibration. In this research, we developed new thrust measurement system for liquid rocket engine.

This paper presents an accurate algorithm for geometric calibration of X-ray imaging system. Calibration is a very important process for improving an imaging system performance. There has been a lot of previous works using linear camera modeling technique, where lens distortion is neglected and/or center of distortion is assumed to be known. Geometrical distortion of image intensifier, however, is very large and its center of distortion should be calculated. This paper presents a new calibration method to estimate the intensifier position and orientation, scale factor, distortion coefficient, magnification factor, and center of distortion using the least square method. We investigate the properties of the algorithm by computer simulation. Simulation results show that the parameters can be estimated accurately using the proposed algorithm.

We propose a flexible camera calibration system for mobile platform to calibrate the camera's intrinsic parameters which based on the geometrical property of the vanishing points determined by two perpendicular groups of parallel lines. The system only requires the camera to observe a rectangle card show at a few(at least four)different orientation. The experimental results of the real images show the proposed calibration system in this paper is easy to use and robust.
