This study was performed by questionnaire to investigate the recognition, preference and intake of calcium and related food behaviors of high school and college students (males 200, females 200) in the Daegu area. The daily intake was determined by a 24-hr dietary recall method. The results were summarized as follows: The recognition score of calcium of the subjects was male 10.46, female 11.54, respectively. Also the preference score of calcium source foods of the subjects was male 3.40, female 3.51. The students preferred yoghurt, ice cream, sweet potatoes and milk, in the order, but they disliked beans boiled in soysauce, sesame seeds and cheese. The frequency of calcium source foods were remarkably low. Milk products were the most preferred and eated calcium source food. A day's calcium intake was 54.1-61.1% of RDA for Koreans. The meal skipping, diet and nutrition consideration ratio of the subjects were 66.5, 13.3, 20.0% respectively. There was a significant positive correlation between the recognition and preference scores of calcium.
The effect of Advanced Modeled Iterative Reconstruction (ADMIRE) on the coronary artery calcium (CAC) score of computed tomography was evaluated. Coronary artery calcium images (348 calcium, 6 groups, total of 2088 calcium) were acquired by 128-slice dual-source CT of 89 patients.Volume score and Agatston score were measured from images reconstructed with filtered back projection (FBP) and ADMIRE (1-5). The difference between FBP and ADMIRE Strength (1-5) was confirmed through the Kruskal-Wallis test, and the post-hoc analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney U test based on FBP. Both volume score and Agatston score showed statistically significant differences between FBP and ADMIRE (1-5) (P=0.015, P=0.0.38). As a result of post hoc analysis, the volume score decreased to 9.5% in ADMIRE 4 (Z=-2.359, P=0.018) and 13.2% in ADMIRE 5 (Z=-3.113, P=0.002) based on FBP. Agatston score decreased to 10.4% in ADMIRE 4 (Z=-2.051, P=0.040) and 14.0% in ADMIRE 5 (Z=-2.718, P=0.007) based on FBP. High ADMIRE strength affected the volume score and Agatston score due to the decrease in calcium area. In addition, the change in the Density factor due to the decrease in Maximum HU may affect the calculation of the Agatston score.
The milk product is one of the major foods which provide calcium for nutritional requirement. In addition to calcium, it supplies diverse nutrients including protein, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin $B_1$, and vitamin $B_2$. Adequate calcium intake throughout lifetime ensures optimum bone density and prevents osteoporosis in old age by reducing loss of bone mineral during growth and aging. The nutritional deficiency of calcium intake and spreading of osteoporosis in Korean population accentuated necessity of adequate calcium intake through milk consumption. Obstruction of milk consumption due to lactose intolerance should be overcome by educational programs for adequate milk consumption and low-lactose milk product developments. Consumption of milk products was reported to prevent high blood pressure in clinical studies and epidemiological investigations. As the feeding of milk increased, the body weight and fat of animal decreased in animal studies. The epidemiological investigations revealed that there was a negative correlation between the amount of milk consumption and the body fat. When calcium was provided as dietary supplement in the clinical trials, the body weight and body fat of subjects decreased. When calcium was particularly supplied as a part of milk, the body weight reduction rate was augmented. Calcium, vitamin D, and conjugated linoleic acid have been reported to exert a role in reducing cancer. The paramount importance of milk in nutrition as a source of calcium and other invaluable nutrients emphasizes consistent supply of milk products to adults as well as adolescents by dairy industry.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to revise the target pattern in food guidance system for adolescents' balanced menu planning. Methods: The food groups in the target pattern were divided into detailed food items, and intake number were assigned to each food items based on the revised standard food composition table. The validity of revised target pattern was examined. Menu planning according to the revised target pattern was made available to 305 male and female middle school students and the nutritional assessment of the menu plan were carried out using SPSS WIN 12.0. Results: The energy contents, energy contribution ratios of carbohydrate, fat, and protein, and 4 minerals' and 6 vitamins' contents of the revised target pattern were adequate. The average energy contents of the menu planned according to revised target pattern were 400~500 kcal higher than that of the revised target pattern when the revised standard food composition was applied. The energy contribution ratios of fat were 28.9%, close to maximum of acceptable macronutrient distribution range (AMDR) (30%), and that of carbohydrate were 54.5%, lower than minimum of AMDR (55%). The nutrient adequacy ratios (NARs) of calcium and vitamin C were less than 1.0. According to index of nutritional quality (INQ) of food items, kimchi, milk dairy products, and soybean curd were energy efficient source for calcium, kimchi, fruit, vegetable and seaweed were energy efficient source for vitamin C, with INQ of food items were higher or close to 2.0. Kimchi was the best energy efficient source of calcium and vitamin C. Conclusions: Revised target pattern based on the adolescent's foods intake was not good enough for balanced menu planning by adolescents, because what they ate and what they wanted to eat were very much different. Detailed guidance for food selection is necessary in each food items.
As a part of basic investigation for utilizing of cuttle bone as a calcium source, we examined on the extraction methods (calcining at $800^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs, autoclaving at $121^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs and ultrasonic treatments at $60^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs) as a pretreatment methods for preparation of calcium-based powder from cuttle bone, The color of calcined calcium-based powder from cuttle bone was white, while that treated by other methods was light yellow. The calcium content in calcined calcium-based powder was $70.5\%$, and revealed high about 2 times compared to those pretreated by other methods. And, calcium solubility in calcined calcium-based powder was improved 22 times compared to raw cuttle bone powder, Among calcining, autoclaving and ultrasonic treatments as a pretreaoent methods for preparation of calcium-based powder from cuttle bone, calcining treatment was superior to other methods on the aspect of color, calcium solubility and purity of calcium-based powder, Judging from X-ray diffraction pattern of calcined calcium-based powder, most of calcium was present as a form of calcium oxide, But, pH of calcined calcium-based powder revealed strong alkali of pH 12.9. This pH value might invoke health risk in using food resource. Therefore, for utilization effectively calcined calcium-based powder from cuttle bone, it requires a suitable treatment such as adjustment of pH to neutral condition.

To utilize the oyster shell containing a lot of calcium, we investigated the bioavailability of calcium compounds from oyster shell. First, calcium oxide was prepared by burning of oyster shell at $1200^{\circ}C$. Its purity was approximately $98.5\%$. Calcium compounds, $CaCl_2$, and $CaHPO_4$, from the calcium oxide were prepared by chemical reaction. Effect on calcium absorption by the calcium compounds from oyster shell was improved using fish skin gelatin peptides.(FSGP), which was prepared by enzymatic hydrolysis of fish skin gelatin for 4hr with tuna pyloric caeca crude enzyme (TPCCE). in vitro experiment, calcium absorption by addition of FSGP in a mixture solution of calcium and phosphate was higher approximately $70\%$ than that by control. in vivo using calcium deficient rats, a group taken the diets with $3\%$ FSGP and $CaHPO_4$ was significantly improved amount of calcium and ash in femur and strength of femur. These results suggest that calcium compounds from oyster shell and FSGP could be used as an effective dietary calcium source.

The Purpose of this study was to identify calcium intake and cognition on calcium of adolescents in Busan area. Questionnaires including dietary habit, cognition on calcium, preference of calcium rich foods and diet record were developed. The questionnaires surveyed 285 adolescents consisted of 145 6th grade students (younger adolescents group, male: 72, female: 73) and 140 11th grade students (older adolescents group male: 66 female: 74). Adolescents appeared high cognition for function of calcium and milk but low cognition for nutrients related to absorption of calcium. Younger boy adolescents among them appeared the lowest score of cognition on calcium. The most preferred calcium rich foods in adolescents were ice-cream, laver and then yogurt whereas soybean and icefish dried appeared the lowest preference. Calcium intake of adolescents was 491.5~530.5 mg, 61.4~66.3% of RDA for Koreans, in female and 554.5~636.7 mg, 69.3~70.7% of RDA for Koreans in male. 64.9% of older girl adolescents showed calcium intakes under 66.7% of RDA for Koreans and this group also appeared less frequency of exercise than other group. Calcium intake of adolescents consisted of 44.6~53.3% from animal foods and 42.4~51.4% from plant foods. The adolescents consumed milk and milk products most, then vegetables and fishes as calcium source foods. Correlation analysis indicated that calcium intake was positively related to cognition on calcium of adolescents.
Transient behavior of fouling resistance was observed with a laboratory-scaled, submerged microfiltration membrane system treating high-turbidity source water consisting of inorganic silica particles and humic acid. Fouling mitigation efficiency with inorganic silica particles caused by aeration was reduced significantly as both humic acid and calcium ion existed together. Scanning electron microscopic observations showed that humic acid was adsorbed onto the surface of inorganic silica particles in the presence of calcium. Turbidity removal was achieved almost completely by submerged MF system regardless of feed compositions. However, the $UV_{254}$ removal of humic acid was improved in the presence of both calcium and inorganic silica particles. Additionally, increasing air-flow rate tended to increase $UV_{254}$ removal efficiency higher than 80%. This may be caused by back-transport of humic acid enhanced by inorganic silica particles providing surface for organic adsorption in the presence of calcium.
The purpose of this study is to resource calcium ions contained in most industrial by-products, and confirm the characteristics of calcium ions by extraction and separation conditions. Calcium oxide was used as a calcium extraction source, and hydrochloric acid as an extraction solvent, and the extraction amount according to the concentration of the extraction solvent and the pH dependent characteristics of the extract were analyzed. As the extractant concentration increased, the extracted amount increased while the pH for the extraction was kept constant. In order to separate extracted calcium ions, an acid-basic solution was injected and the formation of precipitates and also the form of precipitates were analyzed. When the sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide solution of acid and basic substances were injected into the calcium extract, precipitates were formed and separated into CaSO4 and Ca(OH)2 forms.
