마그네슘 및 칼슘 이온이 알루미늄 응집에 의한 인 제거에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Magnesium and Calcium Ions on the Phosphorus Removal by Aluminium Coagulation)

  • 본 연구는 알루미늄 응집에 의한 인 제거 공정에 마그네슘 및 칼슘과 같은 2가의 금속이온을 첨가하였을 경우 인의 응집특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 인을 제거하기 위한 최적 알루미늄 응집 pH는 약 5~6 사이이며, 그 이상 pH에서는 TP 제거효율이 감소하였다. 마그네슘이나 칼슘과 같은 2가의 금속이온을 알루미늄 응집공정에 함께 사용할 경우 pH 6 이상 에서도 TP 및 $H_nPO_4^{n-3}$ 제거효율은 안정적으로 95% 이상을 유지하였다. 응집초기 $Al^{3+}/H_nPO_4^{n-3}$ (Al/P) 몰비가 3 이상에서 TP 제거효율이 80% 이상 높게 유지되었으며, 응집 후 잔류 TP 농도를 0.2 mg/L 이하로 제어하기 위해서는 Al/P 몰비는 약 6 이상 이었다. 마그네슘이나 칼슘 이온을 알루미늄 응집공정에 함께 사용할 경우 TP 제거를 위한 최적의 알루미늄 대비 마그네슘 및 칼슘 이온의 몰비($Al^{3+}/Mg^{2+}$ or $Ca^{2+}$)는 모두 2이었다. 알루미늄 응집공정에 마그네슘이나 칼슘 이온을 함께 사용하면, 동일한 양의 TP를 제거하기 위한 알루미늄 응집제 주입량이 감소하였고, 결과적으로 최종 슬러지 발생량도 감소하였다.

  • Calcium phosphate minerals are biologically important because of their application in the fields of orthopaedics and dentistry. Herein we have tried to synthesize calcium phosphate minerals from biowaste clam shells. A simple microwave method was used to synthesize a mixture of calcium phosphate minerals such as hydroxyapatite, tri-calcium phosphate, and monetite. The microwave induces vibration of the dipole ions in the reagent. The heating and rearrangement of ions and atoms occurs during the process. The phases obtained in the final powder were ascertained by X-ray diffraction; the morphology of each sample was checked using a scanning electron microscope. We were able to obtain a mixture of calcium phosphate minerals using the microwave method; the calcined powder showed a brick like morphology, which is different from the rod shape morphology of the hydroxyapatite obtained using the hydrothermal process.

RO/NF/ED 연계 공정에 의한 고경도 담수 제조 (The Hardness Water Production By RO/NF/ED Linking Process From Deep Seawater)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 해수담수화 과정 중 황산이온과 염소이온은 제거하고 유용미네랄인 마그네슘, 칼슘은 잔존 시키는 미네랄 수질 조정 기술로 먹는물 수질기준에 맞는 고경수 제조 공정 개발에 있다. 역삼투막(RO)에 통과시켜 농축수(Concentrated deep seawater)와 탈염수(desalted deep seawater)를 제조하고, 나노여과막(NF)를 사용하여 염화나트륨이 제거되지 않은 1차 미네랄 농축수(Mineral enriched deep seawater)를 제조하여, 전기투석 이온교환막(ED)을 가동하여 염화나트륨을 제거한 탈염 미네랄농축수(Mineral enriched desalted water)를 제조하여 이를 RO 탈염수와 희석하여 고경도 먹는해양심층수를 제조하였다. 역삼투막은 해수(해양심층수) 원수에서 용존물질과 담수를 분리할 수 있으며, 2차에 걸쳐 역삼투막을 사용하면, 용존성분 중 99.9% 이상 제거되고, 경도 1이하, 염소이온의 농도 2.3 mg/L인 용존물질이 완전히 제거된 탈염수(순수)를 제조할 수 있었다. 나노여과막 (NF 막)의 간극은 $10^{-9}$ m으로 마그네슘과 칼슘은 50%정도 통과시키며, 염소이온과 나트륨 같은 일가이온은 95%이상 통과한다. 나노여과막은 마그네슘과 칼슘과 같은 경도 성분과 나트륨과 염소이온과 같은 염분성분을 분리 농축할 수 있지만, 완벽하게 분리하지는 못한다. 전기투석막(ED)은 전기전도도에 따라 경도성분의 이가이온과 염분성분인 일가이온이 분리된다. 전기전도도 20 mS/cm 이상에서 경도성분(마그네슘이온, 칼슘 이온 등)은 제거되지 않는 반면, 염분성분 (나트륨이온, 염소이온 등)은 지속적으로 제거되었다. 따라서, 나노여과막을 이용하여 마그네슘과 칼슘과 같은 경도 성분을 농축하고, 전기투석막을 이용하여 경도농축수에서 염분성분을 분리하여 경도농도 12,600 mg/L, 염소이온 농도 2,446 mg/L의 염분성분이 배제된 고경도 농축수를 제조할 수 있었다. 이러한 고경도수를 역삼투막을 이용하여 용존물질이 모두 제거된 2차 RO 생산수로 10배 희석하면 염소이온 농도 244 mg/L 로 먹는물 수질기준에 적합하면서 경도농도 1,260 mg/L 인 고경도 수 제조도 가능하였다. RO/NF/ED 또는 NF/ED 연계공정은 해수의 증발 없이 역삼투막, 나노여과막과 전기투석막만을 이용하여 염소이온과 나트륨, 칼륨, 황산이온과 같은 염분성분을 제거하면서 마그네슘과 칼슘과 같은 경도성분은 농축할 수 있어서 먹는물 수질기준에 적합한 고경도수 제조가 가능하였으며, 이 과정 중 소모되는 에너지를 줄일 수 있었다.

ZnO-$SnO_2$계 Spinel 채료에 대한 NiO, $TiO_2$의 영향 (Influence of NiO, $TiO_2$ on ZnO-$SnO_2$ System Spinel Pigment)

  • For the purpose researching to the influence of tetrahedral and octahedral preference of cations of $Ni^{2+}$, $Ti^{4+}$ upon the formation and the color development of the $ZnO-SnO_2$ spinel containing $Ni^{2+}$ and $Ti^{4+}$ ions, the gradual substitution of $Ni^{2+}$ ions for $Zn^{2+}$ ions and of $Ti^{4+}$ ions for $Sn^{4+}$ ions of the spinel in NiO-ZnO-$SnO_2$-$TiO_2$ system was carried out. On samples prepared by calcining the oxide and basic cabonate mixtures at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours, the X-ray analysis, measurement of reflectance and the test of their stabilaity as a glaze pigment were also carried out. The results are summarized as follows 1) Single spinel was formed completely to x=1 in the $xNiO\cdot(2-x)ZnO\cdot{SnO}_2$system, and gave brilliant lightgreen hue. Moreover, $NiO\cdot{ZnO}\cdot{SnO}_2$ formed easily spinel than $NiO\cdot{MgO}\cdot{SnO}_2$ because Zn^{2+}$ ions had more strong tetrahedral preference than $Mg^{2+}$ ions. 2) As the gradual substitution of $Ti^{4+}$ ions for $Sn^{4+}$ ions in $NiO\cdot{MgO}\cdot{SnO}_2$ system, the spinels formed well and was nearly not changed in the hue. 3) The results of glaze test. (1) As the gradual substitution of $Ni^{2+}$ ions for $Zn^{2+}$ ions, the color changed from dull white to graish broun gradually in calcium-zinc glaze and calcium glaze, and from white to beige in tile glaze. (2) As the gradual substitution of $Ti^{4+}$ ions for $Sn^{4+}$ ions in $NiO-ZnO-SnO_2-TiO_2$ system, the color was become dull generally and was not change in tile glaze.

수경재배 시 다량 이온 농도 측정을 위한 이온 선택성 전극의 응용 (Application of Ion-Selective Electrodes to Measure Ionic Concentrations of Macronutrients in Hydroponics)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the applicability of PVC membrane-based ion-selective electrodes for macronutrients (K, Ca, and N) by measuring of potassium, calcium, nitrate ions in hydroponic nutrient solution. The capabilities of two ion-selective membranes with varying chemical compositions for each ion were evaluated in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, and lifetime to choose sensing elements suitable for measuring typical ranges of nutrient concentrations in hydroponic solutions. The selected calcium and nitrate ion-selective membranes showed effectively sensitive responses to calcium and nitrate ions with lifetimes of 25 and 15 days, respectively. The addition of a cation additive to the potassium membrane cocktail allowed its sensitivity to be increased whereas its lifetime was reduced from 30 days to 10 days.

Desalting of papermaking tobacco sheet extract using selective electrodialysis

  • The inorganic components in tobacco sheet extract have significant influence on the sensory taste of the cigars and the harmful component delivery in cigarette smoke. To identify the contributions of the divalent inorganic components on harmful components delivery in cigarette smoke, a self-made selective electrodialysis was assembled with monovalent ion-selective ion exchange membranes. The influences of current density and extract content on the desalination performance were investigated. Result indicates that the majorities chloride, nitrate, and sulfate ions were removed, comparing with 50-60% of potassium and only less than 10% of magnesium and calcium ions removed in the investigated current density. The permselectivity of the tested cations across the Selemion CSO cation exchange membranes follows the order: $K^+>Ca^{2+}>Mg^{2+}$. A current density of $15mA/cm^2$ is an optional choice by considering both the energy consumption and separation efficiency. When the extract contents are in the range of 7%-20%, the removal ratios the potassium ions are kept around 60%, while the removal ratios of the calcium and magnesium ions fluctuate in the range of 16-27% and 8-14%, respectively. The tobacco smoke experiments indicated that the divalent metal ions have dual roles for the harmful component delivery in cigarette smoke. The divalent potassium and calcium ions were unfavorable for the total particulate matter emission but beneficial to decrease the HCN delivery in the mainstream cigarette smoke. The selective electrodialysis is a robust technology to decrease the harmful component delivery in cigarette smoke.

식물추출액을 이용한 지반 고결제 개발 (Development of Soil Binder Using Plant Extracts)

  • 본 연구에서는 식물추출액을 이용하여 모래 입자 사이에 친환경적으로 탄산칼슘을 석출시켜 모래 고결을 유발하고자 하였다. 식물추출액에는 고결유발 미생물(예: $Sporosarcina$ $pasteurii$)과 같이 요소를 탄산이온과 암모늄이온으로 분해하는 우레아제 성분이 포함되어 있다. 분해된 탄산이온과 용액 속에 녹아 있는 칼슘이온이 결합하여 탄산칼슘을 석출시키는 원리를 이용하여 모래의 고결을 유도하였다. 깨끗한 낙동강모래에 식물추출액과 요소 그리고 칼슘원(염화칼슘 또는 수산화칼슘)을 혼합한 용액을 섞어서 비빈 다음 다짐방법으로 공시체를 제작하였다. 요소의 농도를 세 종류로 달리하였으며, 제작된 공시체를 실내($18^{\circ}C$)에서 3일 동안 양생시킨 다음 일축압축시험과 SEM 및 XRD분석을 실시하여 사질토의 고결 정도를 연구하였다. 칼슘원에 관계없이 요소의 농도가 높을수록 탄산칼슘이 더 많이 침전되어 일축압축강도는 식물추출액을 사용하지 않은 경우보다 최대 10배까지 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 염화칼슘을 사용한 공시체가 수산화칼슘을 사용한 경우보다 더 높은 강도를 나타내었다.

  • A new technique for recycling of white water was developed in order to reduce the calcium hardness in a closed OCC recycling system. Calcium ions present in the white water were precipitated as calcium carbonate by reacting with sodium carbonate, and the precipitated $CaCO_3$ was removed from the system using a flotation fractionation method, which has been commonly used in deinking process. In the flotation stage, a mixed gas of $CO_2$-air was purged into the flotation cell because the pH of $Na_2CO_3$-treated white water was reduced to neutral by $CO_2$ gas. Since $CaCO_3$ precipitate tends to stick onto fine fiber surface and then selectively removed from the white water, a proper amount of suspended solid in white water acts as an important factor for deciding the removal efficiency. By the application of $Na_2CO_3$ addition-$CO_2$ flotation to the short circulated white water, the calcium hardness was significantly reduced by 87% and more. Removal of calcium ions with fine fibers led to a drainage improvement, reduction of fresh water consumption, and enhanced efficiency of wet-end chemicals.
