칼슘 보충제가 콩단백식이를 급여한 흰쥐의 체내 칼슘 이용성에 미치는 효과 (Effect of Calcium Supplement on Bioavailability of Calcium in Rats Fed Soy Protein Diet)

  • This study is to find out how the 4 types of calcium salt such as calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, calcium lactate and calcium citrate in soy protein diet, the vegetable protein source, affect the calcium utilization in the body. To do so, calcium, phosphate and creatinine concentration and ALP activity in blood as well as the content of calcium and ash, the length, weight strength, and the calcium utilization in the bone were measured. Four groups of Sprague-Dawley male rats with the weight of around 180g were fed for 3 weeks with the experimental diet. Each group was fed with the isolated soy protein containing 14% of the diet and the above mentioned 4 types of calcium salt as the calcium source. The results are as follows; 1. There were no differences of the feed intake, weight gain, and feed efficiency among groups. 2. ALP activity in blood was sinificantly high in calcium lactate group(P<0.05), but there were no differences of concentration of calcium, phosphates, and creatinine in blood among groups. 3. The weight, calcium content, calcium ratio in ash and the strength of bone were low when calcium lactate was provided(P<0.05). 4. The content of calcium in the liver was high in calcium lactate group and calcium citrate group(P<.0.05). 5. The exceretion of feces was low in calcium lactate group(P<0.05) and the excretion of urine was also relatively low. In addition, the ratio of absorption and the retention of calcium were high(P<0.05). In summary, out of four types of calcium salt such as calcium carbontate, calcium phosphate, calcium lactate and calcium citrate when calcium lactate was provided the ALP activity in blood was high and the weight, calcium content, calcium ratio in ash and the strength of bone were low. In calcium utilization, the ratio of absorption and retention of calcium were high, however it has lower effect than 3 other calcium types in improving weight, the content of calcium and the strength of bone.

난소절제한 흰쥐에서 식이칼슘량이 골밀도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Dietary Calcium Level on Bone Mineral Density and Bone Mineral Content in Ovariectomized Female Rats)

  • This study was done to evaluate the effect of dietary calcium level (a diet which met 100% or twice the calcium level in AIN-76 diet) on preventing bone loss in ovariectomized rats. Forty Sprauge-Dawley female rats(body weight 200$\pm$5g)were divided into two groups. One group were ovariecotomized (Ovx) while the others received sham operation(Sham). Thereafter, each rat group was further divided into normal calcium diet(0.52%) and high calcium diet(1.04%) subgroups. All rats were fed on experimental diet and deionized water ad libitum for 8 weeks. The total body, spine and femur bone mineral densities and bone mineral contents were measured by Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry, Eight weeks following operation, ovariectomized rats fed a high calcium diet had a significantly higher total bone mineral content, total bone calcium content, spine bone mineral density, spine bone mineral content and femur bone mineral content than ovariectomized rats fed control calcium diet. The correlation between dietary calcium intake level and spine bone mineral density were positive, but there was no correlation between dietary calcium intake and femur bone mineral density. The findings from the present study demonstrated that bone loss due to ovarian hormonal deficiency can be partially prevented by a high calcium diet. Futhermore, these findings support the strategy of the use of a high calcium diet in the prevention of estrogen depleted bone loss(postmenopausal osteoporosis)

질소 시용수준과 관수가 사과 과실의 칼슘함량에 미치는 영향 (Effect on Nitrogen Fertilization Levels and Irrigation on Calcium Content in Apple Fruits)

  • 사과 스타크림손품종에 질소시용량을 달리하였을 때 질소 다량 시용구가 표준 시용구보다 과실의 칼슘함량이 적었다. 칼슘용액의 수관살포로 과실 칼슘함량이 증가되었고 반점성 생리장해발생이 감소되었는데 특히 질소표준구에서 칼슘함량 증가가 뚜렷하였다. 사양토에 재식된 후지품종에 대한 관수는 과실의 비대와 잎과 과실의 칼슘함량을 증가시키는 효과가 있었다.

  • The effects of orally administered ginseng ethanol extract on the calcium release from sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) calcium pool and on the calcium content in the rat heart perfused with the Langendorff apparatus. The total amount of calcium released from SR calcium pool and the total calcium content in the rat heart were significantly decreased by 43% and 26%, respectively compared with the control.

깻잎에 있어 Ca, Mg의 존재형태와 수확후의 변화 (Chemical Forms of Ca, Mg Compounds Occuring in Perilla Leaves and Their Changes after Harvest)

  • 깻잎에 있어 칼슘의 생리작용을 밝히기 위하여 조직 중의 칼슘의 존재형태에 대하여 조사하였다. 즉 조직 중의 칼슘을 물(F-I), IN 소금(F-II), 2% 초산(F-III), 그리고 5% 염산(F-IV)의 각 용매를 이용하여 차례로 추출하여 각 분획의 칼슘과 마그네슘 함량을 측정하였다. 아울러 이 중 칼슘 분획이 저장기간과 저장온도에 따라 어떻게 변동하는가를 검토 하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 엽령에 따른 칼슘의 존재형태를 분석한 결과 모든 엽령에서 F-I (28.41~39.52%)과 F-II(34.44~47.39%) 비율이 높았으며 F-IV는 15.6~21.57%로 수산칼슘으로의 존재가 많지 않았다. 마그네슘의 존재형태는 F-I과 F-II가 90% 이상을 차지하였으며 F-IV는 4%에 불과하였다. 2. 깻잎의 F-IV 칼슘비율을 시금치 및 차조기의 그것과 비교한 결과 깻잎은 16.75, 시금치는 42.4, 자소는 22.26%가 수산칼슘 형태로 존재하여 깻잎에서의 비율이 가장 낮음이 확인되었다. 마그네슘의 존재형태는 칼슘과는 다르게 시금치에서 수산과 결합한 비율이 가장 낮았으며 수용성 분획인 F-I칼슘이 90.6%를 차지하였으며 깻잎과 자소는 각각 62.89, 16.8%로 조사되었다. 3. 수확 후 7일간 5$^{\circ}C$와 2$0^{\circ}C$에서 저장하면서 비타민 C와 F-IV 칼슘의 변화추이를 분석한 결과 비타민 C는 저장 1일 째는 감소가 완만하나 4일째에 급격히 감소를 보였다. F-IV 칼슘의 경우는 저장 1일 째 완만한 증가를 보이다가 역시 4일째 급격한 증가를 보였다. 이로써 비타민 C가 감소할수록 수산칼슘의 비율이 증가한다는 사실이 입증되었다. 이러한 경향은 5$^{\circ}C$보다는 2$0^{\circ}C$에서 더욱 두드러지게 나타났다.

난소 절제 흰쥐의 골대사에 미치는 골쇄보(骨碎補)의 영향 (Effects of Rhizoma Davalliae on Bone Metabolism in Ovariectomized Rats)

  • Objectives : This study was undertaken to study the action mechanism of Rhizoma Davalliae (RD) at parameter related to regulating bone density. Methods : We measured alkaline phosphatase activity and the contents : calcium, hydroxyproline, osteocalcin, calcitonin, and parathyroid hormone after the ovariectomized rats had been treated with RD for 30 days. Results : The following changes occurred: First, the serum calcium content and the calcitonin content, which decreased in ovariectomized rats, increased with RD treatment. Second, the serum alkaline phosphatase activity, the parathyroid hormone ativity, the osteocalcin content, the urinary calcium content, and the hydroxyprolin content-which increased in ovariectomized rats-decreased with RD treatment. Conclusions : These results show that RD treatment can recover abnormal calcium metabolic process by sex hormone inequality, promoting bone formation and inhibiting bone absorption.

The Role of $Ca^{2+}$ in Retardation Effects of Benzyladenine on the Senescence of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Leaves

  • The role of Ca2+ on benzyladenine (BA)-induced senescence retardation in mature wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) primary leaves was investigated. When an extracellular calcium chelator, ethylene glycol-bis-($\beta$-aminoethylether)-N, N'-tetraacetic acid (EGTA) together with BA, was applied to senescing leaves for 4 days of dark incubation, the content of chlorophyll and soluble protein decreased rapidly. And, the content of malondialdehyde (MDA), known to be a degradation product of membrane lipids, increased compared with the BA alone control. The BA-EGTA combination also caused the stimulation of protease and RNase activity and a rapid loss of catalase activity owing to the decling of BA effects. In the case of treatment with only intracellular calcium antagonist 3, 4, 5-trimethoxybenzoic acid 8-(diethylamino) octyl ester (TMB-8) without the BA addition, the chlorophyll content at day 4 after dark incubation decreased in paralled with the increasing concentration of the antagonist. In addition, the chlorophyll content at 10-5 M calcium ionophore A23187 treatment in the absence of BA was similar to that of the BA alone treatment. These results suggest that calcium may mediate the retardation effect of BA on leaf senescence by acting as a second messenger and that the calcium input from cell organelles, as well as the calcium inflow from intercellular spaces and cell walls, may be involved in modulating cytosolic calcium levels related to BA action.

상기생이 ethanol을 장기 투여한 흰쥐의 골 대사에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Taxilli Ramulus Extract on Bone Metabolism of Ethanol Treated Rats)

  • Objectives : To investigate the effect of Taxilli Ramulus (TR) extract on bone metabolism of ethanol-treated animal model. Methods : The changes of serum calcium, calcitonin, estrogen level, a1ka1ine phosphatase activity, osteocalcin, parathyroid hormone content and urine calcium level were observed with ethanol treatment for 60 days. The results were compared with an ethanol- TR extract double treatment group. Results : We observed increment of serum osteocalcin, parathyroid hormone content, alkaline phosphatase activity and urine calcium level by chronic ethanol feed and they were recovered to near normal level with Taxilli Ramulus extract treatment. Weight gain, serum calcium level, calcitonin and estrogen content were remarkably reduced with ethanol treatment and their levels were normalized by Taxilli Ramulus extract. Conclusions : These results showed that Taxilli Ramulus extract have the ability to recover to normal in the body an abnormal calcium metabolism process due to external factors. These results suggested that Taxilli Ramulus extract have preventive effects on calcium concentration loss and osteoporosis.

COMPARATIVE STUDIES ON THE UTILIZATION OF CALCIUM BETWEEN LAYING TSAIYA DUCK AND LEGHORN HEN

  • Studies were conducted to compare the utilization of dietary calcium between brown laying Tsaiya duck and Leghorn hen. Birds were fed corn-soybean diets containing 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0% calcium, respectively, with five birds per treatment. The metabolizability of calcium was determined by the indicator method. Experiments were conducted three times each at the age of 27, 31 and 36 weeks. Results appeared that duck eggs were heavier with better shell quality in comparison with hen eggs. Ducks fed 1% calcium diet resulted in severely depressed egg production (19%), but not for hens which still had 56% egg production. The metabolizability of calcium for hens was significantly higher than that for ducks (P<0.05) when both were fed diets containing 1 or 2% calcium. As the dietary calcium level was increased to 3 to 5%, there was no significant difference in calcium metabolizability between ducks and hens. When the dietary calcium was between 2 to 5%, the ducks retained more calcium than did the hens. Plasma calcium content for both hens and ducks fed 1% calcium diet was about the same. When the amount of the dietary calcium was increased to 2-5%, the plasma calcium level of ducks was approximately 7-10 mg/dl higher than that of hens. The calcium content in the egg shell of duck was significantly higher than that of hens, too. As the dietary calcium level was increased, there was a decreased magnesium content in the eggshell of hens, but not for ducks. The magnesium level in the eggshell was higher in hens than that in ducks. It is concluded that ducks could retain significantly more calcium and maintain higher plasma calcium level which might be the reason for larger eggs with better shell quality by ducks.

배 장십랑품종의 저장 전 $CaCl_2$처리에 따른 과실 칼슘함량과 과실특성의 변화 (Effect of Postharvest Calcium Solution Dipping and Vacuum Infiltration on Calcium Content and Quality of Chojuro Pear Fruit)

  • 장십랑 배를 수확한 후에 $CaCl_2$에 침지 또는 감압침지하므로 과실의 칼슘함량이 증가되었다. 특히 과피와 과피직하 과육의 칼슘증가량이 많았다. 단순침지의 경우 $CaCl_2$의 농도가 2%에서 8%까지 높아질수록 과실의 칼슘함량이 증가되어 효과적이었고, 감압침지의 경우 200-600mmHg의 감압범위에서는 차이가 없었으며, 단순 침지와 감압침지 간에도 차이를 인정할 수 없었다. 처리 4주 후의 과실경도의 저하는 $CaCl_2$ 처리로 칼슘함량이 증가된 과실에서 둔화되었다.
