In oxy-fuel combustion, $CO_2$ concentration in the flue gas may be enriched up to 95% owing to the gas recirculation. Under the high $CO_2$ concentration, the calcination characteristic of limestone is different from that of the conventional air combustion system. In this study, three types of limestone taken from different regions in Korea were used as $SO_2$ absorbent and their calcination characteristics depending on calcination temperature were investigated. The experiments were performed to examine the effects of operating variables such as absorbent species, reaction temperatures on the $SO_2$ removal efficiency and reacted limestone particles were captured to examine the sulfur contents. The degree of calcination and the specific surface area increased with calcination temperature and $SO_2$ removal efficiency increased with reaction temperature. The results showed remarkable difference in $SO_2$ removal efficiencies between the limestone types. The sulfur content of the reacted limestone with the highest $SO_2$ removal efficiency was about 10%.

This study discussed the pozzolanic properties of calcined sewage sludge (CSS) according to calcination and fineness conditions. The chemical and mineralogical analysis of CSS according to calcination temperature and time were carried out and compared with that of the existing pozzolanic materials such as fly-ash, blast furnance slag and meta-kaolin. Various mortars were made by mixing those CSS and $Ca(OH)_2$ (1:1 wt. %), and their compressive strength and hydrates according to experimental factors such as fineness of CSS and curing age were also investigated in detail. The results show clearly the potentiality of calcined sewage sludge (CSS) as an admixture materials in concrete, but the CSS should be controlled by calcination temperature and time, and fineness etc. In this experimental condition, the calcination temperature of $800^{\circ}C$, calcination time of 2 hours and fineness of $5,000cm^2/g$ were optimum conditions in consideration of the mechanical properties and economic efficiency of CSS. The compressive strength of CSS mortars was higher than that of fly-ash mortars and blast furnace slag mortars, especially at the early ages. Then, the utilization of CSS in construction fields was greatly expected.

In order to investigate the behavior of limestones which have been usually used for in-situ desulfurization reaction in circulating fluidized bed combustors, the attrition characteristics and calcination reactions of domestic limestones were analyzed in this study by using a thermogravimetric analyzer and an ASTM D5757-95 attrition tester. The average size distribution of limestones in circulating fluidized bed boilers have to be changed due to the attrition of particle-particle and particle-reactor wall and the calcination reaction. Domestic limestones might be used in commercial circulating fluidized bed boilers, but the attrition behaviors and particle size changes of limestones were varied. In calcination experiments at $850^{\circ}C$, the calcination reaction were varied with limestone samples. The calcination reaction time increased with an increase of particle size. Also, fine particles generated the attrition test of calcined limestone was 20% higher than those generated the attrition test of original limestone.
Characteristics of wet flue gas desulfurization and in-furnace desulfurization of domestic and overseas limestone with different crystallinity and crystalline size are studied in this article. Properties of desulfurization were evaluated in relation to physicochemical/ mineralogical characteristics, degree of pore formation for different calcination temperatures and TNC(total neutralizing capability). TNC of domestic high crystalline limestone was lower than that of overseas one. On the other hand, the porosity after calcination was shown to be relatively high for domestic limestone, which had high initial rates of desulfurization reactions in-furnace. Based on low pore formation and porosity with high TNC of crystalline high-Ca limestones compared to macrocrystalline ones, the former are preferred for wet desulfurization processes.
The effect of calcination treatment of raw powders prior to high temperature synthesis of Ca-${\alpha}$-SiAlON:$Eu^{2+}$ phosphor was investigated. Based on data acquired from thermogravimetric analysis, calcination temperatures were set at 600, 750, and $900^{\circ}C$. Compared to the photoluminescence (PL) intensity of direct synthesis without calcination, a similar intensity was found for the $600^{\circ}C$ treatment, a 19% increased PL intensity was found for the $750^{\circ}C$ treatment, and a 23% decreased PL intensity was found for the $900^{\circ}C$ treatment. Observation of the particle morphology of the synthesized phosphors revealed that the material transport promoted through the agglomerates formed by the $750^{\circ}C$ treatment led to enhanced PL intensity. On the other hand, the oxidation of the starting AlN particles during the $900^{\circ}C$ treatment resulted in decreased photoluminescence.
[ $CO_3O_4/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ ] catalysts were reported high activity on the low temperature CO oxidation. The effects of the calcination temperature, the loaded amount of cobalt and the oxygen concentration on the characteristics of CO oxidation have been investigated for a emergency escape mask cartridge. $Co(NO_3)_2\cdot6H_2O$ was used as cobalt precursor and the catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation. TGA shows that enough calcination is accomplished at $450^{\circ}C$ and cobalt phase is $Co_3O_4$ after calcination in the temperature range of $300\ ~500^{\circ}C$. The specific surface area and pore volume of catalysts are decreased with increasing of loaded amount of cobalt. And with the increase of loaded amount of cobalt and the oxygen concentration, the catalytic activity is increased.
The gas response characteristic toward C2H5OH has been demonstrated in terms of copper-vacancy concentration, hole density, and microstructural factors for undoped/Li(I)-doped CuO thin films prepared by sol-gel method. For the films, both concentrations of intrinsic copper vacancies and electronic holes decrease with increasing calcination temperature from 400 to 500 to 600 ℃. Li(I) doping into CuO leads to the reduction of copper-vacancy concentration and the enhancement of hole density. The increase of calcination temperature or Li(I) doping concentration in the film increases both optical band gap energy and Cu2p binding energy, which are characterized by UV-vis-NIR and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. The overall hole density of the film is determined by the offset effect of intrinsic and extrinsic hole densities, which depend on the calcination temperature and the Li(I) doping amount, respectively. The apparent resistance of the film is determined by the concentration of the structural defects such as copper vacancies, Li(I) dopants, and grain boundaries, as well as by the hole density. As a result, it is found that the gas response value of the film sensor is directly proportional to the apparent sensor resistance.

Electrospun $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers were produced for the air electrode in Zn-air rechargeable batteries using electrospinning technique with sequential calcination. The final calcination temperature was varied from 500 to $800^{\circ}C$ in order to determine its effect on the physical and electrochemical properties of the prepared $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers. The surface area of the electrospun $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers were observed to decrease with increasing final calcination temperature. Electrospun $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers calcined with final calcination temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ had the best electrocatalytic activity among the prepared perovskite nanofibers.
