  • When the inverter driven Induction motor is compared with sinusoidal voltage driving, the loss is increased and efficiency in the same output is decreased by the time harmonics in inverter output. These are based on the eddy current on stator and the skin effects of rotor bar current induced from time harmonic. The aim of this paper is to estimate the equivalent circuit parameter of squirrel cage induction motor fed from inverter considering this effects.

  • This paper presents a developed squirrel cage induction motor for axial flow In. Nearly all of the induction motors for fan consists of two parts, rotor and stator, and the position of rotor is located inside of stator. This construction restricts the air flow rate, otherwise requires bending duct. But developed squirrel cage induction motor for axial flow fan exchanged the position each other. So, we can reduce the weight and size about 30%, and there are no bending duct to locate the fan motor.

  • The single phase induction motor has been commonly applied to small-sized electrical appliances because of its low cost, but it has low efficiency and large torque ripple, and it is incapable of speed control. However, two-phase induction motors have small torque ripple, high efficiency and variable speed control, because they are inverter fed. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of the two-phase induction motor, such as the torque ripple, current and speed, are analyzed by using the time-stepping finite element method, and compared with the cage-type single phase induction motor.

  • This paper proposes the control algorithm for maximum efficiency drive of PWM inverter - induction motor system with high dynamic performance. If the induction motor is driven under light load with rated magnetizing current, the Iron loss is excessively large compared with the codder loss which results in doer motor efficiency. Maximum efficiency drive of an induction motor can be achieved by controlling the magnetizing current to satisfy the optimal ratio that leads the total motor loss to be a minimum value at a given speed. The proposed control algorithm essentially uses vector control technique and adopts voltage decoupling control strategy to prevent the degradation of dynamic performance due to reduced magnetizing current. To verify the proposed method, digital simulations and experiments are carried out for a squirrel-cage induction motor with the rating of 2.2[kW].

  • Squirrel cage induction motor is the main driving system of industrial field and familiar with its use in a large variety of applications. The structure and operating characteristics of induction generator is almost identical to induction motor, but the induction generator part is used restrictively from hydropower power and wind power development etc. Recently induction generator is commonly used for micro & small hydro power applications due to its simplicity, reliability, low cost and robustness. Input and output of induction motor has turned against at the induction generator operation. Rotation speed of induction generator is small faster than synchronous speed of induction motor. As output of induction machines increases with the increasement of speed, so loss is same. Actually, generator efficiency is lower than motor at this condition. If induction generator is connected with mechanical load such as increaser, total efficiency is decreased. Consequently the quality in compliance with an induction motor parameter applying like that in the generator is a possibility of having the error of some. In this paper, we analyzed that input, output, torque and efficiency of induction machine is different from each other above and below synchronous speed.

  • This research investigates the electromechanical characteristics of a sing1e-phase squirrel cage induction motor due to broken rotor bars and rotor eccentricity. Numerical analysis is performed by solving the nonlinear time-stepping finite element equation coupled with the magnetic field equation, circuit equation and mechanical equation of motion. It shows that the asymmetry of magnetic flux due to the broken rotor bars and rotor eccentricity introduce a change in the stator current, torque, speed, magnetic force and vibration of a rotor at the same time. However, even in the existence of rotor eccentricity, 3 broken rotor bar introduces a dominant change in the magnetic force and rotor displacement, i.e., beating phenomenon in time domain and sideband frequencies in frequency spectra, respectively.

  • The single Phase induction motor is used to small size electronic appliance by production cost of a low-cost. But, it is low efficiency large torque ripple and impossible speed control. However we can change the speed if it similar to the three phase induction motor. And we studied about the two phase induction motor that torque ripple is smaller. So, in this paper the dynamic characteristics of the two phase induction motor are described and compared with the cage-type single phase induction motor to find the characteristics of the torque ripple and current, speed through the time-stepped finite element method.

  • This paper describes the effects of air gap eccentricity in induction machines. Asymmetric electro-magnetic force caused by the frictional worn bearing, rotor misalignment and unbalanced rotor etc. generates an asymmetrical operation, vibration and electro-magnetic noise. In this paper, we focus on investigating the asymmetrical operation considering of unbalanced magnetic force in squirrel-cage induction motor with 380 [V], 7.5 [kW], 4P, 1,768 [rpm]. The effects of the rotor eccentricity, magnetic force are investigated by finite element method (FEM) and experiment. The results can be useful for on-line monitoring of an induction motor.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the effects of non-uniform slots in a line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motor. For purposes of the investigation, the simple formula of $2^{nd}$resistance for rotors having different slot areas is deduced. The characteristic analysis using the formula is performed and compared with measurement results.
