Silicon carbide(SiC) films were grown on modified Si(111) surface with a SiNx in the NH$_3$surrounding. Thickness of SiC films was decreased with increasing of the nitridation time. Also, voids having crystal defects were removed at interface of SiC/Si according to growth parameters. SiC films were grown on SiNx/Si substrate of 100, 300 and 500nm thickness. SiC films were deposited along [111] direction and columnar grains of SiC crystal. The void-free film was observed in the interface of SiC/SiNx. This result suggests that fabrication of SiC devices are applied to SiNx replacing silicon oxide in SOI structure.

This paper describes the electrical characteristics of polycrystalline (poly) 3C-SiC thin film diodes, in which poly 3C-SiC thin films on n-type and p-type Si wafers, respectively, were deposited by APCVD using HMDS, Hz, and Ar gas at $1180^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr. The schottky diode with Au/poly 3C-SiC/Si(n-type) structure was fabricated. Its threshold voltage ($V_d$), breakdown voltage, thickness of depletion layer, and doping concentration ($N_D$) values were measured as 0.84 V, over 140 V, 61nm, and $2.7\;{\times}\;10^{19}\;cm^3$, respectively. The p-n junction diodes fabricated on the poly 3C-SiC/Si(p-type) were obtained like characteristics of single 3C-SiC p-n junction diodes. Therefore, poly 3C-SiC thin film diodes will be suitable microsensors in conjunction with Si fabrication technology.
This paper proposes a fourth generation index $C_{psk}$, constructed from $C_{psk}$, by introducing the factor|$\mu$-T| in the numerator as an extra penalty for the departure of the process mean from the preassigned target value T. The motivation behind the introduction of $C_{psk}$ is that when $T\neqM$ process shifts away from target are evaluated without respect to direction. All indices that are now in use assume normally distributed data, and any use of the indices on non-normal data results in inaccurate capability measurements. In this paper, a new process capability index $C_{psk}$ is introduced for non-normal process. The Pearson curve and the Johnson curve are selected for capability index calculation and data modeling the normal-based index $C_{psk}$ is used as the model for non-normal process. A significant result of this research find that the ranking of the six indices, $C_{p}$, $C_{pk}$, $C_{pm}$, ${C^*}_{psk}$, $C_{pmk}$, $C_{psk}$in terms of sensitivity to departure of the process median from the target value from the most sensitive one up to the least sensitive are $C_{psk}$, $C_{pmk}$, ${C^*}_{psk}$,$C_{pm}$, $C_{pk}$, $C_{p}$.
This experiment was carried out to determine the optimum freezing and thawing rates of the hamster embryos. The female hamsters were induced to superovulate by intraperitoneal injections of 30 i.u. PMSG and mated with males of the same strain of 4 days the PMSG injection. They were killed and embryos were flushed from the oviduct and uterine horn on 3 days after mating. Embryos were flushed with a modified Dulbecco's phosphate-buffered saline and equilibrated with 1.5 M-dimethylsulphoxide by a 3-step procedure. The freezing rates of the samples were $1^{\circ}C/min$ from room temperature to $-6^{\circ}C$ and the samples were seeded at $-6^{\circ}C$. After being held for 3 min at the seeding temperature, the rates were $0.3^{\circ}C/min$ from $-6^{\circ}C$ to $-35^{\circ}C$. From $-35^{\circ}C$ to $-70^{\circ}C$, the rates were divided into $0.1^{\circ}C/min$, $1^{\circ}C/min$ and $10^{\circ}C/min$, respectively. At $-70^{\circ}C$ the samples were plunged directly into liquid nitrogen. The samples were thawed at $4^{\circ}C/min$ and $12^{\circ}C/min$ from $-196^{\circ}C$ to $37^{\circ}C$, and for 2 min in $37^{\circ}C$ water bath, respectively. The average numbers of ovulation points and embryos recovered were 35.1 and 27.0 appearing 77.0% recovery rates. Eight cell embryos in the embryos recovered were 24.8. The survival rates of embryos according to the freezing rates were 55.5~67.7% at $0.1^{\circ}C/min$, 58.8~64.9% at $1^{\circ}C/min$ and 40.5~44.7% at $10^{\circ}C/min$, respectively. The survival rates at $10^{\circ}C/min$ were significantly low. The survival rates of embryos according to the thawing rates were 53.5% at $4^{\circ}C/min$, 53.7% at $12^{\circ}C/min$ and 59.1% in $37^{\circ}C$ water bath. The survival rates, in $37^{\circ}C$ water bath were slightly higher, but we did not find any differences among them. In conclusion, the best freezing rates of hamster embryos were $1^{\circ}C/min$ from the room temperature to $-6^{\circ}C/min$, $0.3^{\circ}C/min$ from $-6^{\circ}C/min$ to $-35^{\circ}C$ and $-0.1^{\circ}C/min$ or $1^{\circ}C/min$ from $-35^{\circ}C$ to $-70^{\circ}C$. The hamster embryos thawed for 2 min in $37^{\circ}C$ water bath showed the best survival rates.
High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was applied to the analysis of triglycerides of rice bran oil. The triglycerides were clearly separated in five peaks by HPLC on a column packed with ${\mu}-Bondapack$ C18 using methanol-chloroform mixture as a solvent. Compositions of the triglyceride and fatty acid of the fraction was also analyzed by gas liquid chromatography (GLC). Each of these collected fractions gave three to four peaks in the GLC chromatograms according to the carbon number of the triglyceride. The fitty acid compositions of these triglycerides were mainly composed of C16:0, C18:1 and C18:2 fatty acids. The major triglycerides of the rice bran oil were found to be those of (C16:0, C18:1, C18:2;16.64%), $(2{\times}C18:1,\;C18:2;16.18%)$, $(3{\times}C18:1;13.7%)$, $(C16:0,\;2{\times}C18:1;12.77%)$,$(C18:1,\;2{\times}C18:2;9.16%)$ and $(C16:0,\;2{\times}C18:2;6.42%)$
Thirty three entomopathogenic species belonging to twelve genus were collected throughout 16 collecting sites from 1990 to 1996. Among those collected species, 14 unrecorded species such as Cordyceps bifusispora, C. martialis, C. oxycephala, C. paludosa, C. pentatomi, C. rosea, C. ryogamiensis, Shimizuomyces paradoxa, Akanthomyces aculeatus, Polycephalomyces ramosus, Tilachlidiopsis nigra were added to Korean entomopathogenic species through this study. In nature, occurrence of Cordyceps nutans, C. sphecocephala and Paecilomyces tenuipes were from early June to late September. On the other hand, C. militaris, C. kyushuensis and C. pruinosa were mainly found from mid July to mid August when relative humidity are increased. Nine species of the genus Cordyceps including C. bifusispora and four deuteromycetous species were isolated. As a result of cultural test using six Cordyceps species, anamorph of C. militaris, C. kyushuensis were proved as Verticillium sp. C. pruinosa as Acremonium sp., C. sphecocephala as Hymenostilbe sp. and C. scarabaeicola as Beauveria sp., respectively.

In this study, the effect of the C/SiC composition ratio on the impact damage of a reaction sintered SiC (RS-SiC) plates was evaluated. An impact test was conducted by using an air gun. The impacter used was a steel ball with a diameter of 2 mm, and the impact velocities were 113, 122, and 180 m/s. The RS-SiC plates were $20\times20\times3$ mm with different C/SiC composition ratios. The ring crack diameters damaged by a steel ball were determined using SEM images. It was observed that the maximum diameter increased with increasing impact velocity, and it rapidly changed with increasing C/SiC composition ratio because of the effect of residual Si and the variation flexural strength. Cone cracks were formed in the case of C/SiC composition ratios of 0.4~0.5, this indicated that the impact damage changed from a ring crack to a cone crack in this critical range of C/SiC composition ratios. The C/SiC composition ratio of 0.3 was determined to be the optimal ratio for the RS-SiC manufacturing process.
The periods of germination and seedling emergence, epidermal cell size and the activities of peroxidase and amylase of 6 rice cultivars were examined to clarify the response to 3 temperature conditions, constant temperatures of 27$^{\circ}C$ and 17$^{\circ}C$ and alternating temperature of 24/1$0^{\circ}C$, in the dark condition. The periods of germination and seedling emergence were increased and the germination was delayed greater than the seedling emergence under 17$^{\circ}C$ and 24/l$0^{\circ}C$, compared with 27$^{\circ}C$. Lengths of epidermal cell of coleoptile and first leaf were reduced, but the widths were increased in the 17$^{\circ}C$ and 24/1$0^{\circ}C$, compared with 27$^{\circ}C$. The activities of peroxidase in the emerging shoots and amylase in the germinating seeds were reduced in 17$^{\circ}C$ and 24/1$0^{\circ}C$. There were significant correlations between peroxidase activities and the widths of epidemal cell of first leaf and between amylase activities and periods of germination. Varietal differences of all observations were remarkable in 17$^{\circ}C$ and 24 /1$0^{\circ}C$.

Serum complement proteins comprise an important system that is responsible for several innate and adaptive immune defence mechanisms. There were three well described pathways known to lead to the generation of a C3 convertase, which catalyses the proteolysis of complement component C3, and leads to the formation of C3 opsonins (C3b, iC3b and C3d) that fix to bacteria. A pivotal step in the complement pathway is the assembly of a C3 convertase, which digests the C3 complement component to form microbial-binding C3 fragments recognized by leukocytes. The spleen clears microorganisms from the blood. Individuals lacking this organ are more susceptible to Streptococcus pneumoniae. Innate resistance to S. pneumoniae has previously been shown to involve complement components C3 and C4, however this resistance has only a partial requirement for mediators of these three pathways, such as immunoglobulin, factor B and mannose-binding lectin. Therefore it was likely that spleen and complement system provide resistance against blood-borne S. pneumoniae infection through unknown mechanism. To better understand the mechanisms involved, we studied Specific intracellular adhesion molecule-grabbing nonintegrin (SIGN)-R1. SIGN-R1, is a C-type lectin that is expressed at high levels by spleen marginal-zone macrophages and lymph-node macrophages. SIGN-R1 has previously been shown to be the main receptor for bacterial dextrans, as well as for the capsular pneumococcal polysaccharide (CPS) of S. pneumoniae. We examined the specific role of this receptor in the activation of complement. Using a monoclonal antibody that selectively downregulates SIGN-R1 expression in vivo, we show that in response to S. pneumoniae or CPS, SIGN-R1 mediates the immediate proteolysis of C3 and fixation of C3 opsonins to S. pneumoniae or to marginal-zone macrophages that had taken up CPS. These data indicate that SIGN-R1 is largely responsible for the rapid C3 convertase formation induced by S. pneumoniae in the spleen of mice. Also, we found that SIGN-R1 directly binds C1q and that C3 fixation by SIGN-R1 requires C1q and C4 but not factor B or immunoglobulin. Traditionally C3 convertase can be formed by the classical C1q- and immunoglobulin-dependent pathway, the alternative factor-B-dependent pathway and the soluble mannose-binding lectin pathway. Furthermore Conditional SIGN-R1 knockout mice developed deficits in C3 catabolism when given S. pneumoniae or its capsular polysaccharide intravenously. There were marked reductions in proteolysis of serum C3, deposition of C3 on organisms within SIGN-$R1^+$ spleen macrophages, and formation of C3 ligands. The transmembrane lectin SIGN-R1 therefore contributes to innate resistance by an unusual C3 activation pathway. We propose that in the SIGN-R1 mediated complement activation pathway, after binding to polysaccharide, SIGN-R1 captures C1q. SIGN-R1 can then, in association with several other complement proteins including C4, lead to the formation of a C3 convertase and fixation of C3. Therefore, this new pathway for C3 fixation by SIGN-R1, which is unusual as it is a classical C1q-dependent pathway that does not require immuno globulin, contributes to innate immune resistance to certain encapsulated microorganisms.
$Ti_3AlC_2$was synthesized from TiCx and Al powder as a starting materials at the temperature range between$800^{circ}C;and;1500^{\circ}C$. The vacuum sintering and hot pressing methods were imployed to synthesize$Ti_3AlC_2$. The high purity$Ti_3AlC_2$was synthesized using TiCx and Al powder as starting materials without formation of Ti-Al intermetallic compound and Al-C compound.$Ti_2$AlC and$Ti_3AlC_2$were preferentially synthesized at$800^{\circ}C$and above$1200^{\circ}C$, respectively.$Ti_2$AlC formed at low temperature was transformed to$Ti_3AlC_2$by further reaction with TiC. In this study, the synthesis mechanism for$Ti_3AlC_2$was proposed. The synthesized$Ti_3AlC_2$showed the nano laminating structure consisting of$Ti_3AlC_2$crystal with the thickness of 45~120 nm.
