In this paper we show the performance of neural Chandrasekhar filtering which is a special case for the new method of neural filtering using the artificial neural network systems developed recently for the filtering problems of linear and nonlinear, stationary and nonstationary stochastic signals. The neurofilter developed has either the finite impulse response(FIR) structure or the infinite impulse response(IIR) structure. The neurofilter differs from the conventional linear digital FIR and IIR filters because the artificial neural network system used in the neurofilter has nonlinear structure due to the sigmoid function. Numerical studies for the estimation of a second order Butterworth process are performed by changing the structures of the neurofilter in order to evaluate the performance indices under the changes of the output noises or disturbances. In the numerical studies both Chandrasekhar filtering estimates and true signals are used as the training signals for the neurofilter. The results obtained from the studies verified the capabilities which are essentially necessary for on-line filtering of various stochastic signals.
In this paper, two pre-filtering techniques are presented for accurately estimating the impact location of a loose part. The reason why a pre-filterng technique Is necessary in a Loose Part Monitoring System is that the effects of background noise on the signal to noise ratio (SNR) can be reduced considerably resulting in improved estimation accuracy. The first method is to take d moving average operation in the time domain. The second one is to adopt band-pass filters designed in the frequency domain such as a Butterworth filter, Chebyshev filter I & II and an Elliptic Filter. To show the effectiveness, the impact test data (signals) from the YGN3 power plant are first preprocessed and then used to estimate the loose pan impact position. Resultantly. we observed that SNR is much improved and the average estimation error is below 7.5%.
Damage detection methodologies based on the direct examination of the nonlinear-nonstationary characteristics of the structure dynamic response may play an important role in online structural health monitoring applications. Different signal processing based damage detection methodologies have been proposed based on the uncovering of spikes in the high frequency component of the structural response obtained via Discrete Wavelet transforms, Hilbert-Huang transforms or high pass filtering. The performance of these approaches in systems subjected to different types of excitation is evaluated in this paper. It is found that in the case of random excitations, like earthquake accelerations, the effectiveness of such methodologies is limited. An alternative damage detection approach using the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) is also evaluated to overcome this limitation. Using the CWT has the advantage that the central frequencies at which it operates can be defined by the user while the frequency bands of the detail functions obtained via DWT are predetermined by the sampling period of the signal.
In this paper, a low-csst ECG system using a digital filter was implemented. After amplifying the analog ECG signal, it is converted into a digital signal and filtered. The developed ECG module is miniaturized by removing the analog filter element that occupies the existing volume and replacing it with a digital filter using a 3-stage Butterworth filter which is one of IIR filters. It uses a serial monitoring program with C# to check and save the ECG waveform measured on a computer screen. The ECG system using a developed digital filter in this paper uses a low-cost processor instead of an expensive, high-end processor, and its size and price are reduced by converting the analog filter to a digital filter. In addition, since the waveform of the developed ECG system is similar to the actual ECG waveform of MIT-BIU, it is considered that the existing analog filter can be replaced with the developed digital filter.

Piezoceramic filters were fabricated by adding $MnO_2 and FeZ0_3$ to the $0.05Pb(Al_{2/3}W_{1/3})O_3-0.95Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti0.48)O_3$ system using photolithography method. As the amounts of $MnO_2$ increased, the electro-mechanical coupling factor(Kp) decresed. On the other hand, for $Fe_2O_3$ added samples, Kp was 57%, but mechanical quality factor(Qm) showed relatively low value. The passband widths were 155kHz for 0.3wt % $MnO_2$ addition and 260kHz for 0.1 wt % $Fe_2O_3$ addition, and were inversely propotional to Qm values. Group delay time characteristics showed Gausian for $MnO_2$ additions and Butterworth for$Fe_2O_3$ additions.

This study presents the development of an acid resistance velocity sensor that is used for measuring velocity inside a copper sulfate plating bath. First, researchers investigated the acid resistance coating to confirm the suitability of the anti-acid sensor in a very corrosive environment. Then, researchers applied signal processing methods to reduce noise and amplify the signal. Next, researchers applied a pressure-resistive sensor with an operation amplifier (Op Amp) and low-pass filter with high impedance to match the output voltage of a commercial flowmeter. Lastly, this study compared three low-pass filters (Bessel, Butterworth and Chebyshev) to select the appropriate signal process circuit. The results show 0.0128, 0.0023, and 5.06% of the mean square error, respectively. The Butterworth filter yielded more precise results when compared to a commercial flowmeter. The acid resistive sensor is capable of measuring velocities ranging from 2 to 6 m/s with a 2.7% margin of error.

In this study, we intended to design the optimal Fermi filter to apply the k-space date that is knee image of the rheumatoid arthritis patient acquired from the MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) instrument. After deciding the suitable coefficient for the Fermi filter, the results were compared with modified Fermi filter and inverse Chebyshev filter, Chebyshev filter, Elliptic filter and Butterworth filter. Firstly, in comparison to the results, the radiologist confirmed that modified Fermi filter was best decision for boundary of the rheumatoid arthritis images. The number of the black voxels of the histogram showed the quantity of the results. At the proposed filter images, numbers of the blacks voxels were statistically decreased. That meant voxels only appeared the black color were changed to others voxels color. Because the number of the total voxels was fixed, the area appeared block color could be effected to the other areas. If the modified Fermi filter were used for rheumatoid arthritis patient, the result will be better than other filters.

This paper presents the performance and the algorithm of a 1/3-octave band spectrum control system. The system is developed to provide various spectrums in a high intensity acoustic chamber. The required spectrum, which usually comes from launch vehicle company, starts from 25Hz band and ends 10kHz band. Automatic spectrum control system is preferred since the system requires short settling time to guarantee the safety of test objects and to reduce the amount of operating gas. The developed system adapted a PCI data-acquisition/signal-generation board installed in a personal computer to implement whole control logic. The control software used three cascade digital Butterworth filters using software. The filers are designed following ANSI S1.11 standard to implement 1/3 octave band filter bank. The graphical user interface of the system guides the user to follow standard operation procedure. The averaged control spectrum showed less than 0.05 dB in every running 1/3-octave band.

An active-RC channel selection filter (CSF) with the bandwidth of 40MHz and the improved linearity is proposed in this paper. The proposed CSF is the fifth butterworth filter which consists of a first order low pass filter, two second order low pass filters of a biquad architecture, and DC feedback circuit for cancellation of DC offset. To improve the linearity of the CSF, a body node of a MOSFET for a switch is connected to its source node. The bandwidth of the designed CSF is selected to be 10MHz, 20MHz and 40MHz and its voltage gain is controlled by 6 dB from 0 dB to 24 dB. The proposed CSF is designed by using 40nm 1-poly 8-metal CMOS process with a 1.2V. When the designed CSF operates at the bandwidth of 40 MHz and voltage gain of 0 dB, the simulation results of OIP3, in-band ripple, and IRN are 31.33dBm, 1.046dB, and 39.81nV/sqrt(Hz), respectively. The power consumption and layout area are $450{\times}210{\mu}m^2$ and 6.71mW.
Tc-99m-MIBI (Sestamibi) myocardial SPECT along with TI-201 tomographic Imaging has demonstrated wide application and high image quality sufficient for the diagnosis of myocardial perfusion defect, which consequently reflects regional myocardial blood flow. The qualitative values of myocardial SPECT with Tc-99m-MIBI as well ds the quantitative cases depend in some degree on the reconstruction techniques of multiple projections. Filtered backprojection (FBP) Is the common standard method for reconstruction rather than the complicated and time-consuming arithmetic methods. In FBP it is known that the distribution of radioactivity in reconstructed transverse slices varies with the selected litter parameters such as cutoff frequencies and order (Butterworth case) The cutoff frequencies used in clinicAl practice partially remove and decrease the true radioactive distribution and alter the pixel counts, which lead to underestimation of true counts in specific myocardial regions. In this study, we have investigated the effect of cutoff frequencies of reconstruction filter on the artifactually induced perfusion defects, which are often demonstrated near inferior and/or inferoseptal cardiac walls due to the intense hepatic uptake of Tc-99m-MIBI. A computerized method for Identifying the relative degree of artifactual perfusion defect and for comparing those degrees along with the relative amount of hepatic uptake to myocardium was developed and patient images were studied to observe the quantitative degree of underestimation of myocardial perfusion, and to propose some reasonable threshold of cutoff frequency in the diagnosis of perfusion defect quantitatively. We concluded that from the quantitative viewpoint cutoff frequencies may be used as high as possible with the sacrifice of homogeneity of image quality, and those frequencies lower than the common 0.3 Wyquist frequency would reveal severe degradation of radioactive distribution near inferior and/or inferoseptal myocardium when applying Butterworth or low pass filter.
