  • As the number ofconnected cars grows, the security of the connected cars is becoming more important. There are also increasing warnings about the threat of attacks via the CAN bus used for in-vehicle networks. An attack can attack through a vulnerability in the CAN bus because the attacker can access the CAN bus remotely, or directly to the vehicle, without a security certificate on the vehicle, and send a malicious error message to the devices connected to the CAN bus. A large number of error messages put the devices into a 'Bus-Off' state, causing the device to stop functioning. There is a way to detect the error frame, or to manage the power of the devices related to the bus, but eventually the new standard for the CAN bus will be the fundamental solution to the problem. If new standards are adopted in the future, they will need to be studied.

  • This Study estimates the actual night traffic using the smart card data used by most of the public transportation users, and compares it with the current night bus routes by KT Telecom based on the night time call volume. In order to compare the current night bus and night trips evaluated by smart card data, we presented indicators related to the degree of matching, and estimated the volume of service currently provided. The unique approach of the study is that we chose subway station instead of bus stop for the unit of the study. Bus stops has their complexity in a way that stops with same name could belong to different administrative area depending on its direction. For this reason, we decided to use subway station and defined its adjacent administrative district as the scope of influence. Since night bus is the primary means of transportation during the late night, it is anticipated that they will be able to provide better service by calculating the actual traffic and selecting the routes.

  • South Korea entered an aged society phase in 2017 with the elderly accounting for 14% or higher of the entire population. It is expected to enter a super-aged society phase in 2026. The mobility handicapped, including the disabled and the elderly, are expected to grow continuously, and the demand for transport service for the mobility handicapped will definitely increase further. Thus, there is thus a need for various research to increase the utilization rate of low-floor buses among the mobility handicapped. This study analyzed the locations of getting on and off transportation means, time of departure and arrival, purpose of use, and frequency of use by the day among the mobility handicapped by making use of the information about their use of special transport service run by the mobility support center for the mobility handicapped. The study then proposed a method of selecting locations for low-floor bus stops to reflect the distribution and need of getting on and off transportation means among the mobility handicapped with such spatial analysis techniques as geocoding, overlapping analysis, buffer analysis, and generate tessellations. Finally, the study selected 228 locations for low-floor bus stops in Cheonan and reported a need to add 35 low-floor bus stops after eliminating the ones where the locations overlapped the old ones.

  • In the Seoul metropolitan bus network, it may be necessary for a bus passenger to pick up a parcel, which has been purchased through e-commerce, at his or her convenient bus stop on the way to home or office. The flow-capturing location-allocation model can be applied to select pickup points for such bus stops so that they maximize the captured passenger flows, where each passenger flow represents an origin-destination (O-D) pair of a passenger trip. In this paper, we propose a fast heuristic algorithm to select pickup points using a large O-D matrix, which has been extracted from five million transportation card transactions. The experimental results demonstrate the bus stops chosen as pickup points in terms of passenger flow and capture ratio, and illustrate the spatial distribution of the top 20 pickup points on a map.

  • Real-time bus arrival information within the Bus Information System (BIS) is an invaluable resource for users that demand accurate and up-to-date bus headway information while waiting at a bus stop. The associated benefits of such a system come in two folds, that is to 1) resolve the psychological uncertainty caused by the lack of real-time bus arrival information and 2) empower the user waiting at bus stops with the ability to reliably coordinate various tasks and errands, such as a quick trip into a convenience store or restroom without fear of missing a bus pick-up. This paper discusses the appropriate methodology with which to measure the economic value of reliable bus arrival information, with particular emphasis on the psychological uncertainty in users associated with the lack of real-time headway information at bus stops. Data regarding bus transit users' willingness to pay for such a service is obtained through questionnaire surveys, and the Contingent Valuation Method is used to analyze and derive the associated economic value. Our findings indicate the monetary value associated with a real-time bus arrival information system is approximately 132.5 won/min at the 0.3 significance level.

  • The convenient techniques for predicting the bus arrival time have used the data obtained from the buses belong to the same company only. Consequently, the conventional techniques have often failed to predict the bus arrival time at the downstream bus stops due to the lack of the data during congestion time period. The primary objective of this study is to overcome the weakness of the conventional techniques. The estimation model developed based on the data obtained from Bus Information System(BIS) and Bus management System(BMS). The proposed model predicts the bus arrival time at bus stops by using the data of all buses travelling same roadway section during the same time period. In the tests, the proposed model had a good accuracy of predicting the bus arrival time at the bus stops in terms of statistical measurements (e.g., root mean square error). Overall, the empirical results were very encouraging: the model maintains a prediction job during the morning and evening peak periods and delivers excellent results for the severely congested roadways that are of the most practical interest.

  • The influence of bus stops near signalized intersections is one of the important factors which cannot be negligible in the analysis of the capacity of signalized intersections. Absence of consideration of bus bay can reduce capacity and increase the time that the stop of buses block other traveling vehicles. This influence is reflected by the bus blockage adjustment factor in KHCM, but the factor does not consider the course of each bus passing the intersection. Particularly, left turn buses have more influence on the capacity than the other buses and require the minimum length of the road for lane changes. All the existing criteria can apply only to arterial roads on which mostly traffic flows are continuous. And the criteria. which can determine the optimum location and the minimum distance between a signalized intersection and a bus bay, is not prepared and the related study is insufficient. Therefore, a theoretical formula is derived in this study being based on the theories which are avaliable to apply to the situation of signalized intersections.

  • The paper presented not only the difference of the marginal walking time by passenger. but also the derivation of the bus service determination model by passenger attributes. The marginal walking distance to bus stop is a basic parameter to estimate bus service coverage area in certain area. And the marginal walking distance could be transformed from the marginal walking time, which is the focus of this paper. The result of analysis revealed that the age and income of passenger are strongly related to the marginal walking time. In planning or regulating the spacing of bus routes or bus stops in certain area, the model suggested in this paper help for the planner to choose optimal alternative.

  • This paper is to review a literature concerning Bus Transit Route Network Design(BTRNDP), to describe a future study direction for a systematic application for the BTRNDP. Since a bus transit uses a fixed route, schedule, stop, therefore an approach methodology is different from that of auto network design problem. An approach methodology for BTRNDP is classified by 8 categories: manual & guideline, market analysis, system analytic model. heuristic model. hybrid model. experienced-based model. simulation-based model. mathematical optimization model. In most previous BTRNDP, objective function is to minimize user and operator costs, and constraints on the total operator cost, fleet size and service frequency are common to several previous approach. Transit trip assignment mostly use multi-path trip assignment. Since the search for optimal solution from a large search space of BTRNDP made up by all possible solutions, the mixed combinatorial problem are usually NP-hard. Therefore, previous researches for the BTRNDP use a sequential design process, which is composed of several design steps as follows: the generation of a candidate route set, the route analysis and evaluation process, the selection process of a optimal route set Future study will focus on a development of detailed OD trip table based on bus stop, systematic transit route network evaluation model. updated transit trip assignment technique and advanced solution search algorithm for BTRNDP.
