  • The performances of the building service equipment relay on the individual superintendent's share for the assessment of performance, fault detection, deterioration diagnosis of the building service equipment. A major use of building energy management system(BEMS) is for monitoring plant and building's energy consumption. National building management system (N-BMS) presented in this study links buildings into a network group in order to monitor and control the buildings. How to construct the N-BMS was considered to save energy resource and to conserve performance of building service equipment. The FEMIS, facility, energy/environmental management & information system, for building service offer management process integrated with BAS, FMS and EMS and so on.

On the domain size for the steady-state CFD modelling of a tall building

  • There have existed for a number of years good practice guidelines for the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in the field of wind engineering. As part of those guidelines, details are given for the size of flow domain that should be used around a building of height, H. For low-rise buildings, the domain sizes produced by following the guidelines are reasonable and produce results that are largely free from blockage effects. However, when high-rise or tall buildings are considered, the domain size based solely on the building height produces very large domains. A large domain, in most cases, leads to a large cell count, with many of the cells in the grid being used up in regions far from the building/wake region. This paper challenges this domain size guidance by looking at the effects of changing the domain size around a tall building. The RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is used in a series of steady-state solutions where the only parameter varied is the domain size, with the mesh resolution in the building/wake region left unchanged. Comparisons between the velocity fields in the near-field of the building and pressure coefficients on the building are used to inform the assessment. The findings of the work for this case suggest that a domain of approximately 10% the volume of that suggested by the existing guidelines could be used with a loss in accuracy of less than 10%.

Using Drone and Laser Scanners for As-built Building Information Model Creation of a Cultural Heritage Building (드론 및 레이저스캐너를 활용한 근대 건축물 문화재 빌딩정보 모델 역설계 구축에 관한 연구)

  • The use of drones and laser scanners have the potential to drastically reduce the time and costs of conventional techniques employed for field survey of cultural heritage buildings. Moreover, point cloud data can be utilized to create an as-built Building Information Model (BIM), providing a repository for consistent operations information. However, BIM creation is not a requisite for heritage buildings, and their technological possibilities and barriers have not been documented. This research explored the processes required to convert a heritage university building to a BIM model, using existing off-the-shelf software applications. Point cloud data was gathered from drones for the exterior, while a laser scanner was employed for the interior of the building. The point clouds were preprocessed and used as references for the geometry of the building elements, including walls, slabs, windows, doors, and staircases. The BIM model was subsequently created for the individual elements using existing and custom libraries. The model was used to extract 2D CAD drawings that met the requirements of Korea's heritage preservation specifications. The experiment showed that technical improvements were needed to overcome issues of occlusion, modeling errors due to modeler's subjective judgements and point cloud data cleaning and filtering techniques.

Keypoint-based Deep Learning Approach for Building Footprint Extraction Using Aerial Images

  • Building footprint extraction is an active topic in the domain of remote sensing, since buildings are a fundamental unit of urban areas. Deep convolutional neural networks successfully perform footprint extraction from optical satellite images. However, semantic segmentation produces coarse results in the output, such as blurred and rounded boundaries, which are caused by the use of convolutional layers with large receptive fields and pooling layers. The objective of this study is to generate visually enhanced building objects by directly extracting the vertices of individual buildings by combining instance segmentation and keypoint detection. The target keypoints in building extraction are defined as points of interest based on the local image gradient direction, that is, the vertices of a building polygon. The proposed framework follows a two-stage, top-down approach that is divided into object detection and keypoint estimation. Keypoints between instances are distinguished by merging the rough segmentation masks and the local features of regions of interest. A building polygon is created by grouping the predicted keypoints through a simple geometric method. Our model achieved an F1-score of 0.650 with an mIoU of 62.6 for building footprint extraction using the OpenCitesAI dataset. The results demonstrated that the proposed framework using keypoint estimation exhibited better segmentation performance when compared with Mask R-CNN in terms of both qualitative and quantitative results.

  • A two-hour fire-resistance PC hollow slab for residential use was developed to secure structural and fire-resistance performance and to be applied to the general building and apartment housing markets. Compared to the existing hollow slab, in order to secure the same or better structural performance and economic feasibility by reducing the quantity, it was attempted to secure the fire resistance performance by reducing the concrete filling rate in the cross section and adjusting the thickness of the upper and lower flanges by optimizing the hollow shape in the cross section of the slab. For structural performance evaluation, experiments were performed on PC hollow slabs by varying the member thickness and the presence or absence of overlaid concrete, and all of the experimental results showed that the design strength was sufficiently exhibited and that stability during construction was possible. The developed synthetic PC hollow slab has secured fire resistance and residential performance so that it can be applied to all buildings, and it is intended to be immediately applied to the field.

  • CFT concrete has high flowing, high strength and resistance to material separation to use skyscraper structure. It is considered that concrete could fill the lower part of Diaphragm up. This kinds of CFT concrete hardly apply to building below 20 stories. Using the common use strength concrete to building below 20 stories brings to reduce construction cost. This concrete is needed that valid fluidity and packing ability with unit cement content as common use strength concrete. Offering a fundamental data and proportioning in CFT concrete of below 20 stories, it is executed basic property test, analysis of proportioning and mock up test.

  • This paper was to investigate the effect of incinerator ash on engineering properties of the high volume blast furnace slag concrete through Mock-up test. Test results revealed that the use of recycled aggregates resulted in increase of slump compared with the OPC concrete. But, the use of recycled aggregates did not affect the results of air contents and chloride contents. The use of recycled aggregates showed shortening of setting time of high volume blast furnace slag concrete. When the recycled aggregate was used, delay in strength development at early age happened with high volume blast furnace slag concrete compared with that of OPC concrete.

  • Currently energy use planning council system is mandatory especially for the urban development project planned on a specified scale or more. The goal of existing demand prediction was to calculate the maximum load by multiplying energy load per unit area by building size. The result of this method may be exaggerated and has a limit in the information of period load. The paper suggests a new forecasting process based on standard unit household in order to upgrade the limit in demand prediction method of multi-family housing complex. The new process was verified by comparing actual using amount of multi-family housing complex to forecasting value of energy use plan.

  • In case of concrete, it should be deformed by many factors, such as explosive spalling, thermal strain and creep at high temperature. Structural fire design has been proposed to predict fire damage as national standard. It is general safer to use values obtained from tests of unstressed residual test in stead of stressed test. But most of thermal properties on concrete were conducted with normal aggregate. In this study, it evaluated mechanical properties of concrete with aggregate type and loading condition. we use normal and light aggregate to have different thermal properties. Also, we test mechanical properties to use Ø100×200 mm cylinder specimen according to target temperature and 0%, 20%, 40% loading.
