  • In the architectural space of modem age, expanding to the vertical and horizontal direction for the interaction between space and space is becoming an indispensable factor, and in this expansion, ramps are being positioned as one of the important factors. With an increased use of ramps, they show a variety of changes in types, functions and even concepts. The space where modem ramps are used exhibits a phenomenon that accommodates and expands many functions as well as the confined function of moving people, and is widening the scope of recognition on the functions of ramp. In addition, this phenomenon can be seen as an architectural reflection on the complexation trend of the modem society, the components comprising a ramp contact the body of experiencers closely and thus have a direct effect on their behavior or feeling, and owing to this, it is a space where new functions and meaning are highly likely to be derived. In this study, spaces where ramps are used stay away from an element of uniform vertical movement but have an independent environment within the entire space, thereby being used as a space dominating the nature of the building, not a subsidiary element of it. In this study, therefore, it could be known that spaces in which ramps are used are different in their meaning according to the patterns, not as an element of uniform vertical movement. In addition, these conclusions are the results by analyzing the patterns of ramps taking place in modem spaces and are thought to be helpful in understanding spaces where ramps are used.

  • As the scope of the target of terrorism is recently extending, the danger of domestic terroristic attacks is increasing constantly, and the form of terrorism is changing from hard targets such as significant facilities of the country into soft target of multi-complex buildings such as skyscrapers. Accordingly this study analyzes the terrorism threat level on skyscrapers by comparing the assessment results of the terrorism threat level on skyscrapers and high-rise buildings with the assessment results of the terrorism threat level on low-rise buildings through fema 455 - Rapid Visual Screening. As a result, skyscrapers and high-rise buildings are relatively higher threat rating than consequences and vulnerability rating. This is caused by the fact that the terrorism threat level on skyscrapers is high due to their residents and their national or regional symbolism and visibility

  • Apartment housing should require the systematic maintenance to provide the decent living condition during its life. Each household should participate the maintenance activities and pay for the repair. Therefore, the required cost for repair would be needed to plan in the repair schedule because each household could not pay the much repair money at a time. After apartment constructed, a long term repair plan would be prepared in repair time, repair scope and a required cost. A few studies are said that the repair cost depends on the building deterioration, elapsed year and management factors. The above factors are not be certain to affect the repair management while it may be important to prepare the required money and the repair time. In this paper, it aimed at analyzing the correlation between the repair management and the management factors, especially total area, number of household. This would educe the unit cost per number of household and management area in the individual boiler and elevator with full change and full repair. The unit cost per number of household and area for full change are about 199,000 won/household and $1,954won/m^2$ in the individual boiler respectively. The unit cost of the elevator for full change is 94,000 won/household and $5,429won/m^2$ respectively. Second, this study shows that the elapsed year after construction would not be related the repair unit cost.

  • Recently, the importance of systematic Land-monitoring has been emphasized. The existing Law does not include any definitions or regulations of monitoring. Although there exist laws regarding examining and measuring the current status of region, utilization, distribution, share, security and management of the data need to be improved. In order to upgrade the Land-monitoring system, several tasks such as terms, building cycle, forms, scope, management team should be well-defined. In this study, problems of the Land-monitoring is investigated by understanding the legislation in the land planning system and its operating system. The setting of the land-monitoring concept in Framework Act on the National Land and revision of specific laws in this field were introduced. Finally, new Land-monitoring legislation covering the improvement of the data-acquisition and co-utilization were suggested.

  • Structural health monitoring to determine structural conditions at an early stage and to efficiently manage the energy requirements of buildings using systems that collects relevant data, is under active investigation. Structural monitoring requires cutting-edge technology in which construction, sensing, and ICT technologies are combined. However, the scope of application is limited because expensive sensors and specialized technical skills are often required. In this study, a Raspberry Pi module, one of the most widely used single board computers, a Lora module that is capable of long-distance communication at low power, and a high-performance accelerometer are used to construct a wireless edge computing system that can monitor building response over an extended time period. In addition, the Raspberry Pi module utilizes an edge computing algorithm, and only meaningful data is obtained from the vast amount of acceleration data acquired in real-time. The raw data acquired using Wi-Fi communication are compared to the Laura data to evaluate the accuracy of the data obtained using the system.

  • This paper aims to suggest a policy for biological resource based on a comprehensive understanding on biological resources. Biological resources are different from traditionally recognized viable organisms (Biodiversity) in ecosystems. Biological resources are culturable and replicable resources of living organisms such as tissues, cells and genes. Moreover, biological resources include human-derived biological materials. Biological resources is not simply a matter of science and technology. Biological resources should be dealt with as national resources. There are many international issues regarding biological resources, such as intellectual property rights (IPRs), safety on handling and distribution, material transfer agreements (MTAs) for mutual benefits and biological standards. Ethical debates are also being raised because biological resources are related with human-derived biological materials. Every nation has tendency to adopt its government policies to strengthen its sovereignty on biological resources and international cooperation. In addition, international linkages are essential for providing enhanced worldwide accessibility to biological resources. Japan has shown several international initiatives in the field of biological resources. Korea has just begun to design appropriate policies for the use and R&D of biological resources. Therefore, this paper suggests the following needs: 1) policy at the national level beyond the interests of researchers, 2) inter-ministerial coordination across government ministries, 3) expansion of scope and size of each BRC (Biological Resource Centers), and 4) building networks and systems such as national information center, representative centers by field, and each BRC.

  • As a central part in smart construction, BIM has been rapidly spread in construction industry at large. However, the level of applying BIM in construction stage is still relatively lower than that in design stage due to unclear application method, inadequate design BIM model, technical faults of BIM itself, etc. Under these circumstances, public owners inevitably need to adjust the scope and pace in BIM application considering their internal support and capabilities of contractors. This study aims to suggest major BIM-applicable tasks during construction stage in the process of establishing gradual long-term and short-term introduction strategy for public apartment housing projects. Those major tasks were identified with the combination of the importance of tasks and the future benefits of BIM using IPA method. To do so, the degrees of contribution to achieving objectives in construction, current task execution, and communication requirement were investigated by internal site managers. On the other hand, the expected benefits and current level of using BIM were assessed by BIM experts. Among operational tasks by phases, design review, construction plan review, making as-built drawing, etc. were categorized as major tasks. In addition, progress control, regular meeting, master schedule development, work inspection, on-site quality check, etc. were also drawn as major tasks by management areas. The results of this study will provide the useful reference for owners concerned about the introduction of new technologies.
