A Numerical Study on Two-Dimensional Turbulent Flow Field Around a Building (건물주위의 이차원 난류류동장에 대한 수치적 해석)

  • The heat loss of a building within a wind flow field results from convection and natural ventilation. Loss from natural ventilation is much more than one from convection, and the former depends mostly on the pressure distribution at the building surface. Therefore, the objective of the present study is to calculate the pressure distribution and investigate flow phenomena, around the building with a rectangular shape in a two-dimensional turbulent flow field. The finite difference method, modelled upon the turbulence $k-\epsilon$ model, has been applied to the analysis. The results, followed by the changes of Reynolds numbers, inlet flow conditions, and building shapes, have been also obtained, respectively. Various results of the present numerical analysis coincide qualitatively well with earlier reported empirical results.

  • In Korea, construction and development has been continued rapidly since the 1970s, and the reconstruction and renovation market has recently been activated to improve old buildings. Most of the environmental evaluation of reconstruction and renovation projects is focused on the use of operating energy, and It is necessary to analyze carbon emissions throughout the life cycle for a comprehensive evaluation of reconstruction and remodeling projects. Therefore, this study quantitatively predicted carbon emissions from reconstruction and renovation based on ISO 14040s through case analysis for the purpose of evaluating the carbon emissions of renovated buildings from the perspective of the whole life cycle. In additional, the amount of carbon savings of each was analyzed through comparison with existing building.

  • In this study, we conducted a case analysis of the building finish and equipment deterioration sector in the validity assessment of safety inspection findings for reconstruction. A total of 21 cases were analyzed to confirm the characteristic of performance score for each subsector. It is confirmed that the average performance score was generally affected by maintenance activity, had regional characteristics.

  • This paper describes the application of the three sustainable design elements for a residential project in the county of Los Angeles, USA. The first design element is the green building design in which a base model will be created using the Autodesk REVIT MEP program for the analysis by Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the energy analysis modeling process to determine the energy savings for each of the recommended design features. The second element is the Low Impact Development design for the site design using specialty material and structural devices for infiltration and recycling of storm water for reuse. The third element is the application of drought tolerant plant species in the site's landscaping design as a means to conserve water. The construction cost associated with the application of these three elements will be reviewed to determine the practicality and effectiveness of this sustainable design approach.

  • This research aims to examine the spatial patterns of vacant housings and the factors determining housing vacancy in Daegu using individual-level building DB. The results of the spatial pattern analysis showed a donut shaped-spatial concentration of vacant housings in the central areas of the city. The results of logistic regression analysis revealed that not only individual building characteristics, such as building area, number of floors, and building age, but also socio-economic characteristics of community, such as urban redevelopment district, number of adjacent vacancies, recent population change, and ratio of elderly, are important factors affecting housing vacancies.

  • Through qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, the contradictory conclusions about the stability of the settled goaf with two-layer coal seams subject to building load were obtained. Therefore, it is necessary to combine the additional stress method and numerical simulation to further analyze the foundation stability. Through borehole analysis and empirical formula analogy, the height of water-conducting fracture zone in No.4 coal and No.9 coal were obtained, providing the calculation range of water-conducting fracture zone for numerical simulation. To ensure the accuracy of the elastic modulus of broken gangue, the stress-strain curve were obtained by broken gangue compression test in dried state of No.4 coal seam and in soaking state of No.9 coal seam. To ensure the rationality of the numerical simulation results, the actual measured subsidence data were retrieved by numerical simulation. FISH language was used to analyze the maximum building load on the surface and determine the influence depth of building load on the foundation. The critical building load was 0.16 MPa of No.4 settled goaf and was 1.6 MPa of No.9 settled goaf. The additional stress affected the water-conducting fracture zone obviously, resulted in the subsidence of water-conducting fracture zone was greater than that of bending subsidence zone. In this paper, the additional stress method was analyzed by numerical simulation method, which can provide a new analysis method for the treatment and utilization of the settled goaf.

  • The modular construction method is an off-site construction method using built-in structures from the manufacturing facilities. Modular construction is commonly applied to buildings which have relatively smaller and simpler structures than other types of buildings. Although modular building has emerged in the domestic construction industry as an alternative building strategy, previous researches on the environmental characteristics of modular building has not been comprehensively studied. Thus, this study empirically analyzed the insulation performance of thermal bridge and condensation parts of the modular buildings by using IR image analysis, Air-Surface Temperature Ratio method, and temperature difference ratio. The insulation performance analysis was conducted by comparing a modular building and a RC building in Seoul.   • The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of the building, site, and region characteristic factors on the annual average price rising rate of apartment housing in Seoul. The data were consisted of 272 apartment units in Seoul. A survey included checking the drawing documents and interview with apartment maintenance staffs and real estate agencies from October 2006 to February 2007. Data were analyzed with descriptives, frequency, crosstabs, and linear regression by SPSS/PC for Window. The linear regression model was employed to evaluate the price rising rate in apartment housing. Following results were obtained. The price rising rate for pyeong ($3.3m^2$) of apartment housing was determinated by the district zone, the construction company's brand name, the building age, the building stories, the floor space index, the building-to-land ratio, the green space rate, and the distance from the downtown. Especially, the district zone was the most important factor that affected the price rising of apartment housing in Seoul. Therefore, the policy has to focus to solve the imbalance between autonomous districts with the collaborated tax.

  • Ground-coupled heat pump (GCHP) systems have become an efficient alternative to conventional cooling and heating methods due to their higher energy using efficiency. Although some experimental and simulation works related to performance analysis of GCHP systems for commercial buildings have been done, relatively little has been reported on the performance evaluation of GCHP systems for school buildings. The purpose of this simulation study is to evaluate the performance of a hypothetical GCHP system for a school building in Seoul. We collected various data of building specifications and construction materials for the building and then modeled to calculate hourly building loads with SketchuUp and TRNSYS V17. In addition, we used GLD (Ground Loop Design) V2016, a GCHP system design and simulation software, to design the GCHP system for the building and to simulate temperature of circulating water in ground heat exchanger. The variation of entering source temperature (EST) into the system was calculated with different prediction time and then each result was compared. For 20 years of prediction time, EST for baseline design (Case A) based on the hourly simulation results were outranged from the design criteria.

  • This research is aiming to specify the requirement of the investment such as initial cost, running cost earning rate to make effective investment considering the purpose of remodeling and economical value of store building enough to meet the initial purpose of remodeling. The review of earning rate for economical evaluation was performed by the on-site auditing on the structure and function of the building and applying the assessment simulation program, which is to find the possible business model to identify the requirement of building owner through case study. After the research, the following results are obtained. First, it is important that many aspects should be carefully analysis and the best method should be selected as characteristics of remodeling can be defer each other in their implementations. Second, though the remodeling of exist buildings to promote the functions has been applied. no suitable assessment tool has bee developed for deciding the level of remodeling in the view of economical efficiency so far. Third, the economical benefit was evaluated by analysing annual earning rate which is applied by investment items and recovery period for the investment. More specific data bate should be established to apply the suggested economic accession in business enough to forecast the future circumstances. More researches should be promoted on this area continuously as well as the integrated economic evaluation of remodeling on existing building.
