Characteristics of two-phase flow and heat transfer were numerically investigated in a submerged gas Injection system. Effects of both the gas flow rate and bubble size were investigated. In addition, heat transfer characteristic and effects of heat transfer were investigated when temperature of the injected gas was different from that of the liquid. The Eulerian approach was used for the formulation of both the continuous and the dispersed phases. The turbulence in the liquid phase was modeled by the use of the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. The interphase friction and heat transfer coefficient were calculated by means of correlations available in the literature. The turbulent dispersion of the phases was modeled by introducing a "dispersion Prandtl number". The plume region and the axial velocities are increased with increases in the gas flow rate and with decreases in the bubble diameter. The turbulent flow field grows stronger with the increases in the gas flow rate and with the decreases in the bubble diameter. In case that the heat transfer between the liquid and the gas is considered, the axial and the radial velocities are decreased in comparison with the case that there is no temperature difference between the liquid and the gas when the temperature of the injected gas is higher than the mean liquid temperature. The results in the present research are of interest in the design and the operation of a wide variety of material and chemical processes.
Submerged gas-injected system can be applied to various industrial field such as metallurgical and chemical processes, So this study aims at presenting the relevant relationship between gas phase and liquid phase in a gas-injected bath. In a cylinderical bath, local gas volume fraction and bubble frequency were measured by electroconductivity probe and oscilloscope. The temperature of each phase was measured using thermocouple and data acquisition system. In vertical gas injection system, gas-liquid two phase plume was formed, being symmetry to the axial direction of injection nozzle and in a shape of con. Lacal gas-liquid flow becomes irregular around the injection nozzle due to kinetic energy of gas and the flow variables show radical change at the vicinity of gas(air) injection nozzle As most of the kinetic energy of gas was transferred to liquid in this region, liquid started to circulate. In this reason, this region was defined as 'developing flow region' The Bubble was taking a form of churn flow at the vicinity of nozzle. Sometimes smaller bubbles formed by the collapse of bubbles were observed. The gas injected into liquid bath lost its kinetic energy and then was governed by the effect of buoyancy. In this region the bubbles which lost their kinetic energy move upward with relatively uniform velocity and separate. Near the gas nozzle, gas concentration was the highest. But it started to decrease as the axial distance increased, showing a Gaussian distribution.
The In-Containment Refueling Water Storage Tank (IRWST), one of the design improvements applied to the APR -1400, has a function to condense the high enthalpy fluid discharged from the Reactor Coolant System (RCS). The condensation of discharged fluid by the tank water drives the tank temperature high and causes oscillatory condensation. Also if the tank cooling water temperature approaches the saturated state, the steam bubble may escape from the water uncondensed. These oscillatory condensation and bubble escape would burden the undue load to the tank structure, pressurize the tank, and degrade its intended function. For these reasons simple analytical modeling and experimental works were performed in order to predict exact tank temperature distribution and to find the effective cooling method to keep the tank temperature below the bubble escape limit (93.3$^{\circ}C$), which was experimentally proven by other researchers. Both the analytical model and experimental results show that the temperature distributions are horizontally stratified. Particularly, the hot liquid produced by the condensation around the sparger holes goes up straight like a thermal plume. Also, the momentum of the discharged fluid is not so strong to interrupt this horizontal thermal stratification significantly. Therefore the layout and shape of sparger is not so important as long as the location of the sparger hole is sufficiently close to the bottom of the tank. Finally, for the effective tank cooling it is recommended that the locations of the discharge and intake lines of the cooling system be cautiously selected considering the temperature distribution, the water level change, and the cooling effectiveness.
The idea of $CO_2$ sequestration in the ocean is proposed to be an effective mitigation strategy to counteract potential global warming due to the greenhouse effect Therefore, in the present study, calculations of the dissolution behavior of $CO_2$ hydrate when liquid carbon dioxide is released at 1,000m and 1,500m in depth are performed. The results show the liquid $CO_2$ injected in the ocean becomes $CO_2$ bubble at between 350m and 500m in depth, and the injection from a moving ship is a more effective method of dissolution than through a fixed pipeline. It so also noted that the ultimate plume generated from $CO_2$ bubbles repeats expansion and shrinking due to the peel ins from a fixed pipeline.

Liquid-assisted cleaning technology utilizing a nanosecond laser pulse is effective for removing submicron particulates from a variety of solid substrates. In the technique, saturated vapor is condensed on a solid surface to form a thin liquid film and the film is evaporated explosively by laser heating. The present work studies the role of liquid-film evaporation in the cleaning process. First, optical interferometry is employed for in-situ monitoring the displacement of the laser-irradiated sample in the cleaning process. The experiments are performed for estimating the recoil force exerted on the target with and without liquid deposition. Secondly, time-resolved visualization and optical reflectance probing are also conducted for monitoring the phase-change kinetics and plume dynamics in vaporization of thin liquid layers. Discussions are made on the effect of liquid-film thickness and dynamics of plume and acoustic wave. The results confirm that cleaning force is generated when the bubble nuclei initially grow in the strongly superheated liquid.

This study investigated the hydraulic impact scope and dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration distribution by the micro-bubble aeration in the Juksan Lake located in Asan city in Chungcheongnam-do province. A tracing experiment for hydraulic impact scope was used which constituted a 20% rhodamine solution. A 160 m-guideline was installed in the horizontal direction of the micro-bubble jet flow and the rhodamine concentration, water temperature, and DO concentration were measured at depths of 1 m, 2 m, and 3 m at intervals of 10 m. In the Juksan Lake, the effective range of jet flow discharged by the micro-bubble generator was about 40 m, and after then the jet plume moved up to 80 m to 120 m through the advection and diffusion processes of ambient water. DO concentration in the lake was maintained at 7.4-12.6 mg/L during tracking experiment. The DO of the lake sediments improved from 0.2 mg/L to 8.0 mg/L after applying micro-bubble aeration. In conclusion, the micro-bubble aeration can be an effective technology for the management and improvement of water quality in an agricultural reservoir.
In Korea while the dam or reservoir is an important water resource, the value of this water resource is deteriorating by thermal-induced stratification. To ameliorate the water quality of reservoir by breaking stratification the use of air diffuser system is now widespread in Korea. According to the previous research, dynamics of bubble plume and destratification efficiency depended upon two dimensionless groupings; Mh and Pn suggested by Asaeda et al (1993). However, these two variables only include Q, N, H, g, u. and installed Boryeong reservior in appropriate width of water aeration, air dose and number of installations after calculating by applying these figures. This paper is performed to find out effect analysis about water aeration improvement to break thermal stratification.

A modeling of a hydraulic-gun-aerator is proposed to set up a design procedure for such devices. The aerators are used to destroy any thermal stratification that are responsible for the degradation of water qualify of lakes. The aerator produces ascending flow by using air bubbies released instantly near the bottom of the lake into a cylindrical pipe installed vertically. Differently form the diffuser-aerators, they can pull up the cold, oxygen depleted water directly to the region of the free surface, and they are believed to work effectively especially for relatively deeper lakes. Their design procedure has not been established yet though, and we propose a model focusing on the exit flow velocity at the top of the aerator through the examination of presently operating devices.
