  • The fast advances in digital video processing and multimedia processing technology over the last decade enabled various non-linear video browsing techniques. Based on the machine-understanding of the video content, non-linear video brows ing interfaces such as key-frame based content summarization have been introduced. The key-frame based user interfaces, such as storyboard or table of content, however, are still very hard for conventional TV users to use, and are very hard to implement without the service providers providing additional information for the construction of the key-frame based interfaces. In this paper, non-linear video browsing techniques, which not only overcome previously described drawbacks but also are easy-to-use, and real-time video indexing technology to support the proposed browsing techniques are proposed. The structure-based skipping and skimming help users easily find interesting scene and understand the content in a very short time, using real-time video indexing technology.

  • Web pages with complex layout and small font size do not display well on large screen display such as TV because it has limited capabilities: long distance view, passive user attitude, limited input device like a legacy remote controller. We have designed and implemented new semantic zoom browsing facilities to support effective navigation on Internet-connected digital television with limited capabilities. Our browser performs partitioning of an HTML document content into semantic blocks. Semantic blocks present summarized information with more readable style and modified layout for optimal reading and browsing. Individual blocks can be selected by the user and zoomed in more detail information by the user. The scrolling on large display device needs more user interaction. Our browser modifies the layout of an HTML document with removing horizontal scrolling and minimizing vertical scrolling. This method allows users to easily view the web page by converting into optimal reading style and layout and to easily seek the information just with zooming.

  • We present the seamless browsing - a new Zooming technique based on the zoom ratios and the distances of the hyperlinks from the pointer. In most cases, users have to activate the interesting link after guessing the target content of it, just based on the insufficient information from the link label or title. We propose that a web browser displays a limited number of hyperlinks in an area around the pointer in a distinguished way, e.g. in different sizes of thumbnails, transparency or style. If a user zooms in on the pointer area, to new web browser displays the varying images of hyperlink-targets according to the zoom ratio, and finally it transfers to the new target page which was nearest to the pointer position. This method allows users to easily select a hyperlink based on rich information given by zoomable thumbnails and seamlessly to transit through web pages just with zooming. 1n our experiments, results show that the seamless browsing significantly outperforms the legacy way.

  • The advancement of information technology along with the proliferation of communication and multimedia has increased the demand of digital contents. Video data of digital contents such as VOD, NOD, Digital Library, IPTV, and UCC are getting more permeated in various application fields. Video data have sequential characteristic besides providing the spatial and temporal information in its 3D format, making searching or browsing ineffective due to long turnaround time. In this paper, we suggest ATVC(Authoring Tool for Video Contents) for solving this issue. ATVC is a video editing tool that detects key frames using visual rhythm and insert metadata such as keywords into key frames via XML tagging. Visual rhythm is applied to map 3D spatial and temporal information to 2D information. Its processing speed is fast because it can get pixel information without IDCT, and it can classify edit-effects such as cut, wipe, and dissolve. Since XML data save key frame information via XML tag and keyword information, it can furnish efficient browsing.

  • In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a web-based distance learning system supporting the collaborative browsing. Our system consists of an education affair management system, a video conferencing server/client, a white-board server/client, a session manager and a web browser sharing system. Among other things, our collaborative web browser is unique and not found in any other system. The web browser shows synchronously the same web pages as the lecturer moves through them. Therefore, it allows the student to feel real-time surfing gust as the lecturer would. The session manager supports multi-user and multi-group, and integrates various synchronous collaborative component into one distance learning system by providing the same session data and information of users in a session group. Our collaborative browsing system can increase the efficiency of distance learning and provides the effect of learning in the same classroom by supporting various synchronous functionalities, such as collaborative browsing.

  • The traditional way of access to image information is through descriptive keyword searching. However, many studies in image indexing and retrieval have reached a consensus on the difficulties and limitations of text-base image description. This research investigates the feasibility of using visual browsing that is being used comparatively much less than keyword searching. The effectiveness of Keyword access versus visual access were examined through experiments in which participants searched for pictures of specified emotions using different access modes: keywords only, visual browsing only, and the combination of both. It was found that keyword searching was appropriate for clean searches while visual browsing was the effective way to browse many pictures quickly, thus finding more relevant pictures. Findings and results can guide of images retrieval systems, especially the retrieval system of subjective and interpretive information.

  • The electronic commerce site (EC site) has become an important marketing channel where consumers can purchase many kinds of products; their access logs, including purchase records and browsing histories, are saved in the EC sites' databases. These log data can be utilized for the purpose of web marketing. The customers who purchase many product items are good customers, whereas the other customers, who do not purchase many items, must not be good customers even if they browse many items. If the attributes of good customers and those of other customers are clarified, such information is valuable as input for making a new marketing strategy. Regarding the product items, the characteristics of good items that are bought by many users are valuable information. It is necessary to construct a method to efficiently analyze such characteristics. This paper proposes a new latent class model to analyze both purchasing and browsing histories to make latent item and user clusters. By applying the proposal, an example of data analysis on an EC site is demonstrated. Through the clusters obtained by the proposed latent class model and the classification rule by the decision tree model, new findings are extracted from the data of purchasing and browsing histories.

  • There is a rapid increase in the use of digital video information in recent years. Especially, user requires the environment which retrieves video from passive access to active access, to be more efficiently. we need to implement video retrieval system including video parsing, clustering, and browsing to satisfy user's requirement. In this paper, we first divide video sequence to shots which are primary unit for automatic indexing, using a hybrid method with mixing histogram method and pixel-based method. After the shot boundaries are detected, corresponding key frames can be extracted. Key frames are very important portion because they help to understand overall contents of video. In this paper, we first analyze camera operation in video and then select different number of key frames depend on shot complexity. At last, we compose panorama images from shots which are containing panning or tilting in order to provide more useful and understandable browsing environment to users.

  • Distance browsing queries, namely k-nearest neighbor queries, are the most important queries in spatial database applications, e.g., Geographic Information Systems(GISs). Recently, GIS applications trends to extend themselves toward wide multi-user environments such as the Web. Since many techniques for such queries, where Hjaltason and Samet's algorithm is the most efficient one, were optimized for only one query, we need to complement them suitable for multi-user environments. It can be a good approach that we store many individual query results in a cache, i.e., query result caching and reuse them in evaluating incoming queries, j.e., query result matching. In this paper, we propose a complementary Hjaltason and Samet's algerian capable of reusing previous query results in a cache for answering distance browsing queries in multi-user GIS environments. Our experimental results conform the efficiency of our approach.
