  • In this paper, we designed a printed square loop antenna for operating of PCS and IMT2000 band. The proposed antenna has omni-directional radiation patterns with broad bandwidth, similar to the conventional antenna, to easy feed on composing single planar. We obtain an ideal impedance matching and increase bandwidth. An antenna bandwidth is about 150MHz(1.74∼l.89〔GHz〕) at 1$^{st}$ resonance frequency and 290MHz(1.95∼2.24GHz) at 2$^{nd}$ resonance frequency on VSWR(equation omitted)1.5, and then we can obtain not only 1.73∼l.87 〔GHz〕 PCS band but also 1.92∼2.17 (GHz) IMT2000 band. band.

  • This paper presents a design for trapezoidal planar UWB(Ultra Wide-band) antenna using symmetry meander line to realize broad bandwidth at low frequency region. The size of proposed design antenna is $15.5{\times}21{\times}1.6mm^3$ and dielectric substrate considered in design has 4.4 of relative permittivity. The calculated bandwidth is from 1.31 GHz to 10.83 GHz and the measured return loss is 1.5 GHz to 10.6 GHz at -10 dB below, and satisfies with the UWB antenna's bandwidth. The simulated and measured radiation patterns show fine agreement with each other at each frequency.

  • It is necessary to apply SSB modulation method with high bandwidth efficiency to the DS-CDMA mobile communication systems in order to accommodate the increasing number of voice users as well as the broad band and high data rate service in the future. Even though the bandwidth efficiency increases if SSB modulation is applied to BPSK-DS/CDMA, its performance gets degraded because of the increased multiple access interference. Therefore for eliminating the increased multiple access interference, the SSB/BPSK-DS/CDMA with successive interference canceller(SIC) is proposed and its performance and capacity are analyzed. With the limited system bandwidth, it is shown that the SSB/BPSK-DS/CDMA with SIC can accommodate more capacity than the conventional BPSK-DS/CDMA with SIC.

  • We present a piezoelectric energy harvester with stopper-engaged dynamic magnifier which is capable of significantly increasing the operating bandwidth and the energy (power) harvested from a broad range of low frequency vibrations (<30 Hz). It uses a mass-loaded polymer beam (primary spring-mass system) that works as a dynamic magnifier for another mass-loaded piezoelectric beam (secondary spring-mass system) clamped on primary mass, constituting a two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) system. Use of polymer (polycarbonate) as the primary beam allows the harvester not only to respond to low frequency vibrations but also generates high impulsive force while the primary mass engages the base stopper. Upon excitation, the dynamic magnifier causes mechanical impact on the base stopper and transfers a secondary shock (in the form of impulsive force) to the energy harvesting element resulting in an increased strain in it and triggers nonlinear frequency up-conversion mechanism. Therefore, it generates almost four times larger average power and exhibits over 250% wider half-power bandwidth than those of its conventional 2-DOF counterpart (without stopper). Experimental results indicate that the proposed device is highly applicable to vibration energy harvesting in automobiles.

  • In this work, we present the resonant frequencies, Qrad, and impedance bandwidth of rectangular dielectric resonator antenna(DRA)for a broad range of aspect ratios using Dielectric Waveguide Model. These presented data are compared with simulation and measurement. The DRA having relative permittivities of 37.84 and 90 have been fed by a coaxial cable and fed using a aperture-coupled method for comparisions. The approximate resonant frequencies are shown to have the prediction error of about 8% and impedance bandwidth is found to have large prediction variation according to feeding method. The data presented in this paper can be used when the aspect ratios of DRA have to be determined for a given resonant frequency and impedance bandwidth.

The coupled integral equations for the unknown current distributions on each elements are derived and solved by applying Galerkin's method of moments. The flatness of antenna factor is considered. with variation of the length and number of sleeve elements.

  • In this paper, small epsilon negative(ENG) zeroth-order resonance(ZOR) antenna with improved bandwidth is presented. To reduce the size of ENG ZOR antenna without narrowing bandwidth, large shunt inductance is introduced by adding patterns on patch and meandered via. The effective permittivity of meandered via is less dependent of frequency than that of straight via in same size. Thus, ENG ZOR antenna with meandered via has broader bandwidth. As a result, the bandwidth of ENG ZOR antenna with meandered via is 1.38 times as broad as that of spiral ENG ZOR antenna with straight via. On the other hand, the area of ENG ZOR antenna is reduced by 64 % compared with that of conventional mushroom ZOR antenna.

  • There are many researches to increase bandwidth of the microstrip patch antenna for wireless LAN. In spite of broad bandwidth, Bow-Tie antenna has disadvantages that are low gain and big size. In this paper, stacked Bow-Tie microstrip patch antenna for wireless LAN is designed in 5.725 ~5.825 GHz band. This antenna has characteristics that are broadband bandwidth, high gain and small size compared with microstrip patch antenna. In simulated results, the return loss is -34.2 dB at 5.78 GHz and bandwidth is 11.345% for VSWR 2:1 and 7.75%for VSWR 1.5:1. In measured results, the return loss is -38.45 dB at 5.78 GHz and bandwidth is 13% for VSWR 2:1 and 5.6% for VSWR 1.5:1. It has 73.16$^{\circ}$ -3dB beam width and 6.5dB gain.

  • In this paper, the double balance mixer(DBM) for Ku-band LNB using InGaP/GaAs HBT process is suggested for the characteristics of low DC power consumption, low noise figure, low intermodulation distortion and wide dynamic range. The 5 dB conversion gain, 14 dB NF, bandwidth 17.9 GHz and 50.34 dBc IMD are obtained under RF input power of -23 dBm, with bias condition as 3 V and 16 mA. The linearity of InGaP/GaAs HBT, the broad band input matching scheme and the optimization of bias point result in the low IMD, the broad bandwidth and the low power consumption characteristics.

  • This paper presents a design of spiral antenna with broad bandwidth for non-linear junction detector(NLJD). An elliptical patch as radiating element located on center position of radiating surface, as well as the spiral elements on radiating surface was designed for broad bandwidth of spiral antenna. An antenna ground structure generating the multi resonance by spiral slit inserted on ground surface was also proposed. In order to realize high directivity and high gain of the proposed antenna, the cavity wall made of Fr4-epoxy and the metal cap were considered in design. As a result, the calculated gain of antenna with metal cap was improved about 3 dB with comparison of antenna without metal cap and the measured main beam directivity toward -z axis direction agreed well with calculation result. The measured axial ratio satisfied the circular polarization within -z axis ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ at design frequency bands and showed reasonable agreement with prediction.
