In this paper, we provide a trajectory-generation algorithm that can identify pedestrians in real time. Typically, the contours for the extraction of pedestrians from the foreground of images are not clear due to factors including brightness and shade; furthermore, pedestrians move in different directions and interact with each other. These issues mean that the identification of pedestrians and the generation of trajectories are somewhat difficult. We propose a new method for trajectory generation regarding multiple pedestrians. The first stage of the method distinguishes between those pedestrian-blob situations that need to be merged and those that require splitting, followed by the use of trained decision trees to separate the pedestrians. The second stage generates the trajectories of each pedestrian by using the point-correspondence method; however, we introduce a new point-correspondence algorithm for which the A* search method has been modified. By using fuzzy membership functions, a heuristic evaluation of the correspondence between the blobs was also conducted. The proposed method was implemented and tested with the PETS 2009 dataset to show an effective multiple-pedestrian-tracking capability in a pedestrian-interaction environment.
The KIAPS global model and data assimilation system were extended to assimilate brightness temperature from the Sondeur $Atmosph{\acute{e}}rique$ du Profil $d^{\prime}Humidit{\acute{e}}$ Intertropicale par $Radiom{\acute{e}}trie$ (SAPHIR) passive microwave water vapor sounder on board the Megha-Tropiques satellite. Quality control procedures were developed to assess the SAPHIR data quality for assimilating clear-sky observations over the ocean, and to characterize observation biases and errors. In the global cycle, additional assimilation of SAPHIR observation shows globally significant benefits for 1.5% reduction of the humidity root-mean-square difference (RMSD) against European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Integrated Forecast System (IFS) analysis. The positive forecast impacts for the humidity and temperature in the experiment assimilating SAPHIR were predominant at later lead times between 96- and 168-hour. Even though its spatial coverage is confined to lower latitudes of $30^{\circ}S-30^{\circ}N$ and the observable variable is humidity, the assimilation of SAPHIR has a positive impact on the other variables over the mid-latitude domain. Verification showed a 3% reduction of the humidity RMSD with assimilating SAPHIR, and moreover temperature, zonal wind and surface pressure RMSDs were reduced up to 3%, 5% and 7% near the tropical and mid-latitude regions, respectively.
We present a photometric study of the globular clusters (GCs) in the Virgo giant elliptical galaxy M86 based on Washington $CT_1$ images. The colors of the GCs in M86 show a bimodal distribution with a blue peak at ($C-T_1$) = 1.30 and a red peak at ($C-T_1$) = 1.72. The spatial distribution of the red GCs is elongated similar to that of the stellar halo, while that of the blue GCs is roughly circular. The radial number density profile of the blue GCs is more extended than that of the red GCs. The radial number density profile of the red GCs is consistent with the surface brightness profile of the M86 stellar halo. The GC system has a negative radial color gradient, which is mainly due to the number ratio of the blue GCs to the red GCs increasing as galactocentric radius increases. The bright blue GCs in the outer region of M86 show a blue tilt: the brighter they are, the redder their mean colors get. These results are discussed in comparison with other Virgo giant elliptical galaxies.

A novel method for simultaneously measuring the fluid velocity and the large particle velocity in a particle-containing fluid flow is developed in this study. In this method, the fluid velocity and the large particle velocity are measured by PIV and PTV, respectively. The PIV and PTV images are obtained from the same flow images. Since a PIV result represents the average displacement of all particles in an interrogation area, it will include an error caused by the relative displacement between the large particles and the fluid. In order to reduce the false influence of large particles on the PIV calculation, the mean brightness of small PIV particle images is substituted to the locations of large particles in the PIV images. The simulation results showed that the new method significantly reduces the PIV error caused by the large particles even at the case where the large particles occupy area fraction as large as $20\%$ of the full image.
Sky simulator is a effective daylighting design tool that can evaluate three dimensional performance of lighting. Especially, the dome type sky simulator offer reliable and reproducible daylighting performance with different standard sky models. Recently, K university has developed the dome type sky simulator(sky dome) with the diameter of 6.5m and the height of 3.7m. The sky dome consists of a group of 145 large steel panels with 72 halogen lamps which are arranged in a circular array. The luminance distribution of the sky dome can be calibrated by changing the angle and the brightness of the lamps respectively. To allow more reliable prediction and evaluation of daylighting through the sky dome, It is essential to validate the sky luminance distribution of the sky dome. This study consider the validation of the comparisons between the measured and the calculated luminance values for the CIE standard overcast sky. Also, the error rate between the measured and the calculated luminance values were compared to the previous studies. The results indicated that the K university sky dome can reproduce reliable CIE standard overcast sky with the average relative error rate of 4.4% and root-mean-square error(RMSE) of 5.4%.
We investigate the properties of bright galaxies with various morphological types in Abell 1139 and Abell 2589, using the pixel color-magnitude diagram (pCMD) analysis. The 32 bright member galaxies ($Mr{\leq}-21.3mag$) are deeply imaged in the g and r bands in our CFHT/MegaCam observations, as a part of the KASI-Yonsei Deep Imaging Survey of Clusters (KYDISC). We examine how the features of their pCMDs depend on galaxy morphology and infrared color. We find that the g - r color dispersion as a function of surface brightness (${\mu}r$) shows better performance in distinguishing galaxy morphology, than the mean g - r color does. The best set of parameters for galaxy classification appears to be a combination of the minimum color dispersion at ${\mu}r{\leq}21.2mag\;arcsec-2$ and the maximum color dispersion at $20.0{\leq}{\mu}r{\leq}21.0mag\;arcsec-2$: the latter reflects the complexity of stellar populations at the disk component in a typical spiral galaxy. Moreover, the color dispersion of an elliptical galaxy appears to be correlated with its WISE infrared color ([4.6]-[12]). This indicates that the complexity of stellar populations in an elliptical galaxy is related to its recent star formation activities. From this observational evidence, we infer that gas-rich minor mergers or gas interactions may have usually occurred during the recent growth of massive elliptical galaxies.
We determine the observing sites for eclipses of large magnitude recorded in ancient Chinese chronicles from 200 BCE to 900 CE, by adopting the difference between terrestrial time and universal time, ΔT, given by Morrison & Stephenson (2004). The records of solar eclipses with large magnitude are divided into four groups in accordance with the historical variations of the capital cities of ancient Chinese dynasties. We determine areas in which all the eclipses in each group, with an eclipse magnitude larger than a certain threshold value, could be observed. We find that these areas coincide with the historical capitals, which agrees with the general idea that the solar eclipses were observed at the capital of each dynasty. This result also verifies the ΔT values during the period from 100 BCE to 400 CE, during which historical records of eclipses are so rare that the ΔT values can only be obtained by interpolating the long-term data. Moreover, we show that the eclipses described by the term Ji in East-Asian history are not all total eclipses; their mean magnitude is 0.96 ± 0.04. We find that complementary expressions, such as dark daytime and appearance of stars during the eclipse, strengthen the possibility that eclipses described by the term Ji were total. We also provide quantitative definitions for expressions such as 'being not complete and like a hook', 'being almost complete', 'visibility of stars during the eclipse', and 'darkness during an eclipse.' The literal meanings of these expressions are in agreement with the recent physical modeling of sky brightness during total eclipses provided by Können & Hinz (2008).

Night-time image quality evaluation is an urgent requirement in visual inspection. The lighting environment of night-time results in low brightness, low contrast, loss of detailed information, and colour dissonance of image, which remains a daunting task of delicately evaluating the image quality at night. A new blind quality assessment metric is presented for realistic night-time scenario through a comprehensive consideration of contrast, texture, and colour in this article. To be specific, image blocks' color-gray-difference (CGD) histogram that represents contrast features is computed at first. Next, texture features that are measured by the mean subtracted contrast normalized (MSCN)-weighted local binary pattern (LBP) histogram are calculated. Then statistical features in Lαβ colour space are detected. Finally, the quality prediction model is conducted by the support vector regression (SVR) based on extracted contrast, texture, and colour features. Experiments conducted on NNID, CCRIQ, LIVE-CH, and CID2013 databases indicate that the proposed metric is superior to the compared BIQA metrics.

Experiments were carried out to quantify the topographic effects on attenuation of sunshine in complex terrain and the results are expected to help convert the coarse resolution sunshine duration information provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) into a detailed map reflecting the terrain characteristics of mountainous watershed. Hourly shaded relief images for one year, each pixel consisting of 0 to 255 brightness value, were constructed by applying techniques of shadow modeling and skyline analysis to the 3m resolution digital elevation model for an experimental watershed on the southern slope of Mt. Jiri in Korea. By using a bimetal sunshine recorder, sunshine duration was measured at three points with different terrain conditions in the watershed from May 15, 2015 to May 14, 2016. The brightness values of the 3 corresponding pixel points on the shaded relief map were extracted and regressed to the measured sunshine duration, resulting in a brightness-sunshine duration response curve for a clear day. We devised a method to calibrate this curve equation according to sky condition categorized by cloud amount and used it to derive an empirical model for estimating sunshine duration over a complex terrain. When the performance of this model was compared with a conventional scheme for estimating sunshine duration over a horizontal plane, the estimation bias was improved remarkably and the root mean square error for daily sunshine hour was 1.7hr, which is a reduction by 37% from the conventional method. In order to apply this model to a given area, the clear-sky sunshine duration of each pixel should be produced on hourly intervals first, by driving the curve equation with the hourly shaded relief image of the area. Next, the cloud effect is corrected by 3-hourly 'sky condition' of the KMA digital forecast products. Finally, daily sunshine hour can be obtained by accumulating the hourly sunshine duration. A detailed sunshine duration distribution of 3m horizontal resolution was obtained by applying this procedure to the experimental watershed.

In this paper, we studied a system that detects and analyzes the pathological features of diabetic retinopathy using Mask R-CNN and a Random Forest classifier. Those are one of the deep learning techniques and automatically diagnoses diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy can be diagnosed through fundus images taken with special equipment. Brightness, color tone, and contrast may vary depending on the device. Research and development of an automatic diagnosis system using artificial intelligence to help ophthalmologists make medical judgments possible. This system detects pathological features such as microvascular perfusion and retinal hemorrhage using the Mask R-CNN technique. It also diagnoses normal and abnormal conditions of the eye by using a Random Forest classifier after pre-processing. In order to improve the detection performance of the Mask R-CNN algorithm, image augmentation was performed and learning procedure was conducted. Dice similarity coefficients and mean accuracy were used as evaluation indicators to measure detection accuracy. The Faster R-CNN method was used as a control group, and the detection performance of the Mask R-CNN method through this study showed an average of 90% accuracy through Dice coefficients. In the case of mean accuracy it showed 91% accuracy. When diabetic retinopathy was diagnosed by learning a Random Forest classifier based on the detected pathological symptoms, the accuracy was 99%.
