The optimal conditions for the production of branched dextrin from com starch (CSBD) using branching enzyme (BE) were established by investigating the degree of retrogradation of the gelatinized starch. The physicochemical properties of CSBD prepared using the established process were evaluated. It was found that physicochemical properties of com starch were greatly modified by BE treatment. CSBD had a higher dextrose-equivalent value and water solubility than the corresponding control. On the other hand, the viscosities in gelatinized solution and amylose contents of CSBD were lower than those of the control. A high-performance size-exclusion chromatography/multiangle laser light scattering/retractive index (HPSEC/MALLS/RI) system showed that the average molecular weight of CSBD was lower than that of the control. The pasting viscosities of CSBD were stable during the entire temperature cycle. In general, the BE treatment resulted in the retrogradation during storage being lower for CSBD than for the control.
This paper addresses a new technique for constructing surface model from a set of wire-frame contours. The most difficult problem of this technique, called contour triangulation, arises when there are many branches on the surface, and causes lots of ambiguities in surface definition process. In this paper, the branching problem is reduced as the surface reconstruction from a set of virtual belts and virtual canyons. To tile the virtual belts, a divide-and-conquer strategy based tiling technique, called the BPA algorithm, is adopted. The virtual canyons are covered naturally by an iterative convex removal algorithm with addition of a center vertex for each branching surface. Compared with most of the previous works reducing the multiple branching problem into a set of tiling problems between contours, our method can handle the problem more easily by transforming it into more simple topology, the virtual belt and the virtual canyon. Furthermore, the proposed method does not involve any set of complicated criteria, and provides a simple and robust algorithm for surface triangulation. The result shows that our method works well even though there are many complicated branches in the object.

In this paper, we proposed an optimization technique for efficiently placing vehicles on decks in a vehicle-carrying ship to efficiently handle loading and unloading. For this purpose, we utilized the transformation method of the XML data representing the ship's spatial information, merging and branching algorithm and genetic algorithm, and implemented the function to visualize the optimized vehicle placement results. The techniques of selection, crossover, mutation, and elite preservation, which are used in the conventional genetic algorithms, are used. In particular, the vehicle placement optimization method is proposed by merging and branching the ship space for the vehicle loading. The experimental results show that the proposed merging and branching method is effective for the optimization process that is difficult to optimize with the existing genetic algorithm alone. In addition, visualization results show vehicle layout results in the form of drawings so that experts can easily determine the efficiency of the layout results.
The branched copolyester was synthesized and its molecular weight, $T_g$, 1/2 method temperature ($T_{1/2}$) and rheological properties were characterized for the application of toner binder. The linear copolyester had low molecular weight and melt elasticity obtained by dimethylterephthalate (DMT), ethylene glycol (EG) and 2,2-bis(4-(2-hydroxypropoxy) phenyl)propane (HPP). The branched copolyesters prepared with various branching agents such as 2-(hydroxymethyl)-2-ethylpropane-1,3-diol (trimethylol propane, TMP), 2,2-bi(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (pentaerythritol, PER), 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic anhydride (trimellitic anhydride, TMA) and glycerol to improve the physical properties of the linear copolyester. The effect of branching agents on the molecular weight and melt elasticity of the branched copolyester was examined. The branched copolyesters prepared by adding over 15 mol% of branching agent showed relatively high molecular weight and melt elasticity, and $T_{1/2}$ value of $140^{\circ}C$. Therefore, the highly branched copolyesters were deemed suitable as a hot-melt toner of laser print process.
A new stochastic process is introduced for describing a mechanism of viruses. The process generalizes the $Bartoszy\'{n}ski's$ process ($Bartoszy\'{n}ski$, 1975a, 1975b, 1976) by allowing the stochastic perturbation between consecutive jumps to take into account the persistent infection (the infection without breaking infected cells). It is shown that the new process can be obtained by a weak limit of a sequence of Markov branching processes. Along with the construction of the new process, we study how the stochastic perturbation influences the risk of a symptom in an infected host. For this purpose, the quantal response model and the threshold model are investigated and compared through their induced survival functions.

Two-photon resonant third photon ionization of atomic bromine $(4p^5\;^2P_{3/2}\;and\;^2P_{1/2})$ has been studied using a photoelectron imaging spectroscopy in the wavelength region 250 - 278 nm. The technique has yielded simultaneously both relative branching ratios to the three levels of $Br^+(^3P_2,\;^3P_{0.1}\;and^1D_2)$ with $4p^4$ configuration and the angular distributions of outgoing photoelectrons. The product branching ratios reveal a strong propensity to populate particular levels in many cases. Several pathways have been documented for selective formation of $Br^+(^3P_2)$ and $Br^+(^3P_{0.1})$ ions. In general, the final ion level distributions are dominated by the preservation of the ion core configuration of a resonant excited state. Some deviations from this simple picture are discussed in terms of the configuration interaction of resonant states and the autoionization in the continuum. The photoelectron angular distributions are qualitatively similar for all transitions, with a positive $A_2$ anisotropy coefficient of 1.0-2.0 and negligible $A_4$ in most cases, which suggests that the angular distribution is mainly determined by the single-photon ionization process of a resonant excited state induced from the third photon absorption.
An unconstrained three-dimensional cutting problem describes the process of finding the cutting pattern that yields the maximum total profit-sum for the small parallelepipeds pieces cut from a large parallelepiped box and there is no limit to the number of pieces to be cut. The problem is a classic NP-hard. The bottom-up approach, which generates all of the feasible cutting patterns by combining two other cutting patterns, can be applied to the three-dimensional problem. We introduce a build and new branching strategies for the unconstrained three-dimensional cutting problem. The strategies are all generalized from the branching strategies proposed by G et at. to solve unconstrained two-dimensional cutting problems.

This paper proposes an index structure which is used to process X-Path on S-XML data. There are many previous index structures based on tree structure for X-Path processing. Because of general tree index's top-down query fashion, the unnecessary node traversal makes heavy access and decreases the query processing performance. And both of the two query types for X-Path called single-path query and branching query need to be supported in proposed index structure. This method uses a combination of path summary and the node indexing. First, it manages hashing on hierarchy elements which are presented in tag in S-XML. Second, array blocks named path summary array is created in each node of hashing to store the path information. The X-Path processing finds the tag element using hashing and checks array blocks in each node to determine the path of query's result. Based on this structure, it supports both single-path query and branching path query and improves the X-Path processing performance.

The branched polypropylene (b-PP) was prepared by melt blending process with initiator, antioxidant, and functional monomers to improve the melt strength through the melt grafting. The melt flow index (MFI) of the b-PP was increased with increasing the initiator content. On the introduction of the alkylamine as the branching agents the MFI of the b-PP was increased, while that of the b-PP with the pentaerythritol triacrylate (PT) was decreased. It may be caused by the chain scission of the i-PP backbone due to the reduced thermal stability of the i-PP on the melt blending. The MFI of the b-PP without the antioxidant was increased due to the chain scission occurred during the melt processing, while on the introduction of the antioxidant, the MFI of the b-PP was decreased. The crystallization temperature of the b-PP was higher than that of PP, which was attributed to the branched chain structure. It was found that the PT was the most effective functional monomers for enhancing the melt properties of the b-PP.
