  • The efficient Viterbi decoder that supports full data-rate output of DAB system was proposed. Viterbi decoder consumes lots of computational load and should be designed to be fast specific hardware. In this paper, SST scheme was adopted for Viterbi decoder with puncturing to reduced the power consumption. Puncturing vector tables are modified and re-arranged to be designed by a hardwired logic to save the system area. New re-scaling scheme which uses the fact that the difference of the maximum and minimum of the path metric values is bounded is proposed. The proposed re-scaling scheme optimizes the wordlength of path metric memory and greatly reduces the computational load for re-scaling by controlling MSB of path metric memory. Another saving of computation is done by proposed algorithm for branch metric calculation, which makes use of pre-calculated metric values. The designed Viterbi decoder was synthesized using SAMSUNG 0.35$\mu$ standard cell library and occupied small area and showed lower power consumption.

  • Energy constraint of wireless sensor networks makes energy saving and prolonging the network lifetime become the most important goals of routing protocols. In this paper, we propose an Energy Efficient Chain-based Routing Protocol (EECRP) for wireless sensor networks to minimize energy consumption and transmission delay. EECRP organizes sensor nodes into a set of horizontal chains and a vertical chain. Chain heads are elected based on the residual energy of nodes and distance from the header of upper level. In each horizontal chain, sensor nodes transmit their data to their own chain head based on chain routing mechanism. EECRP also adopts a chain-based data transmission mechanism for sending data packets from the chain heads to the base station. The simulation results show that EECRP outperforms LEACH, PEGASIS and ECCP in terms of network lifetime, energy consumption, number of data messages received at the base station, transmission delay and especially energy${\times}$delay metric.

  • We propose an improved partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) detector with the branch value compensation of Viterbi decoder for asymmetric high-density optical channel. Since the compensation value calculated by a survival path is applied to each branch metric, it reduces the detection errors by the asymmetric channel. The proposed PRML detection scheme improves the detection performance on the $2^{nd},\;3^{rd}\;and\;4^{th}$ order PR targets for asymmetric optical recording channel.

  • The full Viterbi detector for EPRML read channel system needs large area due to complex computation. There are several conventional methods to reduce the complexity such as GVA(Generalized Viterbi Algorithm) and BMS(Branch Metric Shift). This paper proposes another method, FVD(Folding Viterbi Detector), that has state transition diagram folded with inverted states. Compared with GVA detector, FVD requires only 61% gates and has lower power consumption and better BER performance.

  • Let X be a compact metric space, B be a unital commutative Banach algebra and ${\alpha}{\in}(0,1]$. In this paper, we first define the vector-valued (B-valued) ${\alpha}$-Lipschitz operator algebra $Lip_{\alpha}$ (X, B) and then study its structure and characterize of its maximal ideal space.

  • In this paper, we designed a Viterbi decoder with constraint length K=7, code rate R=1/2, encoder generator polynomial (171, 133)$_{8}$. This decoder makes use of 3-bit soft decision. We designed the Viterbi decoder using VHDL. We employed conventional logic circuit instead of ROM for branch metric units(BMUs) to reduce the number of gates. We adopted fully parallel structures for add-compare-select units(ACSUs). The size of the designed decoder is about 200, 000 gates.s.

  • The class of isotropic almost complex structures, J𝛿,𝜎, define a class of Riemannian metrics, g𝛿,𝜎, on the tangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold which are a generalization of the Sasaki metric. This paper characterizes the metrics g𝛿,0 using the geometry of tangent bundle. As a by-product, some integrability results will be reported for J𝛿,𝜎.

  • Space-time coding and modulation exploit the presence of multiple transmit antennas to improve performance on multipath Rayleigh fading channels. In this paper, we propose the Trellis-Coded Differential Space Time Modulation-OFDM system with multiple symbol detection. The Trellis-code perform the set partition with unitary group codes. The Viterbi decoder containing new branch metrics is introduced in order to improve the bit error rate (BER) in the differential detection of the Unitary differential space time modulation. Also, we describe the Viterbi algorithm in order to use this branch metrics. Our study shows that such a Viterbi decoder improves BER performance without sacrificing bandwidth and power efficiency.

  • Background: Self-reported low back pain (LBP) has been evaluated in relation to material handling lifting tasks, but little research has focused on relating quantifiable stressors to LBP at the individual level. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Composite Lifting Index (CLI) has been used to quantify stressors for lifting tasks. A chemical exposure can be readily used as an exposure metric or stressor for chemical risk assessment (RA). Defining and quantifying lifting nonchemical stressors and related adverse responses is more difficult. Stressor-response models appropriate for CLI and LBP associations do not easily fit in common chemical RA modeling techniques (e.g., Benchmark Dose methods), so different approaches were tried. Methods: This work used prospective data from 138 manufacturing workers to consider the linkage of the occupational stressor of material lifting to LBP. The final model used a Bayesian random threshold approach to estimate the probability of an increase in LBP as a threshold step function. Results: Using maximal and mean CLI values, a significant increase in the probability of LBP for values above 1.5 was found. Conclusion: A risk of LBP associated with CLI values > 1.5 existed in this worker population. The relevance for other populations requires further study.

  • In this paper, the Viterbi decoder containing new branch metrics of the squared Euclidean distance with multiple order phase differences is introduced in order to improve the bit error rate (BER) in the differential detection of the trellis-coded MDPSK-DFDM. The proposed Viterbi decoder is conceptually same as the sliding multiple phase differential detection method that uses the branch metric with multiple phase differences. Also, we describe the Viterbi algorithm in order to use this branch metrics. Our study shows that such a Viterbi decoder improves BER peformance without sacrificing bandwidth and power efficiency. Also, the proposed algorithm can be used in the single carrier modulation.
