  • In this article, the static behavior of non-prismatic sandwich beams composed of functionally graded (FG) materials is investigated for the first time. Two types of beams in which the variation of elastic modulus follows a power-law form are studied. The principle of minimum total potential energy is applied along with the Ritz method to derive and solve the governing equations. Considering conventional boundary conditions, Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind are used as auxiliary shape functions. The formulation is developed within the framework of well-known Timoshenko and Reddy beam theories (TBT, RBT). Since the beams are simultaneously tapered and functionally graded, bending and shear stress pushover curves are presented to get a profound insight into the variation of stresses along the beam. The proposed formulations and solution scheme are verified through benchmark problems. In this context, excellent agreement is observed. Numerical results are included considering beams with various cross sectional types to inspect the effects of taper ratio and gradient index on deflections and stresses. It is observed that the boundary conditions, taper ratio, gradient index value and core to the thickness ratio significantly influence the stress and deflection responses.

  • This paper deals with the static analysis of axially functionally graded rectangular plates. It is assumed that the flexural rigidity of the plate varies exponentially along one of the plate's in-plane dimensions. Both an analytical approach and a numerical method are utilized to solve the problem. The analytical solution is obtained by using the Green's function method. To employ this approach, the adjoint boundary value problem is established. Then, exact solutions for deflection of the plate for different boundary conditions are found. In another way, a finite element formulation for the problem is developed. In order to demonstrate the validity of the Authors' formulation, the results obtained via both mentioned schemes are compared with each other for functionally graded plates and with results of previously published works for homogeneous plates. The effect of plate parameters on the response of the plate is also investigated. To remind the research background, a brief review on the application of Green's function method in plates' analysis and functionally graded plates is also presented.

  • In this paper, we study the following nonlinear problem: $$\{-\Delta_{p}^{3}(x)u\;=\;{\lambda}V_{1}(x){\mid}u{\mid}^{q(x)-2}u\;in\;{\Omega},\\u\;=\;{\Delta}u\;{\Delta}^{2}u\;=\;0\;on\;{\partial}\Omega, $$ under adequate conditions on the exponent functions p, q and the weight function V1. We prove the existence and nonexistence of eigenvalues for p(x)-triharmonic problem with Navier boundary value conditions on a bounded domain in ℝN. Our technique is based on variational approaches and the theory of variable exponent Lebesgue spaces.

  • In this paper, Electromagnetic scattering problem by a resistive strip grating with 2 dielectric layers on a ground plane according as resistivity of resistive strip, relative permittivity and thickness of dielectric layers, and incident angles of a electric wave is analyzed by applying the PMM (Point Matching Method) known as a numerical procedure. The scattered electromagnetic fields are expanded in a series of floquet mode functions. The boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown field coefficients and the resistive boundary condition is used for the relationship between the tangential electric field and the electric current density on the strip. According as the relative permittivity and the thickness of layers are increased, the values of the geometrically normalized reflected power have a high value and the values of strip width are moved toward a high value going from left to right. When the resistivity of this paper has a value of zero, the numerical results of the geometrically normalized reflected power show in good agreement with those by the PMM of existing paper. Then, the most energys of the sharp variation point in minimum values of the geometrically normalized reflected power are scattered in direction of the other angles except incident angle.

  • This study was conducted to quantitatively analyze the temporal change of green space network at multi-scales from 1975 to 2006 with the application of graph theory in Seoul, Korea. Remarkable change of connectivity was detected in green space networks at the scale ranging from 1,000 ~ 1,600 m during 30 years. Green spaces and their networks have been restoring after 1990 since forest areas had been fragmented in 1975. In 2006, we identified the important core habitat areas that can sustain diverse wildlife species and stepping stones composed of small patches that can link these core habitat areas. Green spaces showed high correlation with the relative importance value of green space connectivity. So, this study could graphically represent green space networks of Seoul City. Green spaces of core areas distributed at the northern and southern boundary, and those of stepping stones possessing the high value of betweenness centrality consisted at the middle, eastern and western boundary. These results indicate that green space network can be graphically and quantitatively explained by degree centrality, betweenness centrality and relative importance value of connectivity with the application of graph theory.

  • In this paper, in order to increase the production efficiency of the industrial plant, and predicts the resources of the manufacturing process, we have proposed a decision-making system for resource implementing the risk management effectively forecasting and risk management. A variety of information that occurs at each step efficiently difficult the creation of detailed process steps in the scenario you want to manage, is a frequent condition change of manufacturing facilities for the production of various products even within the same process. The data that is not contiguous products production cycle also not constant occurs, there is a problem that needs to check the variation in the small amount of data. In order to solve these problems, data centralized manufacturing processes, process resource prediction, risk prediction, through a process current status monitoring, must allow action immediately when a problem occurs. In this paper, the range of change in the design drawing, resource prediction, a process completion date using a regression algorithm to derive the formula, classification tree technique was proposed decision system in three stages through the boundary value analysis.

  • In this paper, the friction drag force of 3D submerged body is investigated by considering the surface roughness, the first grid height, and the Reynolds number using open CFD source code, OpenFOAM 4.0. A procedure for estimating drag components by CFD code is set up and suggested in this study. In the 3D submerged body, because of the form factor in the 3D computations, the friction resistance with the small roughness of $12{\mu}m$ obtains different result with the smooth wall. As the Reynolds number increased, the boundary layer becomes thinner and the fiction resistance tends to decrease. In the computations for the effect of y+, the friction resistance and wall shear stress are excessively predicted when the y+ value deviates from the log layer. This is presumably because the boundary layer becomes thicker and the turbulence energy is excessively predicted in the nose due to the increase in y+ value. As the roughness increases, the boundary layer becomes thicker and the turbulence kinetic energy on the surface increases. From this study, the drag estimation method, considering the roughness by numerical analysis for ships or offshore structures, can be provided by using the suggested the y+ value and surface roughness with wall function.

  • The image binarization is applied frequently as one part of the preprocessing phase for a variety of image processing techniques such as character recognition and image analysis, etc. The performance of binarization algorithms is determined by the selection of threshold value for binarization, and most of the previous binarization algorithms analyze the intensity distribution of the original images by using the histogram and determine the threshold value using the mean value of Intensity or the intensity value corresponding to the valley of the histogram. The previous algorithms could not get the proper threshold value in the case that doesn't show the bimodal characteristic in the intensity histogram or for the case that tries to separate the feature area from the original image. So, this paper proposed the novel algorithm for image binarization, which, first, segments the intensity range of grayscale images to several intervals and calculates mean value of intensity for each interval, and next, repeats the interval integration until getting the final threshold value. The interval integration of two neighborhood intervals calculates the ratio of the distances between mean value and adjacent boundary value of two intervals and determine as the threshold value of the new integrated interval the intensity value that divides the distance between mean values of two intervals according to the ratio. The experiment for performance evaluation of the proposed binarization algorithm showed that the proposed algorithm generates the more effective threshold value than the previous algorithms.

  • In this paper, we intend to establish the judgement of electrical fire through analysis of PT(Potential Transformer) using the power installation. The columnar structure and the void generated by abrupt heat grew at the tenter of boundary-face on the metallurgical microscope analysis. The detection of OK lines was confirmed by EDX(Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) as melting and recombination due to the layer-short of the wiring. We found that the thermal-weight decrease occurred at 300$^{\circ}C$ in case of being the thermal-deterioration on the base of the result that analyzed the insulated-materials by using TGA, and the thermal reaction limited-value of PT insulator was about 300$^{\circ}C$ on the DSC curve. As this analysis, we confirmed what the layer-short appeared in the wiring of PT.
