Enhanced Boundary Partition Color Descriptor for Deformable Object Retrieval (비정형객체 검색을 위한 향상된 분할영역 색 기술자)

  • The paper presents a new way of visual descriptor for deformable object retrieval on the basis of partition based description. The proposed descriptor technology partitions a given object into boundary area and interior area and extracts a descriptor from each area. The final descriptor combines these descriptors. From a given image, deformable object is segmented. The center position of the deformable object is calculated. The object is partitioned into N × N blocks on the basis of the given center position. Blocks are classified as boundary area and interior area depending on the pixels in the block. The proposed descriptor consists of extracted MPEG-7 dominant descriptors from both the boundary and interior area. The performance of proposed method is tested on a database of 1,973 handbag images constructed with view point changes. ARR (Average Retrieval Rate) is used for the retrieval accuracy of the proposed algorithm, compared with MPEG-7 dominant color descriptor.

  • This paper deals with the linear quadratic optimal regulator problem for descriptor systems without performing a preliminary transformation for a descriptor system. We derive a generalized Riccati differential equation (GRDE) based on the two-point boundary value problem for a Hamiltonian equation. We then obtain an optimal feedback control and the optimal cost in terms of the solution of GRE. A simple example is included.

  • In this paper, we propose an iris recognition system using Homogeneous Texture descriptor of MPEG-7 standard. The texture of iris is generally used in iris recognition system. We segment the pupil with Hough transform and the boundary of iris with it's gray level difference between the white of the eye. To extract Homogeneous Texture descriptor, this iris image is transformed into polar coordinates. The extracted descriptor is then compared with the reference in DB. If their distance is larger than threshold, they are recognized as different iris. Test results will show that Homogeneous Texture descriptor can be a good measure for iris recognition system.

  • In this paper, we will present a method to detect human hand and recognize hand gesture. For detecting the hand region, we use the feature of human skin color and hand feature (with boundary complexity) to detect the hand region from the input image; and use algorithm of optical flow to track the hand movement. Hand gesture recognition is composed of two parts: 1. Posture recognition and 2. Motion recognition, for describing the hand posture feature, we employ the Fourier descriptor method because it's rotation invariant. And we employ PCA method to extract the feature among gesture frames sequences. The HMM method will finally be used to recognize these feature to make a final decision of a hand gesture. Through the experiment, we can see that our proposed method can achieve 99% recognition rate at environment with simple background and no face region together, and reduce to 89.5% at the environment with complex background and with face region. These results can illustrate that the proposed algorithm can be applied as a production.

  • The MOST network, which is a network for vehicle infotainment network, requires efficient channel allocation to provide multimedia service effectively. Though there is a study on channel allocation according to network traffic as studies on channel allocation for MOST network, there have scarcely been studies on channel allocation according to bandwidth of multimedia for transferring. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the channel allocation method which calculates the number of channels by analyzing multimedia data for transferring and assigns the optimal number of channels for the given data. The proposed method reduces wasting of channels by optimally allocating channels and prevents initializing network due to change of Boundary Descriptor.

  • In this paper, a new fast detection and clutter rejection method is proposed for CCD-image-based Automatic Target Detection System. For defence application, fast computation is a critical point, thus we concentrated on the ability to detect various targets with simple computation. In training stage, 1D template set is generated by regional vertical projection and K-means clustering, and binary tree structure is adopted to reduce the number of template matching in test stage. We also use adaptive skip-width by Correlation-based Adaptive Predictive Search(CAPS) to further improve the detecting speed. In clutter rejection stage, we obtain Fourier Descriptor coefficients from boundary information, which are useful to rejected clutters.

  • The examples that used camera in the vehicle is increasing with the growth of the automotive market, and the importance of the image processing technique is expanding. In particular, the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and related technologies are under development in various fields. In this paper, in order to improve the lane recognition rate more than the conventional method, we extract a Normalized Luminance Descriptor value and a Normalized Contrast Descriptor value, and adjust image gamma values to modulate Normalized Image Quality by using the correlation between the extracted two values. Then, we apply the Hough transform using the optimized accumulator cells to the four-channel ROI. The proposed algorithm was verified in 27 frame/sec and $640{\times}480$ resolution. As a result, Lane recognition rate was higher than the average 97% in day, night, and late-night road environments. The proposed method also shows successful lane recognition in sections with curves or many lane boundary.

  • In this paper, to provide the robustness of character recognition, we propose a recognition method using the dilated boundary curve feature which has the invariance characteristics for the shift, scale, and rotation changes of character pattern. And its some characteristics and effectieness are evaluated through the experiments for both the english alphabets and the numeral digits. The feature vector is represented by the fourier descriptor for a boundary curve of the dilated character pattern which is generated by the circular mask dilation method, and is used for a nearest neighbort classifier(NNC) or a nearest neighbor mean classifier(NNMC). These the processing time and the recognition rate, and take also the robustness of recognition for both some internal noise and partial corruption of an image pattern.

3D Medical Image Segmentation Using Region-Growing Based Tracking (영역 확장 기반 추적을 이용한 3차원 의료 영상 분할 기법)

  • In this paper. we propose a semi-automatic segmentation algorithm to extract organ in 3D medical data by using a manually segmentation result in a sing1e slice. Generally region glowing based tracking method consists of 3 steps object projection. seed extraction and boundary decision by region growing. But because the boundary between organs in medical data is vague, improper seeds make the boundary dig into the organ or extend to the false region. In the proposed algorithm seeds are carefully extracted to find suitable boundaries between organs after region growing. And the jagged boundary at low gradient region after region growing is corrected by post-processing using Fourier descriptor. Also two-path tracking make it possible to catch up newly appeared areas. The proposed algorithm provides satisfactory results in segmenting 1 mm distance kidneys from X-rav CT body image set of 82 slices.

Object Recognition by Fourier Descriptor (푸리에 서술자를 이용한 물체 인식)

  • Fourier Descriptors(FD) is a common way for representing the boundary of an object. In this paper, an algorithm has been implemented to do object recognition by using FD. This is applied to various tool object, and is tested. This implementation contains two parts: image acquisition and object recognition. Appropriate lighting, viewing angle, and strong contrast of background and object are taken into account in this aspect. Minimum distances are calculated by using FD's and boundary matching among objects on the process of object recognition. Rotation, translation and scaling of the object will not influence the performance of the algorithm. Experiments show that we can use only one fourth of 1024 FD coefficients to do raped object recognition.
