  • Climate change and global warming are the biggest challenges of the current generation. Every industry has contributed to the climate change and global warming. Even the apparel industry cannot avoid the criticism regarding fast fashion and its contribution to the pollution. The transition to the decarbonized economy is in progress. All aspects of business functions are influenced by climate change. Sustainable development and climate change are closely linked, and business plays the key role in addressing and finding solutions to the challenges of climate change. Luxury brands are the trendsetters and tastemakers. They are the leaders in the fashion industry and therefore responsible for improving on sustainability as well. Even luxury business cannot avoid environmental issues. The relation between luxury and sustainability is explored with the Burberry case based on the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) framework. There are various ways for luxury brands to excel in sustainability and affect other companies' practices. The companies can incorporate the concept of sustainability in their brand stories as part of the branding process. They can also improve demand planning accuracy and produce upcycled goods. Centering on Burberry's case, this paper aims to explore the current sustainable practices of luxury business along with its future direction toward sustainable development. Its contribution and directions for both researchers and business practitioners are discussed.

  • Grounding line of a glacier or ice shelf where ice bottom meets the ocean is sensitive to changes in the polar environment. Recent rapid changes of grounding lines have been observed especially in southwestern Antarctica due to global warming. In this study, ERS-1/2 and Sentinel-1A Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image were interferometrically acquired in 1996 and 2015, respectively, to monitor the movement of the grounding line in the western part of Ronne Ice Shelf near the Antarctic peninsula. Double-Differential Interferometric SAR (DDInSAR) technique was applied to remove gravitational flow signal to detect grounding line from the interferometric phase due to the vertical displacement of the tide. The result showed that ERS-1/2 grounding lines are almost consistent with those from Rignot et al. (2011) which used the similar dataset, confirming the credibility of the data processing. The comparison of ERS-1/2 and Sentinle-1A DDInSAR images showed a grounding line retreat of $1.0{\pm}0.1km$ from 1996 to 2015. It is also proved that the grounding lines based on the 2004 MODIS Mosaic of Antarctica (MOA) images and digital elevation model searching for ice plain near coastal area (Scambos et al., 2017), is not accurate enough especially where there is a ice plain with no tidal motion.

  • This study investigates issues in relation to text segmenting, in particular, line breaks in Korean language textbooks. Research on L1 and L2 reading has shown that readers process texts by chunking (grouping words into phrases or meaningful syntactic units) and, therefore, phrase-cued texts are helpful for readers whose syntactic knowledge has not yet been fully developed. In other words, it would be important for language textbooks to avoid awkward syntactic divisions at the end of a line, in particular, those textbooks for beginners and intermediate level learners. According to our analysis of a number of major Korean language textbooks for beginner-level learners, however, many textbooks were found to display line-breaks of awkward syntactic division. Moreover, some textbooks displayed frequent instances where a single word (or eojeol in the case of Korean) is split between different lines. This can hamper not only learners' learning of the rules of spaces between eojeols in Korean, but also learners' development in automatic word recognition, which is an essential part of reading processes. Based on the findings of our textbook analysis and of existing research on reading, this study suggests ways to overcome awkward line-breaks in Korean language textbooks.

  • A three-dimensional hydrodynamic-ecosystem model was developed and applied to Chinhae Bay which is located in the southeastern sea of Korea. The model includes a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model and an eutrophication model, and the model operates on the same grid system. The agreement between predicted and measured results is reasonably encouraging. The concentrations of the calculated COD, DIN and DIP are appeared to be very high due to the phytoplankton production and the wastewater input in the northern part of Chinhae Bay. Anoxic and hypoxic water masses in the bottom layer occur in the northern part of the bay due to the excess loading of wastewater and strong stratification, and in the western inner part of the bay due to high oxygen consumption in densely populated aquaculturing facilities. DO concentration contours show parallel to the bay entrance line, which means the importance of supplying DO by physical process from the mouth of the bay. Although both the hydrodynamic and biochemical processes play important role to form the hypoxic waters in the bottom of the inner bay, it is suggested that the hydrodynamic conditions such as the vertical and the horizontal eddy diffusivity are primarily important factors.

  • Sustainability in fashion pertains to all stages within the product lifecycle, starting with the procurement of raw materials and ending with the disposal of the product. To clarify, the Lifecycle Management (LCM) views the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) from the perspective of a product's lifecycle. Sustainable products are identified based on their lifecycle, causing public attention to turn towards Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). As of now, PLM is largely known to have a strong impact on New Product Development (NPD). As such, the objective of this research is to study how PLM-based sustainable NPD models, when applied to the fashion industry, can produce a wide understanding of sustainable fashion products from a variety of angles. In order to achieve the research objective, this study did a selective case study on 20 sustainable fashion brands; conducted 1:1 in-depth interviews with 24 fashion experts, including both sustainable and non-sustainable experts; and took part in participant observation of 5 sustainable fashion brands. The results of the study indicate that there are specific conditions that must be met at each stage of production for the development of sustainable products by fashion brands. However, due to the lack of technological skills and the dearth of sustainability experts within the organization, management, monitoring and systematic collection of data is not properly implemented - leading to problems with the quantification of crucial data. This study aims to further forward the debate regarding the development of sustainable fashion products and its future implications.

  • In the power system, the transformer's neutral earth reactor line 1 grounding failure may occur. By limiting the magnitude of the failure grounding current flow, it will aid to reduce the failure of the transformer. Consequently, this also may avoid the failure of the disconnection of the industrial insulator line that cause by melting. Besides, utilizing the decreasing circuit breaker or others related equipment can use to avoid the possibility of explosion of the transformer. If the failure happen during the operation of the power system, a huge interference will definitely may occur. Therefore, by installing the DONGBUSAN S/S #3M.Tr neutral earth reactor among TOP and BOTTOM BRACE part in the power system, the causes of the rising temperature and reason of the over-current flow that cause by over-current can be analyze.

  • In this paper, we propose the algorithm that automatically measures the height of the object to move on the base plane by using the geometric information. To extract a moving object from real-time images creates the background image and each pixel is modeled by the three values. The extracted region is represented by cardboard model and calculates the coordinate center in the each part. The top and bottom point of an object are extracted by the calculated coordinate center and an iterative computation. The two points, top and bottom, are used for measuring the height. Given the vanishing line of the ground plane, the vertical vanishing point, and at least one reference height in the scene; then the height of any point from the ground may be computed by specifying the image of the point and the image of the vertical intersection with the ground plane at that point. Through a confidence valuation of the height to be measured, we confirmed similar actual height and result in the simulation experiment.

  • Noise reduction has become a major issue of the duct air-conditioners. This paper describes the reduction of noise and vibration of rotational slim duct system. The design of slim duct system is the most important point of noise reduction in terms of the motor of 2f line noise, resonance noise between forced frequency and natural frequency of Sirocco fan, unbalance noise of motor axis and the noise induced refrigerant. The noise of duct system is mainly measured from diffuser and bottom of duct. The optimal design was implemented after measuring the effect of noise and vibration in each part which is composed of duct system. In this paper, experimental results show that the main elements in air-conditioner duct design. These elements are anti-vibration rubber of motor, axis length of motor, rubber coupler, materials of sirocco fan and control method of motor which are the most vital factors in reducing noise.
