Mass Production of High-Quality Bonsai through Development of Bottom Irrigation System (저면관수식(底面灌水式) 분상설비(盆上設備)에 의한 고품질(高品質) 분재(盆栽)의 대량생산(大量生産))

  • This study was conducted to cultivate a large quantity of high-quality Bonsai through the development of bottom irrigation system. Bonsai placed on the FRP bed were grown very well by bottom irrigation system compared with direct watering and sprinkler system. It was concluded that bottom irrigation system was possible to reduce considerable manual labor and produce mass production of high-quality Bonsai.

  • There have been some problems of high labor. low productivity in the existing systems of bonsai cultivation. This study was conducted to cultivate a large quantity of hig-quality bonsai through the development of bottom irrigation system and management method. Bonsai placed on the FRP bed were grown very well by bottom irrigation system compared with direct watering and sprinkler system. It was concluded that bottom irrigation system was possible to reduce considerable manual labor and produce mass production of high-quality bonsai within shorter periods. This research was finally found that the growth was significantly better and earlier production was certain in the vinyl house, had another advantage which could cultivate less cold-resistant species and therefore broadened a range of species selection for market supply. Cultivation techniques by the use of vinyl house and bottom irrigation system developed was quite effective for early production of bonsai as well as for high productive and value added. This project developed a new practical techniques and systems which can make mass and early production of bonsai with high quality through input of less labor. Interest in bonsai is now expanding in landscape horticulture and other fields concerned, and bonsai export of our country is also increasing. Results from this research will make a great contribution to enhancing of bonsai cultivator's competitive position in world markets and to improving of their annual income.

Effects of Pot Size and Bottom Irrigation Interval on the Growth of Cyrtomium falcatum in Greenhouse Cultivation (화분크기 및 관수간격이 도깨비고비의 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was carried out to find out proper pot size and bottom irrigation interval for the flowerpot cultivation of Cyrtomium falcatum, 3 different pot sizes (5, 7, 10cm in diameter) and 3 irrigation interval (1 day, 3 days, 5 days) were treated by completely randomized design with 3 replications. Growth characteristics of Cyrtomium falcatum were investigated every 30 days after planting. The pot size of 7 to 10cm in diameter and the irrigation interval of 5 days appeared to be appropriate for Cyrtomium falcatum cultivation.

  • This study is to make plans for perpendicular greening with artificial ground of planter type to improve urban environment. The experiments of this study are performed to find out the suitable soil and irrigation method for artificial ground of planter greening. Thereupon, organic or inorganic soil improvement material is mixed with soil of each planter as experiment, In result, the plants in soil mixed organic soil improvement material thrive rather than that in soil mixed inorganic material, It is to be desired that the planter equip with the irrigation system, be wider than planter and be planted shrubs for positive plant growth. As for irrigation system, drip irrigation is effective on plant growth southern exposure but Ebb and Flow is effective eastern exposure. Therefore, irrigation system should consist of two types above plus keeping water on the bottom of planter to save water and store rainwater.

  • The study was carried out to investigate the dimension of irrigation canal, and measure the water flow of those diverted from Kimje main canal in Dongjin irrigation area. The rating curves indicating the relationships between water level and discharge of the lateral canals were induced using the measured data with high regression coefficients of 0.957~0.999 at inlet points and 0.932~0.998 at end points, respectively. And Manning's roughness coefficients were estimated as the ranged from 0.015 to 0.074 at inlet points and 0.056 to 0.089 at end points with rectangular type of concrete open irrigation canals, the Manning's roughness coefficients of the end points were less than those values of the end points, which may be considered as the deposition of the bottom sediments.

  • This study was carried out to check the possibility of substituting bottom ash from the Seosan power plant for sand as growing media for creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera L.) under saline irrigation condition. Characteristics of growing media were evaluated by using column and leaching method. Creeping bentgrass cv. Pen-A1 was grown in pots with dredged up sand (DS) and bottom ash (BA) media those were amended using 1%, 2%, and 3 % OM rates in a green house. The plants were irrigated with 1.5 $dSm^{-1}$ saline water. Results showed that visual quality, plant height and shoot dry weight from DS treatment were higher than those of BA treatment. Even though BA contained more salts, repeated leaching could decrease ECe efficiently. In case of no OM amendment, the visual quality, plant height and shoot dry weight were similar between in BA and DS. Amendment of 2% OM increased the height of creeping bentgrass in DS, while decreased the plant growth in BA.

  • Floating-type automatic turnout was developed for the purpose of reducing labor cost and labor-working hours related to turnout management. The point of automation is to use a flexible-float within the turnout. The weight of float is changed by emptying and filling with water at the beginning and ending of irrigation. The turnout is controlled to open and close small bole on the float bottom using electromagnets. With the weight control of float. the gate of turnout is opened by the empty float to begin irrigatiom and is closed by the filled float to stop irrigation. The turnout was designed to be operated by the main computer and to minimize electric power consumption by sending an electric current at the beginning and ending of irrigation. The functional experiment was succesfully carried out and the rating curves for both free overflow condition and submerged flow condition were derived.

  • In this article we developed the environment-friendly arrangement system of drainage and irrigation canal. It is divided into the model which considers ecological conservation type, irrigation flood control type and hydrophilic type. In canal plan and design we will consider vertical section and intersection plan, water quality management, waterside environment construction plan, canal terminal treatment, canal bottom plan, etc. Consequently, We propose the detail contents which must be considered when we plan the environmental canal space.
