Isothermal activation annealing was carried out using boron doped SLS poly-using an RTA system. We observed different behavior of reverse annealing depending on the implantation conditions.
Wetting properties between silver-copper-titanium braze alloys with different titanium contents up to 2.8 mass% and hexagonal boron nitride ceramics were investigated using sessile drop method at 1123K in Argon. The final contact angle is less than $30^{\circ}$ when the Ti content was over 0.41 mass%. Meanwhile, the contact angle curves show different behavior. In case of using braze alloy containing 2.8 mass% of titanium, the initial contact angle is acute angle just after the melting of braze. In case of brazes containing titanium less than 2.26 mass%, the contact angle is larger than $90^{\circ}$ at the beginning and slowly decreases to acute angle. The reaction layer of titanium nitride is observed at the interface. In addition, the reaction of Ti in the braze and N in the bulk h-BN seemed to show diffusion limited spreading.

This paper examines the effect of nitride formation on formability for Cu bearing high strength extra low carbon (ELC) steel sheets. For this purpose, we have investigated the effect of addition of aluminium (Al) and boron (B) on texture and precipitation behavior of the ELC steel during continuous annealing. Mechanical properties and microstructures of the ELC steel sheets were analyzed as well using uni-axial tensile test, electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) technique and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) following pilot rolling and continuous annealing. It has been found that the addition of Al and B increases the precipitation of AlN and BN. What is more, the scavange of solute nitrogen is effective in increasing the formability of the ELC steels. In addition, the Al and B addition improves the aging property of the ELC steel.
Multi-layer ceramic composites were prepared by tape casting followed by hot pressing using silicon nitride layer with silicon nitride whiskers, silicon nitride layer with silicon carbide particles and boron nitride-alumina layer. The whiskers were aligned during the casting. As the whisker content of the silicon nitride layer was increased up to 10 wt%, the flexural strength of the multi-layer composite was increased. However, further increase of the whisker content in the layer resulted in a rapid decrease of the strength of the composite. The results suggest that the strength of multi-layer ceramic composite showing non-catastrophic failure behavior can be significantly improved by incorporating the aligned whiskers in the layers.

Stress behavior was studied to investigate the internal behaviors of boron, carbon, and nitrogen in the 1000${\AA}$-thick tungsten boron carbon nitride (W-B-C-N) thin films. The impurities in the W-B-C-N thin films provide stuffing effects that were very effective for preventing the interdiffusion between interconnection metal and silicon substrate during the subsequent high temperature annealing process. The resistivity of W-B-C-N thin film decreases as an annealing temperature increase. The W-B-C-N thin films have compressive stress, and the stress value decreased up to $4.11\times10^{10}dyne/cm^2$ as an $N_2$ flow rate increases up to 3 sccm.
Multi-layer composites consisting of silicon nitride, silicon nitride-silicon carbide and boron nitride-alumina layers were prepared fly stacking the corresponding ceramic tapes. The composites demonstrated self-diagnostic capability and non-catastrophic failure behavior. The composites consisting of many thin layers exhibited high strength and stepwise increase of the electrical resistance during the flexure test. The strength of the composite with too thick silicon nitride layers was low and the electrical resistance was abruptly increased to the detection limit of the digital multi-meter during the test. An extensive crack branching was observed in the weak (BN + Al$_2$O$_3$)layer.

The effect of B on the hot ductility of Fe-29Ni-17Co Kovar alloy and the mechanism of high temperature deformation behavior were investigated. Hot-tensile test was carried out at the temperature range of $900^{\circ}C-1200^{\circ}C$. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate the microstructure and fracture during hot deformation. The hot ductility of Kovar alloy was drastically increased with the addition of Boron. The improvement of hot ductility results from the grain boundary migration mainly due to the dynamic recrystallization at lower temperature range($900^{\circ}C$).
In this study, reciprocating wear tests are performed on AISI 52100 bearing steel to investigate its tribological behavior in a hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) water solution. The h-BN-based aqueous lubricant is prepared using an atoxic procedure called ultrasonic sonication in pure water. Ball-on-flat reciprocating sliding experiments are conducted, where the ball is slewed on a fixed flat at 50-㎛ displacement. The lubricating behavior of h-BN is compared with that of deionized (DI) water. Results show that the friction coefficient is higher in h-BN testing than that in DI tests, but the results are equalized as the friction coefficient reaches a stable level. Scanning electron microscopic images reveal significant material loss in the center and mild abrasion on the edge of the wear scar in h-BN tests. However, these effects are minor in DI water situations. The results of energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy show that considerable oxidation occurs in the central zone of the wear scar in h-BN cases with strong adhesion and material removal. These findings reveal the importance of determining ideal circumstances that can tolerate material friction and wear.
Brazing of Fe-Cr-Al alloy was carried out at $1200^{\circ}C$ in vacuum furnace using nickel-based filler metals : BNi-5 powder(Ni-Cr-Si-Fe base alloy} and MBF-50 foil (Ni-Cr-Si-B). The effect of boron content on the stability of oxide scale on the brazed joint was investigated by means of cyclic oxidation test performed at $1050^{\circ}C$ and $1200^{\circ}C$. Apparently, the joints brazed with MBF-50 containing boron showed relatively stable oxidation rates compared to boron-free BNi-5 at both temperatures. However, it was considered that the slower weight loss of MBF-50 brazed specimen wasn’t resulted from the low oxidation rate but from the spallation of oxide layer. The oxide layer consisted of thick spinel oxide on the surface and $Al_2 O_3$ internal oxide layer along the interface between mother alloy and braze, the mother alloy was also eroded seriously by the formation of spinel oxides such as $FeCr_2 O_4$ and $NiCr_2 O_4$ on the surface, likely to be induced by the change of oxide forming mechanism due to diffusion of boron from the braze. On the contrary, the joint brazed with BNi-5 showed the good oxidation resistance during the cyclic oxidation test. It seems that the oxidation can be retarded by the formation of stable $Al_2 O_3$ layer at the surface.
The effect of heat treatment on the micro-structures and the mechanical properties of 0.002% boron added low carbon steel was investigated. The tensile strength reached the peak at about $880-890^{\circ}C$ with the rising quenching temperature and then the hardness decreased sharply, but the tensile strength hardly decreased. The tensile and yield strength decreased and the total elongation increased with a rising tempering temperature, but the tensile and yield strength sharply fell and the total elongation prominently increased from above a $400-450^{\circ}C$ tempering temperature. Tempered martensite embrittlement (TME) was observed at tempering condition of $350-400^{\circ}C$. In the condition of quenching at $890^{\circ}C$ and tempering at $350^{\circ}C$, the boron precipitates were observed as Fe-C-B and BN together. The hardness decreased in proportion to the tempering temperature untill $350^{\circ}C$ and dropped sharply above $400^{\circ}C$ regardless of the quenching temperature.
