In this paper, we present the results of an experimental study on the effect of polymer support fluid on shaft resistance of offshore bored piles. A series of pullout tests were performed on bored piles installed under various boundary conditions considering different types of grounds and support fluids, and a range of support fluid exposure times. Contrary to previous studies concerning onshore bored piles, a time dependent effect of polymer fluid on shaft resistance was observed in all ground types. The adverse effect of polymer support fluid on the shaft resistance, however, was considerably less than bentonite support fluid for a given exposure time. No significant reduction in shaft resistance was evident when limiting the exposure time of the polymer support fluid to the side wall of the borehole within 2-3 hours. The degree to which the polymer fluid affects shaft resistance seemed to vary with the ground type. A proper consideration should be given to the time dependent effect of polymer fluid on shaft resistance of bored piles installed in offshore construction environment to limit its adverse effect on the pile performance. The practical implications of the findings are discussed.
The bored pile is widely used as a low noise and vibration piling method in Korea. However, there is design tendency to minimize the friction capacity of the bored pile because of uncertainty and the quality control specification is not set up. This research analysed the strength characteristics of cement paste after the uniaxial compression test with various condition. Test results show that the compressive strength of cement paste with w/c=0.83 was up to $156.0kgf/cm^2$, and the lower w/c ratio and the longer age, the strength of cement paste increased. Also the higher soil mixing ratio, the strength of soil cement decreased, and too high soil mixing ratio caused the malfuction of soil cement. Also this research analysed the 188 dynamic pile test results which were performed before and after hardening of cement paste. Analysis result showed that the average ultimate unit friction capacity was $9.1tf/m^2$ and this result surpassed the common design criteria of the bored pile.

The limit states design method is replacing the allowable stress design method worldwide, e.g. the design code of ISO and various construction codes of Korea are adopting the reliability based limit state method. This paper proposed LRFD design value which is one of limit states design method for the PHC bored pile used as building foundation. This paper analysed 81 load test results and the bearing design(Meyerhof method & SPT-CPT conversion method), and proposed LRFD value for each design reliability Index 2.33 and 3.0 for PHC bored pile. LRFD value of PHC bored pile represents 0.36~0.44 for Meyerhof method and 0.24~0.31 for SPT-CPT conversion method according to the deign reliability index.
In order to investigation Lateral bearing capacity of bored-precast pile, we carried out the analysis of the relationship between Lateral load and horizontal displacement using the result of horizontal pile load test. The six piles injected cement milk of 50%, 70% and 100% of the embedded length of pile were used in the horizontal pile load test. The horizontal displacement, yielding load and horizontal bearing capacity are mainly affected by The injecting ratio of cement milk (injected length of cement milk/embedded length of pile). As the injecting ratio of cement milt is increased, the starting point of horizontal displacement in piles become close to the ground surface and the amount of horizontal displacement is decreased. Also, the horizontal bearing capacity and yielding load are highly increased with increasing the ration of cement milk. The horizontal bearing capacity and yielding load of bored pile with 1 of cement milk ratio are about two or three times those of pile with 0.5 of cement milk ratio.

Large diameter bored pile was selected as the foundation type for Taipei 101. The pile construction method and specific construction procedures were determined based on the results of trial installation and pile load tests. The baseline for foundation design was established using the friction versus depth characteristics of each ground layer obtained from the pile load tests. As the ground profile and depth to the top of rock formation varied significantly on this site, the pile length, bearing capacity and settlement for single pile were analyzed using the information interpreted from adjacent boreholes. The post grouting at pile tip was mandatory for pile construction. Nevertheless, it was treated as a measure reducing the influence of construction uncertainties and providing extra safety for the foundation system.
The cement paste is mostly used as the filling materials of bored pile in Korea. The use of filling material based on cement paste is inefficient at field construction because it needs a lot of the charging mass. In addition, it has environmental problem according to the large amount of cement use because its strength is also larger than criterion. The excavated soil with stabilizer can be used as the filling materials when the bored pile is constructed. Therefore, this paper describes field application of solidified soil for economical efficiency and environment-friendly. The injection capacity of solidified soil is compared with cement paste's based on unconfined compressive strength test and field load test, and the appropriate of test results is evaluated by design criterion. The evaluation result shows that the capacity of excavated soil with stabilizer is similar to cement paste and the solidified soil is able to apply as filling materials of bored pile because it is satisfied with design criterion.

In accordance with Korean structural foundation design standards, dynamic or static load tests are mandated for 1 to 3% of total piles. The construction quality of the remaining 97% to 99% of piles is determined through penetration measurements. This study aims to enhance the quality control of the majority of piles by adopting a pile driving formula that considers both penetration and hammer energy. The current challenge lies in adapting existing overseas driving formulas to the domestic site conditions, characterized by shallow weathered or soft rocks, and the prevalent use of pre-bored piles. To address this, the Modified Gates formula was refined using domestic dynamic load data, thereby improving its applicability to pile management. Despite employing fewer variables, the proposed formula demonstrates a comparable accuracy to dynamic loading tests in predicting the bearing capacity of pre-bored piles. Consequently, this formula holds promise for practical use in future pile quality management.
In this study, dynamic centrifuge tests in dry sand were conducted in order to evaluate the effect of pile installation on the dynamic p-y curve. According to the result of the pile installation effect on the dynamic p-y backbone curves, the subgrade resistance of a jacked pile in 40 g was found to be greater than that of a jacked pile in 1 g and a preinstalled pile in 1 g. It was also found that differences of the subgrade resistance decrease with the depth of the pile. Applicability of dynamic p-y backbone curve for the bored pile proposed by preceded researcher was evaluated by comparing with the result of centrifuge tests. In addition, dynamic p-y backbone curve for jacking/driven pile was developed by modifying that for the bored pile.

Two design examples of deep foundations for high-rise buildings on soft ground are introduced in this paper. The first one is a 54-story building in Ho-Chi-Minh city, Vietnam, which was designed to be founded on $2.8m{\times}1.0m$ barrette foundations with approximately 60m to 75m depth. Based on a number of design guides and existing load test data from the construction sites in Ho-Chi-Minh city, the capacity of a barrette foundation in sand or clay layered ground was calculated to be 17.2MN to 27.8MN depending on the installing depth. The second one is a 40-story building in Baku city, Azerbaijan, which was designed to be supported by 2.0m diameter bored pile foundations with approximately 23m depth. As analytical or empirical guides for the local ground conditions were very limited, the design procedure from the SNiP Code, one of Russian specifications, was adopted and used to calculate the pile capacity. The capacity of bored pile foundation in highly weathered soil was expected to be 14.8MN to 15.5MN depending on the boring depth.

Bi-directional load test is one of O-cell tests. The O-cell test is a system which may be used for performing static load tests on cast in situ reinforced concrete bored piles. The technique was devised and developed by Osterberg of Northwestern University(USA) and has been in use around the world. The principle of the method is that an O-cell is installed in a cast in situ bored pile base. Once the pile concrete reaches its design strength the cell is connected to an hydraulic pump and pressured. Pressurisation causes the cell to expand, developing an upward force on the section of pile above the cell loads, pile movements and strains within the pile then enable the capacity of the pile and its load settlement curves to be ascertained. Bi-directional load tests using O-cell are now becoming common practice around the world, particularly where the loads to be applied are high or where it is not convenient to perform top-down loading tests. In the study, calculate ultimate capacity of bi-directional load test using FEM and beam on elasto-plastic foundation theory.
