메탄올의 감마선 분해에 대한 첨가물의 영향 (Effect of Additives on Gamma Radiolysis of Methanol)

  • Effect of Added 1-hexene on the yield of hydrogen produced from Co-60 gamma radiolysis of methanol was investigated at room temperature. The results indicated that the yield of hydrogen decreased rapidly with increasing 1-hexene concentrations. Effect of added methyl borate on the radiolysis of methanol was also studied in the presence of oxygen. The results revealved that methyl borate acted as a less effective scavenger than oxygen towards the precursors of the radiolysis products. Experimental data previously obtained on the systems with oxygen added were treated more quantitatively to re-examine mechanism of the radiolysis of methanol in detail.

Aggregation of Crystal Violet with Tetraphenylborate Anions in Aqueous Solutions

  • The hydrophobic interaction between tetraphenylborate (TPB$^-$) or tetrakis (4-fluorophenyl)borate (TFB$^-$) and crystal violet has been investigated in aqueous solutions by absorption spectrophotometry. Both of the anions promote the aggregation of the ion pairs formed between crystal violet and TPB$^-$ or TFB$^-$. When crystal violet and borate anion are nearly equimolar, insoluble floating aggregates can be observed. Based on the relative absorbance of H and J bands and on the effect of TX-100, TFB$^-$ is found to be more hydrophobic than TPB$^-$.

  • The ion aggregates formed between cationic triphenylmethane dyes and tetraphenylborate(TPB) or tetrakis(4-fluorophenyl) borate (TFB) anions have been investigated spectroscopically. The photometric sensitivities of the dyes are found to be increasing in the order pararosaniline < malachite green < methyl violet 2B < crystal violet < ethyl violet. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB) and Triton X-100(TX-100) destroy the ion aggregates. By comparing the concentration of surfactant beyond which dye-borate mixed solutions behave identically with the dye blank, the order of hydrophobicity appears to be parallel with that of photometric sensitivity.

  • Borate 완충용액에서 Al의 부식과 부동화에 관하여 변전위법, 대 시간 전류법 그리고 다중 주파수 전기화학적 임피던스 측정법으로 조사하였다. 공기 또는 산소의 영향은 환원과정에 영향을 주었지만 산화반응에는 영향을 미치지 못 하는 것으로 보인다. 부동화 영역에서 생성되는 피막의 전기적 성질은 Mott-Schottky 식이 적용되는 n-type 반도체 성질을 보였다. 낮은 전극전위에서 생성되는 Al의 산화피막은 Al(OH)3로 충분한 부동화 효과를 보이지 못하나, 전극전위가 증가하면서 Al2O3로 변하였다. Al2O3 피막은 “전기장에 의한-이온의 이동” 과정에 의하여 성장하는 것으로 보인다.

Lithium Bis(oxalate)borate as an Electrolyte Salt for Supercapacitors in Elevated Temperature Applications

  • The electrolyte plays one of the most significant roles in the performance of electrochemical supercapacitors. Most liquid organic electrolytes used commercially have temperature and potential range constraints, which limit the possible energy and power output of the supercapacitor. The effect of elevated temperature on a lithium bis(oxalate)borate(LiBOB) salt-based electrolyte was evaluated in a symmetric supercapacitor assembled with activated carbon electrodes and different electrolyte blends of acetonitrile(ACN) and propylene carbonate(PC). The electrochemical properties were investigated using linear sweep voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge cycles, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. In particular, it was shown that LiBOB is stable at an operational temperature of $80^{\circ}C$, and that, blending the solvents helps to improve the overall performance of the supercapacitor. The cells retained about 81% of the initial specific capacitance after 1000 galvanic cycles in the potential range of 0-2.5 V. Thus, LiBOB/ACN:PC electrolytes exhibit a promising role in supercapacitor applications under elevated temperature conditions.

솔비나무 유래 렉틴의 정제 효율 (Purification Efficiency of a Lectin from Maackia fauriei)

  • We previously reported the isolation of a sialic acid-specific lectin eluted from the bark of Maackia fauriei using alkaline buffer on a fetuin-affinity column. Application of a borate-based elution buffer in the present study increased the specific activity of purified lectin from crude protein extract by 2.6-fold, whilst only slightly decreasing the recovery by 1.13%. The biological properties of the lectin eluted with borate buffer were the same as those of the lectin eluted with alkaline buffer such as in terms of the hemagglutination activity, hemagglutination inhibition activity, molecular mass, purity, and cytotoxicity to human breast cancer cells. A prepared biotin-labeled lectin conjugate was used to investigate the binding to various glycoproteins. Our results indicate that eluting with borate buffer is more efficient than using alkaline buffer to isolate the lectin adsorbed in a fetuin-affinity column.

Growth, structure and SHG properties of Li, Mo-containing huntite-borates $YbAl_3(BO_3)_4$

  • $Li^+$$Mo^{6+}$를 포함하는 huntite borates $YbAl_3(BO_3)_4$는 자발적인 결정화 방법에 의해 성장하였으며, 이들 결정은 X선회절 분석방법에 의해 huntite-borate 구조를 갖고 있음을 알수 있었다. 또한 구조 및 조성분석을 실시함에 따라 이들 양이온이 huntite 구조내에서 어떤 위치를 점유할 수 있는지에 대해 검토하였으며, 성장 huntite borate 결정의 분말을 사용한 SHG효과의 관찰에 의해 녹생광의 SHG강도는 $Li^+$$Mo^{6+}$를 포함한 $YbAl_3(BO_3)_4$$YAl_3(BO_3)_4$보다 6배 이상 높음을 알 수 있었다.

용탕단조법으로 제조된 AZ91 Mg/Al Borate 휘스커 복합재료의 미세조직 및 기계적 특성 (Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Squeeze Cast AZ91 Mg/Al Borate Whisker Composites)

  • This study aims at investigating the correlation of microstructure and mechanical properties of the AZ91 Mg/Al borate whisker composites fabricated by squeeze csting technique with a variation of applied pressure. Microstructure observation and in-situ fracture tests were conducted on the composites to identify the microfracture process. Detailed microstructural analyses indicated that the grain refinement could be achieved with applied pressure and the little change in volume fraction on reinforcing whiskers could be carried out. It was also found clearly from in-situ observation of crack initiation and propagation that in the composite processed by the lower applied pressure, microcracks were initiated earily at whisker/matrix interfaces, thereby resulting in the drop in strength. In the composite processed by the higher applied pressure, on the other hand, planar slip lines were well developed in the matrix, and then propagated through whiskers without whisker/matrix decohesion. Thus, the effect of the applied pressure on microstructure and mechanical properties can be explained by grain refinement, increased amounts of reinforcements, and improvement of whisker/matrix interfacial strength as the applied pressure in increased.
