Conventional Piezoelectric Energy Harvesters (CPEH) have been extensively studied for maximizing their electrical output through material selection, geometric and structural optimization, and adoption of efficient interface circuits. In this paper, the performance of Stepped Piezoelectric Energy Harvester (SPEH) under harmonic base excitation is studied analytically, numerically and experimentally. The motivation is to compare the energy harvesting performance of CPEH and SPEHs with the same characteristics (resonant frequency). The results of this study challenge the notion of achieving higher voltage and power output through incorporation of geometric discontinuities such as step sections in the harvester beams. A CPEH consists of substrate material with a patch of piezoelectric material bonded over it and a tip mass at the free end to tune the resonant frequency. A SPEH is designed by introducing a step section near the root of substrate beam to induce higher dynamic strain for maximizing the electrical output. The incorporation of step section reduces the stiffness and consequently, a lower tip mass is used with SPEH to match the resonant frequency to that of CPEH. Moreover, the electromechanical coupling coefficient, forcing function and damping are significantly influenced because of the inclusion of step section, which consequently affects harvester's output. Three different configurations of SPEHs characterized by the same resonant frequency as that of CPEH are designed and analyzed using linear electromechanical model and their performances are compared. The variation of strain on the harvester beams is obtained using finite element analysis. The prototypes of CPEH and SPEHs are fabricated and experimentally tested. It is shown that the power output from SPEHs is lower than the CPEH. When the prototypes with resonant frequencies in the range of 56-56.5 Hz are tested at 1 m/s2, three SPEHs generate power output of 482 μW, 424 μW and 228 μW when compared with 674 μW from CPEH. It is concluded that the advantage of increasing dynamic strain using step section is negated by increase in damping and decrease in forcing function. However, SPEHs show slightly better performance in terms of specific power and thus making them suitable for practical scenarios where the ratio of power to system mass is critical.
A melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) resin, based on 5 percent melamine addition of the resin solids weight, was synthesized in the laboratory for particleboard (PB) manufacture. Laboratory PBs were made with the MUF resin at three press times (3, 4, 5 min) and two resin application rates (6, 8 percent). Enclosed caul system was used for collecting the exhaust gases materials generated during the hot-pressing of PBs. Exhaust gases materials generated inside the enclosed caul during the hot-pressing of PBs were collected in a controlled air stream. Formaldehyde from the exhaust gases collected was determined per a chromotropic method of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Method 3500. The measurement results showed that formaldehyde emissions during the hot-pressing of PB significantly increased with increasing press time, and MUF resin application rates. PB' performance test results showed that internal bond (IB) of PB made with 3-minute press time exceeded the minimum requirement for KS F 3104 PB type 8.0.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the seismic behavior of precast segmental PSC bridge columns with precast concrete footings and to provide the details and reference data. Six precast segmental PSC bridge columns were tested under a constant axial load and a cyclically reversed horizontal load. A computer program, RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. A bonded or unbonded tendon element based on the finite element method, that can represent the interaction between tendon and concrete of prestressed concrete member, is used. A joint element is modified to predict the inelastic behaviors of segmental joints. This study documents the testing of precast segmental PSC bridge columns with precast concrete footings and presents conclusions based on the experimental and analytical findings.
This article provides comprehensive guidance on the maintenance, cleaning, regeneration, and storage of silica-based HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) columns. The general considerations emphasize the importance of using in-line filters and guard cartridges to protect columns from blockage and irreversible sample adsorption. While these measures help, contamination by strongly adsorbed sample components can still occur over time, leading to an increase in back pressure, loss of efficiency, and other issues. To maximize column lifetime, especially with UHPLC (Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography) columns, it is advisable to use ultra-pure solvents, freshly prepared aqueous mobile phases, and to filter all samples, standards, and mobile phases. Additionally, an in-line filter system and sample clean-up on dirty samples are recommended. However, in cases of irreversible compound adsorption or column voiding, regeneration may not be possible. The document also provides specific recommendations for column cleaning procedures, including the flushing procedures for various types of columns such as reversed phase, unbonded silica, bonded normal phase, anion exchange, cation exchange, and size exclusion columns for proteins. The flushing procedures involve using specific solvents in a series to clean and regenerate the columns. It is emphasized that the flow rate during flushing should not exceed the specified limit for the particular column, and the last solvent used should be compatible with the mobile phase. Furthermore, the article outlines the storage conditions for silica based HPLC columns, highlighting the impact of storage conditions on the column's lifetime. It is recommended to flush all buffers, salts, and ion-pairing reagents from the column before storage. The storage solvent should ideally match the one used in the initial column test chromatogram provided by the manufacturer, and column end plugs should be fitted to prevent solvent evaporation and drying out of the packing bed.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the shear bond strength and marginal microleakage of composite to enamel and dentin according to different treatment methods when the applied bonding agent was contaminated by artificial saliva. For the shear bond strength test, the buccal and occlusal surfaces of one hundred twenty molar teeth were ground to expose enamel(n=60) and dentin surfaces(n=60). The specimens were randomly assigned into control and 5 experimental groups with 10 samples in each group. In control group, a bonding system(Scotchbond$^{TM}$ Multi-Purpose plus) and a composite resin(Z-100$^{TM}$) was bonded on the specimens according to manufacture's directions. Experimental groups were subdivided into 5 groups. After polymerization of an adhesive, they were contaminated with at artificial saliva on enamel and dentin surfaces: Experimental group 1 ; artificial saliva was dried with compressed air. Experimental group 2 ; artificial saliva was rinsed with air-water spray and dried. Experimental group 3 ; artificial saliva was rinsed, dried and applied an adhesive. Experimental group 4 ; artificial saliva was rinsed, dried, and then etched using phosphoric acid followed by an adhesive. Experimental group 5, artificial saliva was rinsed, dried, and then etched with phosphoric acid followed by consecutive application of both a primer and an adhesive. Composite resin(Z-100$^{TM}$) was bonded on saliva-treated enamel and dentin surfaces. The shear bond strengths were measured by universal testing machine(AGS-1000 4D, Shimaduzu Co. Japan) with a crosshead speed of 5mm/minute under 50kg load cell. Failure modes of fracture sites were examined under stereomicroscope. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test. For the marginal microleakage test, Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal surfaces of sixty molars. The specimens were divided into control and experimental groups. Cavities in experimental group were contaminated with artificial saliva and those surfaces in each experimental groups received the same treatments as for the shear test. Cavities were filled with Z-100. Specimens were immersed in 0.5% basic fuchsin dye for 24 hours and embedded in transparent acrylic resin and sectioned buccolingually with diamond wheel saw. Four sections were obtained from the one specimen. Marginal microleakages of enamel and dentin were scored under streomicroscope and averaged from four sections. The data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test and Fisher's LSD. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The shear bond strength to enamel showed lower value in experimental group 1(13.20${\pm}$2.94MPa) and experimental group 2(13.20${\pm}$2.94MPa) than in control(20.03${\pm}$4.47MPa), experimental group 4(20.96${\pm}$4.25MPa) and experimental group 5(21.25${\pm}$4.48MPa) (p<0.05). 2. The shear bond strength to dentin showed lower value in experimental group 1(9.35${\pm}$4.11MPa) and experimental group 2(9.83${\pm}$4.11MPa) than in control group(17.86${\pm}$4.03MPa), experimental group 4(15.04${\pm}$3.22MPa) and experimental group 5(14.33${\pm}$3.00MPa) (p<0.05). 3. Both on enamel and dentin surfaces, experimental group 1 and 2 showed many adhesive failures, but control and experimental group 3, 4 and 5 showed mixed and cohesive failures. 4. Enamel marginal microleakage was the highest in experimental group 1 and there was a significant difference in comparison with other groups (p<0.05). 5. Dentin marginal microleakages of experimental group 1 and 2 were higher than those of other groups (p<0.05). This result suggests that treatment methods, re-etching with 35% phosphoric acid followed by re-application of adhesive or repeating all adhesive procedures, will produce good effect on both shear bond strength and microleakage of composite to enamel and dentin if the polymerized bonding agent was contaminated by saliva.

An experimental investigation was carried out to examine the evaporative heat transfer characteristics of R-134a in a micro-channel heat exchanger. The micro-channel heat exchanger used in this study was a sort of plate heat exchanger. Micro-channels were fabricated on the SUS304 plate by the photo-etching process: 13 sheets of plates were stacked and bonded by the diffusion bonding process. The effects of the evaporating temperature, mass flux of R-134a, and inlet temperature of water were examined. As the difference between the inlet temperatures of R-134a and water increased, the heat transfer rate increased. The evaporative heat transfer coefficients obtained in this study range from 0.67 to 6.23 kW/$m^2{\cdot}^{\circ}C$. The experimental correlation for the Nusselt number as a function of the Reynold number and $\Theta$ was suggested for the micro-channel heat exchanger.
This study was conducted to investigate the cooling efficiency and growth of tomatoes by root zone cooling device using a pad-box and cultivated system. The structure of the root zone cooling system using a pad-box was four piece of pads bonded an the side and a fan set at the bottom. Cool wind was generated by the outside air which was punched at intervals of 10 cm along three rows. Cold wind flowed to the root zone in the culture medium. The root zone cooling efficiency of cold wind generation by using a pad-box flowing through a wet-pad was determined. Major characteristic of this cuttural system consist of bed filled with a perlite medium and a ventilation pipe using PVC. The cold wind generation by a pad box (CWP) was compared to that of cold wind generation by a radiator (CWR), cold water circulation using a XL-pipe (CWX) and the control (non-cooling). When the temperature of water supplied was 16.2-18.4$^{\circ}C$, temperatures in the medium were 20.5~23.2$^{\circ}C$ for CWP 22.7~24.2$^{\circ}C$ for CWR, 22.8~24.27$^{\circ}C$ for CWX and 23.1~-29.6$^{\circ}C$ for the control. The results show that the cold wind temperature using the pad-box was lower by 1~2$^{\circ}C$ than that of cold water circulation in the XL-pipe and lower by 5~6$^{\circ}C$ than that of the control. Growth such as leaf length, leaf width, fresh weight and dry weight, was greater in three root zone cooling methods than in the control. Root activity was higher in the rat zone cooling methods than in the control. However, there was no significant difference among root zone cooling methods.

In this study, electrode bonding technology needed for high density of rechargeable battery is studied, which is recently researched for electric vehicle, the small leisure vessel. For the alternative overcoming the limit of stacking amount able to be stacked by conventional ultrasonic welding, the low temperature bonding method, eligible for minimum of degeneration of chemical activator on the electrode surface which is generated by thermal effect as well as the increase of conductivity and tension strength caused by electrode bonding using filler metal, not using conventional direct heating on the electrode material method, is studied. Specifically to say, recently used more generally the ultrasonic welding and spot welding method are not usable for satisfying stable electric conductivity and bonding strength when much electrode is stacking bonded. If the electrical power is unreasonably increased for the welding, due to the effect of welding temperature, deformation of electrode and activating material degeneration are caused, and after the last packaging, decline of electrical output and generating heat cause to reduce stability of battery. Therefore, in this study, induction heating system bonding method using high frequency heating and differentiated electrode method using filler metal pre-treatment of hot dipping are introduced.
Silicon piezoresistive absolute pressure sensor for gas leakage alarm system was developed. This sensor must operate normally in the range of $0{\sim}600\;mmH_{2}O$ pressure, and $0{\sim}100^{\circ}C$ temperature. To make the most of this sensor for gas leakage alarm system, gas must not leak from the sensor itself when the diaphragm of the sensor fractures. Thus, the sealed diaphragm cavity was anodically bonded to pyrex 7740 glass under the condition of $10^{-4}$ torr, at $400^{\circ}C$. The sensitivity of developed sensor was $4.06{\mu}V/VmmH_{2}O$ for $600\;mmH_{2}O$ full-scale pressure range. And temperature compensation method of this sensor is to change bridge-in put-voltage linearly in proportion to the temperature variation by using diode(PXIN4001) or Al thin film resistor. By these methods the temperature effect in the range of $0{\sim}100^{\circ}C$ was compensated over 80 % for offset drift, 95 % for sensitivity.

Experimental and analytical studies on the behavioral characteristics of a pre-stressed (PS) steel girder are conducted to investigate the effects of deviators on the non-linear inelastic properties of the PS system. In this regard, 4 test specimens consisting of a steel H-beam, a straight cable with eccentricity, anchorages, and deviators are built and failure tests are performed under two-point loading. In addition, in-plane elastic deformation theories for the PS system without a deviator, and with three deviators at regular intervals are analytically formulated and solved using a symbolic calculation technique. To verify the validity of the experimental and the proposed analytical theories, the results obtained using FEM models composed of beam elements, rigid beam elements, and truss cable elements, are compared to the experimental results and the analytical solutions. As a result, it is determined that externally installed un-bonded deviators inhibit flexural deformation of the deformed beam to such an extent that their elastic stiffness, and failure strength are significantly improved compared to those of the PS system without deviators.
