The operational efficiency of domestic gas turbine is about 25% and it is now in the trend of the gradual growth in spite of the severe temperature, frequent starting and shutdown according to the environmental management and the energy-efficient use. Rotor bolts of gas turbine in power plants have been the cause of defects because these gas turbines have been operated for a long time under the high pressure and temperature environment experiencing the aging change and stress concentration of the bonded part. The connection parts of the bolt revealed various failure shape and these parts were elongated under very low pressure when operated in the relaxed condition. The cause is in the lack of the metal distribution in the bottle lack area and the cap screw of the bolt is broken totally in case that the nut is fastened in most cases. Gas turbine rotor bolts are connected to the rotor wheel and these bolts caused the vibration, the bulk accident of the rotor in the event that the coupling power among these bolts was relaxed. Therefore, we would like to evaluate the soundness of the main part of the gas turbine rotor bolt through the measurement of the inner condition change along with the mechanic deterioration and temperature, stress in the gas turbine rotor material.

Along with the development of power electronics and magnetic materials, permanent magnet (PM) brushless direct current (BLDC) motors are now widely used in many fields of modern industry BLDC motors have many advantages such as high efficiency, large peak torque, easy control of speed, and reliable working characteristics. However, Compared with the other electric motors without a PM, BLDC motors with a PM have inherent cogging torque. It is often a principle source of vibration, noise and difficulty of control in BLDC motors. Cogging torque which is produced by the interaction of the rotor magnetic flux and angular variation in the stator magnetic reluctance can be reduced by sinusoidal air-gap flux density waveform due to reduction of variation of magnetic reluctance. Therefore, this paper will present a design method of magnetizing system for reduction of cogging torque and low manufacturing cost of BLDC motor with isotropic bonded neodynium-iron-boron (Nd-Fe-B) magnets in ring type by sinusoidal air-gap flux density distribution. An analytical technique of magnetization makes use of two-dimensional finite element method (2-D FEM) and Preisach model that expresses the hysteresis phenomenon of magnetic materials in order for accurate calculation. In addition, For optimum design of magnetizing fixture, Factorial design which is one of the design of experiments (DOE) is used.
The development of a digital signal processor based prototype is described in relation to continuing efforts for realizing a fully self-contained active sensor system utilizing impedance-based structural health monitoring. The impedance method utilizes a piezoelectric material bonded to the structure under observation to act as both an actuator and sensor. By monitoring the electrical impedance of the piezoelectric material, insights into the health of the structured can be inferred. The active sensing system detailed in this paper interrogates a structure utilizing a self-sensing actuator and a low cost impedance method. Here, all the data processing, storage, and analysis is performed at the sensor location. A wireless transmitter is used to communicate the current status of the structure. With this new low cost, field deployable impedance analyzer, reliance on traditional expensive, bulky, and power consuming impedance analyzers is no longer necessary. A complete power analysis of the prototype is performed to determine the validity of power harvesting being utilized for self-containment of the hardware. Experimental validation of the prototype on a representative structure is also performed and compared to traditional methods of damage detection.
Using bonded fiber-reinforced polymer laminates for strengthening wooden structural members has been shown to be an effective and economical method. In this research, properties of suitable composite materials (sika wrap), adhesives and two ways of strengthening beams exposed to bending moment are presented. Passive or slack reinforcement is one way of strengthening. The most effective way of such a strengthening was to place reinforcement laminates in the stretched part of the wooden beam (lower part in our case), in order to investigate the effectiveness of externally bonding FRP to their soffits. The model is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility requirements in and all parts of the strengthened beam, i.e., the wooden beam, the sika wrap composite plate and the adhesive layer. The theoretical predictions are compared with other existing solutions. This research is helpful for the understanding on mechanical behaviour of the interface and design of the composite-wooden hybrid structures. The results showed that the use of the new strengthening system enhances the performance of the wooden beam when compared with the traditional strengthening system.

This paper presents how the load transfer mechanism of the ground anchor affects on the stability analysis of anchored slope. The finite element analysis and the conventional limit equilibrium analysis on the anchored slope were performed and compared. The limit equilibrium analysis of the anchored slope is quite open used in design practice due to the easiness of the analysis. However, the load transfer mechanism is not considered properly for the analysis. When the failure surface passes through the bonded length of an anchor, the anchor load is disregarded and the factor of safety for the anchored slope is smaller than it should be. In this study, the load transfer distribution was incorporated into the limit equilibrium stability analysis of the anchored slope and the results were compared with the results of finite element analysis.
Fabrication possibility of low-shrinkage alumina without oxidation and wetting agent was presented on the basis of observation about oxidation behavior, microstructure and physical characteristics of such reaction agents free Al2O3-Al system. The composition less than Al 10w/o where Al can act as a sintering agent for Al2O3 was excluded. Under the condition of present experiments oxidation of Al2O3-Al system was dependent not on holding time but mainly on oxidation temperature. In thes case of Al powder not comminuted effectively during powder mixing of Al2O3-Al, columnar structure which would act as a hindrance to the densification during sintering developed more during oxidation with higher Al contents, and which made the fabrication of low-shrinkage Al2O3 ceramics impossible. If Al powder was comminuted effectively due to co-mixed Al2O3 characteristics, densification was improved because of no columnar structure and made the fabrication of sintered body with -2.7% dimensional change and 81% relative density possible. As a result, it is possible to fabricate dense low-shrinkage Al2O3 ceramics without oxidation and wetting agent under conditions such as smaller particle size of Al, Al contents below 50v/o, higher green density of Al2O3-Al compact and the use of Al2O3 powder used for high-density ceramics.

In this study the progressive collapse resisting capacity of a RC beam-column subassemblage with and without strengthening was investigated. Total of five specimens were tested; two unreinforced specimens, the one designed as gravity load-resisting system and the other as seismic load-resisting system, and three specimens reinforced with: (i) bonded strand, (ii) unbonded strand, and (iii) side steel plates with stud bolts. The two-span subassemblages were designed as part of an eight-story RC building. Monotonically increasing load was applied at the middle column of the specimens and the force-displacement relationships were plotted. It was observed that the gravity load-resisting specimen failed by fractures of re-bars in the beams. In the other specimens no failure was observed until the maximum displacement capacity of the actuator was reached. Highest strength was observed in the structure with unbonded strand. The test result of the specimen with side steel plates in beam-column joints showed that the force-displacement curve increased without fracture of re-bars. Based on the test results it was concluded that the progressive collapse resisting capacity of a RC frame could be significantly enhanced using unbonded strands or side plates with stud bolts.
This paper represents the development of high sensitivity photo-sensor for the fluorescence detection in the integrated biological analysis system. The finger-type PIN photodiodes were fabricated as the photo-sensor, and had a high sensitivity ($I_{light}/I_{dark}$ = 8720). The interference filter consisted of $TiO_{2}$ and $SiO_{2}$ was directly deposited on the photodiodes. Deposited filter with 95.5% reflection under 532 nm and 98% transmission over 580 nm exceedingly decreased the magnitude of background signal in the detection. The PDMS micro-fluidic channels are bonded on the photodiode by $O_{2}$ plasma treatment. The detection current was proportional to two primary parameters (light intensity, concentration), and the on-chip detection system could detect fluorescence signals down to 100 nM concentration (LOD = Limit of detection of rhodamine).

Delta sash is an important part of automobile door, which has the functions of supporting and guiding seesaw of car's window, preventing dust and air from outside. In previous manufacturing process, each part of the delta sash was independently formed by tandem processes, and rubber is bonded to steel by poisonous glue. So, the previous processes, including roll forming process and toxic gases, had low production rate and high failure rate. In this study, progressive process design of the delta sash was proposed in order to increase productivity and high utilization of the materials. And instead of the poisonous glue used for adhesion of rubber in the previous tandem process, embossing and piercing processes were designed in the new guide to help the rubber to adhere well to steel. And the optimal piercing distance was designed to ensure structural safety, and prototypes were manufactured for verifying reliability of the processes.
The purpose of this study was to ascertain the bonding durability of self-etching dentin bonding agents to dentin by means of shear bonding strength. Several acid-etching dentin bonding system (ESPE Z100) and self-etching dentin bonding systems (DEN-FIL, GRADIA DIRET) were used. The occlusion surface of human molars were ground flat to expose dentin and treated with the etch bonding system according to manufactures instruction and followed by composite resin application. After 24hours of storage at 37$^{\circ}C$, the shear bonding strength of the specimens was measured in a universal testing machine with a 1mm/min crosshead speed. An one-way analysis of variance and the scheffe test were performed to identify significant differences (p<0.05). The bonded interfacial surfaces and treated dentin surfaces were examined using a SEM. Through the analysis of shear bond strength data and micro-structures of dentin-resin interfaces, following results are obtained. In dentin group, the shear bond strength of DEN-FIL showed statistical superiority in comparison to the other groups and followed by ESPE Z100 and GRADIA DIRECT (p<0.05).
