FRP Hybrid Bar, composed of an embedded steel and the coated composites with epoxy and glass fiber, is an effective construction material with tension-hardening performance and lightweight. The epoxy exposed to UV(Ultra Violet Rays) and FT(Freezing and Thawing) action easily shows a surface deterioration, which can cause degradation of bonding strength between inside-steel and outside-concrete. In the present work, surface inspection for 3 different samples of normal steel, FRP Hybrid Bar before UV, and FRP Hybrid Bar after UV test was performed, then concrete samples with 3 reinforcement types were prepared for accelerated FT test. Through visual inspection on 3 typed reinforcement, no significant deterioration like chalking was evaluated. The results from FT test to 120 and 180 cycles showed FRP Hybrid Bar exposed to UV test has higher bonding strength than normal steel by 106.3% due to enlarged bond area by silica coating. The 3 cases showed a similar bond strength tendency with increasing FT cycles, however a relatively big deviations of bond strength were evaluated in FRP Hybrid Bar after UV test due to loss of silica coating.

When reinforced concrete is subjected to high temperature as in fire, there is deterioration in its properties of particular importance are loss in compressive strength, cracking and spalling of concrete, destruction of the bond between the cement paste and the aggregates and the gradual deterioration of the hardend cement paste. Assessment of fire-damaged concrete usually starts with visual observation of color change, cracking and spalling of the surface. In this paper, it was reported the trends of research and practical use on the Explosive Spalling Properties of the High-Strength Concrete.
Reinforced concrete structures are constructed under the basic assumption of perfect bonding between steel and concrete. The corrosion of steel in the reinforced concrete beams results in the excessive cracks and gradual deterioration of concrete. This paper are concerned about the slip characteristics of reinforced concrete between steel and concrete. The accelerated test by external power supply was conducted with the three corrosion rates in the laboratory. As a result, it was obtained as follows: (1) the yield strength of steel was reduced according to corrosion states. (2) the equivalent steel area should be considered for detailed analysis. (3) According to the use of corroded steel or not, slip amounts between concrete and steel in test beams increased as the corrosion rate increased. These results can be explained from the bond loss between concrete and steel in test beams.

Bonded concrete overlay is a favorable maintenance method since the material properties are similar to existing concrete pavements. In addition, bonded concrete overlay has advantage of structural performance based on being bonded together, both for the overlay layer and the existing pavement which perform as one monolithic layer. Therefore, it is important to have a suitable bond strength criteria for long term performance of bonded concrete overlay. This study aimed to investigate the affecting of bond strength on various bond characteristics, and to compare the bond strength between direct tensile test and indirect tensile test due to various conditions such as overlay materials, compressive and flexure strength of existing pavement, and deterioration status of existing pavement. As a result of this study, bond strength occurred by both of direct and indirect tensile test due to monotonic load is highly correlated such as coefficient of determination of 0.75 and P-value of 0.002. However, bond strength by indirect tensile test was relatively higher than bond strength by direct tensile test. It was known that correlation between direct and indirect tensile test was possible to use the characteristics analysis of bond fatigue behavior based on bond strength due to cyclic load which can simulate real field behavior of bonded concrete overlay.

PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to suggest the construction and quality control method for the re-repair of a deteriorated partial depth repair for sections of Portland cement concrete pavement. METHODS : An experimental construction was conducted to extend the repair width for removing an existing repair section. A removal method was used to ensure early performance for a deteriorated partial depth repair section. Bond strength and split tensile strength were measured at the near vertical interface layer between the existing pavement and repair material. The area was analyzed for various conditions such as the extended repair area and the removing method of the existing repair section. RESULTS : As a result of analysis of bond strength and split tensile strength, the bonding performance of a milling removed section was improved over a cutting and hand breaker removed section. The bond strength was analyzed to increase slightly as the extended repair width for removing the existing repair section increased. The split tensile strength did not show a clear relationship to an increased extended repair width of an existing removed repair section. CONCLUSIONS : The milling removal method should be applied in the removal of existing deteriorated partial depth repair sections. The extended repair width for a re-repair section should be wider than the existing partial depth repair with at least a 75-mm length and width for the bond strength and the split tensile strength.

The corrosion of reinforcements embedded in concrete causes severe deterioration in reinforced concrete structures. As a countermeasure, epoxy coated reinforcements are used to prevent corrosion of reinforcements. When epoxy coated bars are used, the resistance of corrosion is excellent, but epoxy coating on the bars have a disadvantage of reduction in bond capacity comparing to that of normal bars. Therefore, it is necessary to confirm the bond performance of epoxy coated reinforcements through experimental and analytical methods. Bond behaviors of epoxy coated bars for various diameters of 13 and 19mm and thicknesses of cover concrete of 3 types(ratio of cover to bar diameter) are examined. As the diameters of the epoxy coated bars increase, the difference of bond strength between epoxy coated and uncoated bars also increases and damage patterns showed pull out failure. In addition, finite element analysis was performed based on the bond-slip relationship obtained by direct pullout test and compared with the flexural test results. It is considered that flexural member test is more useful than pullout test for simulating the behavior of actual structure.

The cost of repairing the deterioration of concrete structures due to corrosion of the reinforcement steel has been the prominent figure in the maintenacne of the reinforced-concrete infrastructures. As an alternative material to steel reinforcement, the use of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) bar in concrete is being actively studied for the high resistance of chemical environment and high strength to weight ratio properties of GFRP. However, there remain various aspects of GFRP properties that still need to be studied before the standard design criteria can be established. One of the imminent issues is the bond between GFRP and concrete. In this study, the bond-behavior of GFRP bars in concrete is investigated via the pullout test with varying parameters: surface condition of GFRP bars and concrete compression strength. And the local bond-stress model of GFRP rabars with applying monotonc load was also derived from the present test.

The introduction of advanced water treatment facilities has increased as the conventional purification method cannot remove the substance clearly. However, the internal waterproofing and Anticorrosion materials of the advanced water treatment facility using ozone deteriorate due to the oxidation power of ozone and affects the concrete, which causes a decrease in durability. This study is to evaluate the ozone resistance according to the type of spray metal and the surface treatment method of the coating, and the bond strength after ozone treatment in order to develope a finishing method to prevent deterioration of concrete structure of water treatment facility using metal spraying method as a way to construct metal panel with excellent ozone resistance and chemical resistance by an easier way than the previous. The Experimental results show that spray metal Ti has superior ozone resistance even after spraying. It is considered to be the most suitable method for ozone resistance and bond performance by finishing using Teflon sealing as surface treatment method.

One of the biggest problems affecting bridges is the transverse cracking and deterioration of concrete bridge decks. The causes of early age cracking are primarily attributed to plastic shrinkage, temperature effects, autogenous shrinkage, and drying shrinkage. The cracks can be influenced by material characteristics, casting sequence, formwork, climate conditions, geometry, and time dependent factors. The cracking of bridge decks not only creates unsightly aesthetic condition but also greatly reduces durability. It leads to a loss of functionality, loss of stiffness, and ultimately loss of structural safety. This investigation consists of field, laboratory, and analytical phases. The experimental and field testing investigate the early age transverse cracking of bridge decks and evaluate the use of sealant materials. The research identifies suitable materials, for crack sealing, with an ability to span cracks of various widths and to achieve performance criteria such as penetration depth, bond strength, and elongation. This paper also analytically examines the effect of a wide range of parameters on the development of cracking such as the number of spans, the span length, girder spacing, deck thickness, concrete compressive strength, dead load, hydration, temperature, shrinkage, and creep. The importance of each parameter is identified and then evaluated. Also, the AASHTO Standard Specification limits liveload deflections to L/800 for ordinary bridges and L/1000 for bridges in urban areas that are subject to pedestrian use. The deflection is found to be an important parameter to affect cracking. A set of recommendations to limit the transverse deck cracks in bridge decks is also presented.
