  • The most fundamental and important medical treatment is science of acupuncture and moxibution, which is based on twelve channels theory. Meridian is a pathway that conveys material and energy in a human body. Twelve channels are divided into channels of hand & foot, channels of yin & yang. Yang channels are divided into taiyang, yangming, shaoyang, yin channels are divided into taiyin, shaoyin, jueyin. These are referred to twelve channels, and this theory is being used for diagnosis and test in oriental medicine. Meridian-doin-tajiquan is born, combining taijiquan which is recently handed down from China and Korean traditional method for health protection and treatment in ancient times and twelve channels, three yin & yang theory. I report this because meridian-doin-tajiquan which is non-medical and non-invasive way can be used in the treatment of disease, just like three yin & yang theory, the heart of the meridian theory, and Gehapchu theory are adjusted in the clinical science of acupuncture and moxibution. And I report this because I could mater the appropriateness of the traditional theory and I believed this corresponded with it, training myself by meridian-din-tajiquan. It is considered that this will be used in the treatment of pain disease of muscles and joints system and the diabetes, hypertension, obesity caused by stress in the near future.

  • This paper seeks the proper and efficient operation of Korea's safeguard mechanism by examining the judicial interpretation and application of the safeguard measures under the WTO Safeguard Agreement. The judicial examination is focused on the terms of "unforeseen development" in GAIT XIX, "evaluation of all relevant factors", and "clear justification of measure" in Safeguard Agreement. Such an intensive examination. of the judicial interpretation is used for the comparative analysis of the Korea's domestic provisions to find out problems in operation and the interpretative and legislative responses to them. It is found that the Korea's adaptation of the Safeguard Agreement into the domestic provisions and the operation of such provisions in the practical field have generally been consistent with the WTO's basic principles and provisions. Korea's safeguard mechanisms should stably be operated for securing the proper protection of domestic industry under certain emerging circumstances. For such policy objective to be ensured, it is legislatively required to make additional provisions in line with the appellate body's consistent interpretations of the debating issues including the term of unforeseen development.

  • This study aimed to identify professional climbers'demand for movement functionality in pants worn for rock climbing and ice climbing. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 12 professional climbers using a semi-constructed questionnaire. The respondents were instructor-level experts whose climbing ability ranged from 5.9 to 5.14 on the Yosemite Decimal System rating scale. The research findings were as follows. Experts wore different climbing pants depending on the type of climbing. For example, they mostly wore high-stretch, second layer pants for rock climbing, while layering first layer, second layer, and third layer pants for ice climbing. There were gender differences regarding the parts of the body in which climbers reported the most discomfort when wearing climbing pants; male climbers most commonly responded 'knees', 'inner thighs' and 'hips' while their female counterparts most commonly responded 'inner thighs', 'exposed back and waist' and 'hips' in that order. Differences were found between rock climbing and ice climbing in terms of wear and tear on pants, preferred fabric properties, and length of pants. Wear and tear was found mainly on the hips and knees of rock climbing pants and on the inner lower hem of ice climbing pants. Listed in the order of preference, the most preferred fabric properties were elasticity, light weight, and durability for rock climbing pants and elasticity, insulation, and protection against water and wind for ice climbing pants. Regarding the length of rock climbing pants, respondents preferred ankle-length pants and cropped pants that did not cover the feet. For ice climbing pants, respondents favored heel-length pants that prevented pieces of ice from entering the clothing. Men showed a high level of preference for ergonomically cut climbing pants. Respondents said the waistband on climbing pants should be simplified so as not to adversely affect climbing maneuvers.

  • Background: Mobile phone has become a very popular device used in everyday our lives. However, the possible hazard to human body such as brain tumor has been proposed intermittently. This unwanted possibility was calmed down due to the absence of definite evidence of hazard. This study was performed to see the effect of mobile phone use on the brain temperature. Methods: In 20 volunteers, we performed 4 steps of temperature measuring procedure. Four steps are pre-use (S1, basal state), wire-phone (S2, conventional telephone), PCS phone (S3, using 1,750~1,900 MHz), cellular phone (S4, using 820 MHz) states. Brain temperatures were measured by radiothermometer at 10 sites (5 sites in each hemisphere) of the brain after 5minutes of telecommunication through the phones. The final data were compared using paired t-test. Results: In PCS phone user group (Average; $35.73708^{\circ}C$), brain temperature decreased (with statistical significance, p<0.05), compared to those of non-user group (Average; $35.9527^{\circ}C$) or conventional wire phone user group. In cellular phone user group (Average; $35.82155^{\circ}C$), brain temperature decreased slightly (without statistical significance, p>0.05) compared to those of non-user group (Average; $35.9527^{\circ}C$) or conventional wire phone user group (Average; $35.922^{\circ}C$). The temperature change was not limited to the mobile phone applied side but on both hemisphere of the brain. Conclusion: In conclusion, mobile phone (especially PCS phone) decreased brain temperature in both hemispheres without side-to-side temperature difference. In addition, this study suggests possibility of radiothermometer application to the study of electromagnetic wave effect and protection method research in the future.

  • Artemisia iwayomogi(A. iwayomogi) is a major edible vegetable in Korea. A iwayomogi containing a strong bitter taste, particularly, is known to manifest an effect on cough, abdominal pain, indigestion and bleeding. In this experiment, ethanol extract of A. iwayomogi(50mg/kg body weight) was fed to growing male Sprague-Dawley rats for four weeks in order to examine the lipid lowering effect of A. iwayomogi in the live and serum. High fat diet included 10% lard, 1% cholesterol and 0.25% sodium cholate. The administration of A. iwayomogi extract decreased serum cholesterol compared with the control. At the same time, serum triglyceride(TG) was decreased to 25%. Although atherogenic index and HTR tended to decrease, phospholipid level in the serum was shown to increase by A. iwayomogi administration. At the same token, total liver lipids were decreased to 40%. The group fed both high fat and ethanol extract showed 28% decrease of liver lipids compared with the group fed only high fat diet. On the other hand, HDL cholesteol level of high fat and extract fed group was increased to 30% compared with the non-extract-fed control. Liver TG also was decreased to about 21% in the extract fed groups. Liver phospholipids, particularly, exceeded more than double of the level of high fat control. The above results indicate than A. iwayomogi exert a strong hypocholesterolemic and hypolipidemic effect which may lead to the protection from hypertention, obesity, stroke and many other circulatory diseases.

  • Man-In-Simulant Test(MIST) provides a test method to evaluate chemical protective equipments such as protective garments, gloves, footwear and gas mask. The MIST chamber is built to control concentration of chemical vapor that has a activity space for two persons. Non-toxic methyl-salicylate(MeS) is used to simulate chemical agent vapor. We carried out to measure inward leakage MeS vapors by using passive adsorbent dosimeter(PAD) which are placed on the skin at specific locations of the body while man is activity according to the standard procedure in MIST chamber. But more time is required for PADs and there is concern of contamination in PADs by recovering after experiment. Therefore detector for measuring in real time is necessary. In order to analyze in real time the contamination of the personal protective equipment inside the chemical environment, we have developed a wireless real-time gas detector. The detector consists of 8 gas-sensors and 1 control-board. The control-board includes a CPU for processing a signal, a power supply unit for biasing the sensor and Bluetooth-chipset for transmission of signals to external PC. All signals from gas-sensors are converted into digital signals simultaneously in the control-board. These digital signals are stored in external PC via Bluetooth wireless communication. The experiment is performed by using protective equipment worn on manikin. The detector is mounted inside protective equipment which is capable of providing a real-time monitoring inward leakage MeS vapor. Developed detector is demonstrated the feasibility as real-time detector for MIST.

  • A bidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode consisting of specially designed $p^--n^{{+}+}-p^-$ multi-junctions was developed using low temperature (LT) epitaxy and fabrication processes. Its electrostatic discharge (ESD) performance was investigated using I-V, C-V, and various ESD tests including the human body model (HBM), machine model (MM) and IEC 61000-4-2 (IEC) analysis. The symmetrical structure with very sharp and uniform bidirectional multi-junctions yields good symmetrical I-V behavior over a wide range of operating temperature of 300 K-450 K and low capacitance as 6.9 pF at 1 MHz. In addition, a very thin and heavily doped $n^{{+}+}$ layer enabled I-V curves steep rise after breakdown without snapback phenomenon, then resulted in small dynamic resistance as $0.2{\Omega}$, and leakage current completely suppressed down to pA. Manufactured bidirectional TVS diodes were capable of withstanding ${\pm}4.0$ kV of MM and ${\pm}14$ kV of IEC, and exceeding ${\pm}8$ kV of HBM, while maintaining reliable I-V characteristics. Such an excellent ESD performance of low capacitance and dynamic resistance is attributed to the abruptness and very unique profiles designed very precisely in $p^--n^{{+}+}-p^-$ multi-junctions.

  • The studies of PMOS transistors in CMOS technologies are reviewed- focusing on the snapback and breakdown behavior of the parasitic PNP BJTs in high current regime. A new failure mechanism of PMOSFET devices under ESD conditions is also analyzed by investigating various I/O structures in a $0.13\;{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. Localized turn-on of the parasitic PNP transistor can be caused by localized charge injection from the adjacent diodes into the body of the PMOSFET, significantly degrading the ESD robustness of PMOSFETs. Based on 2-D device simulations the critical layout parameters affecting this problem are identified. Design guidelines for avoiding this new PMOSFET failure mode are also suggested.
