ICRP 호흡기 및 생체역동학적 모델을 이용한 우라늄 생물분석 결과의 해석 (Interpretation of Uranium Bioassay Results with the ICRP Respiratory Track and Biokinetic Model)

  • 본 연구는 호흡을 통해 우라늄을 만성 또는 급성섭취한 경우 생물분석 결과의 해석을 통해 예탁유효선량을 평가하는 실질적인 방법을 기술하고 있다. 인체에서의 우라늄 거동의 해석을 위해 인체의 장기를 ICRP에서 권고하는 소화기 모델, 호흡기 모델 그리고 생체역동학적 모델에 따라 일련의 수학적 격실로 구성하였다. Birchall의 알고리듬을 이용하여 각 격실에서의 균형방정식의 해석적인 해를 얻었으며 우라늄의 소변 배설함수와 폐 잔류함수를 획득하였다. 소변 중 우라늄 농도와 폐 계수기로 측정된 폐 부하량에 각각 배설 및 잔류함수를 적용하여 섭취모드에 따른 초기 섭취량 또는 총 섭취량을 계산하였다. 예탁유효선량은 ICRP 78에서 제공하는 선량 환산계수를 계산된 섭취량에 적용함으로써 평가된다.

  • 캡슐 내시경 시스템은 최소 침습적 방법으로 의료진이 환자의 소화기관 검사를 수행할 수 있는 혁신적 기술로 최근 주목 받는 융합 기술이다. 일단 환자가 비타민 알약 크기의 캡슐을 삼키면, 캡슐 내 무선 또는 인체통신 모듈에 의해 전송된 영상정보를 바탕으로 의료진은 캡슐 내시경 진단 시스템을 통해 혈액 이상, 용종, 궤양, 크론병 등 다양한 질환을 진단할 수 있다. 캡슐 내시경은 기존의 케이블 내시경을 대신할 수 있는 혁신 기술이지만 정확한 병증 진단 및 분석 소요 시간 측면에서 단점을 가지고 있다. 즉, 캡슐 내시경은 캡슐내의 소형 카메라를 이용하여 6~12만 프레임의 방대한 양의 정지 영상을 촬영하기 때문에 촬영된 영상을 의료진이 확인하고 정확한 병변을 분석하는데 오랜 시간이 걸린다. 따라서 캡슐 내시경 시스템은 빠른 병변 진단을 위한 도구 및 정확한 병변 진단을 위한 의료 이미지 영상 처리가 필수 요소이다. 본 논문에서는 캡슐 내시경 시스템의 주요 제조사들을 중심으로 거의 알려져 있지 않은 소화기 영상의 빠른 병변 진단 도구에 대한 최근 경향과 정확한 병변 검출을 위한 의료 영상 처리 기술의 최신 동향을 분석하였다.

에어로빅복의 유니버설 디자인을 위한 동작 적합성 평가 (An Evaluation of Aerobic Exercise Wear Mobility as a Basic Criterion for Universal Design)

  • This study compared and studied the clothing mobility of two types of aerobic clothes - those made of currently popular stretch materials and those made of new stretch materials that were specially developed for this study. The focus of the comparison was on the range of joint movement during activity, and the physiological burden imposed on the body by the clothes. In total, 18 experiments were carried out under controlled conditions in an artificial climatic chamber with a temperature of $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, air humidity of $60{\pm}5^{\circ}C$ and negligible air movement. Each exercise program consisted of a 30-minute of aerobic workout and a 20-minute rest following the exercise. Measurements were taken to determine the following: physiological reactions (whole-body and local sweat rates), subjective sensations(of temperature, humidity, comfort, tightness, and clothing wetness), joint angle(measured with a goniometer), and so on. The results of the study us as follows: Material B excels in clothing mobility. Material C excels in sweat absorbency and drying speed. Material A was found to be the hottest material, while material C was found to be slightly hot through the analysis of the change in pre- and post-exercise bodyweight(= amount of sweat). Regarding the amount of evaporated sweat, material A>material C>material B. Material B produced the smallest amount of evaporated sweat. The wider the range of joint movement, the smaller the amount of sweat and the lower the average skin temperature.

여성한센인의 삶에 관한 생애사 연구 (A Biographical Research on Lives of Korean Women with Leprosy)

  • 이 연구는 여성한센인의 삶을 깊이 이해할 목적으로 수행된 것으로, 생애사 연구방법을 활용하였다. 이를 위해 여성한센인을 심층인터뷰한 결과, '천형과의 만남', '개미 같은 몸에 황소 같은 업보', '잦아드는 촛불'의 주제묶음이 도출되었다. 여성한센인은 발병 후 사회적 편견과 차별로부터 생존을 위해 강제 수용되었으며, 수용시설에서의 비인격적인 대우를 받으며 여성으로서의 결혼, 임신, 육아의 기회를 박탈당하였다. 치료 후에도 몸의 추형에 따른 사회로부터의 상대적 격리를 감수하면서, 피맺힌 서러움을 지닌 채 숨은 듯 살아가고 있었다. 한편으로는 차별과 배제로 일관된 한 많은 일생과 여전히 준비되지 않은 죽음을 바라보며 또 다시 체념하는 불안한 모습도 관찰되었다. 이 연구는 그동안 드러나지 않았던 여성한센인의 삶을 있는 그대로 내부자적 관점에서 드러냄으로서, 그들의 삶에 관한 총체적 이해에 유용한 기초자료가 될 것으로 본다.

심혈관질환위험 중년여성 대상 일상생활기반 신체활동강화프로그램의 효과 (Effects of a Daily Life-Based Physical Activity Enhancement Program for Middle-Aged Women at Risk for Cardiovascular Disease)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a daily life-based physical activity enhancement program performed by middle-aged women at risk for cardiovascular disease. Methods: This study used a randomized control group pretest-posttest design. Middle-aged women aged 45 to 64 were recruited from two outpatient cardiology departments, and randomly assigned to an experimental group (n=28) and a control group (n=30). For the experimental group, after providing one-on-one counseling and education, we provided customized text messages to motivate them in daily life. To monitor the practice of physical activity, they also used an exercise diary and mobile pedometer for 12 weeks. Subjects' physical activities (MET-min/week) were measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Their physiological data were obtained by blood tests using a portable analyzer, and the data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0/WIN program. Results: There were significant differences in exercise self-efficacy, health behavior, IPAQ score, body fat, body muscle, and fasting blood sugar between the two groups. However, there were no significant differences in total cholesterol, hemoglobin A1c, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and waist-to-hip ratio. Conclusion: Strengthening physical activity in daily life without being limited by cost burden and time and space constraints. Therefore, it is essential to motivate middle-aged women at risk for cardiovascular disease to practice activities that are easily performed in their daily lives.

Comparison of eating habits and inappropriate weight control efforts of secondary school students enrolled in a weight control program

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Numerous school-based weight control programs have been initiated for weight loss among adolescents. However, the relationship between these programs and inappropriate weight control efforts, dietary habits and behavior of students, have not been investigated sufficiently. This study was undertaken to investigate the association between body mass index (BMI) of adolescents, and their health status and inappropriate weight-control efforts. We further examined the relationship between attendance to school-based weight-control programs and attempting inappropriate weight-control efforts, dietary habits, and behavior. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A survey of 1,742 students was conducted in Korea. Logistic regression was used to assess differences in the health status (grouped by BMI and improper weight control) and dietary habits, based on attendance to the weight-control programs. RESULTS: Obese students were significantly more dissatisfied with physical, mental and spiritual health. Students who attended weight-control programs were likely to be underweight (P < 0.001), whereas those who did not attend weight-control programs were likely to attempt weight control improperly (P < 0.001). Students who participated in the program also had relatively healthy dietary habits (P < 0.001-0.027), and students who did not attend had comparatively unhealthy dietary habits (P < 0.001-0.008). Students who attended weight-control programs were likely to be underweight (P < 0.001) with relatively healthy dietary habits (P < 0.001-0.027), whereas students who did not attend the programs were likely to attempt weight control improperly (P < 0.001) and had comparatively unhealthy dietary habits (P < 0.001-0.008). CONCLUSIONS: Attending school-based weight-control programs was significantly associated with not attempting inappropriate weight-control efforts, as well as following healthy dietary habits. Our data indicates that offering school-based weight-control programs is valuable to student health, and is anticipated to reducing the public health burden.

휴식과 운동 중 COVID-19 대응 보건용 마스크 착용이 호흡·심혈관계 반응 및 착용감에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Wearing COVID-19 Protective Face Masks on Respiratory, Cardiovascular Responses and Wear Comfort During Rest and Exercise)

  • This study explores the effects of facemasks on respiratory, thermoregulatory, cardiovascular responses during exercise on a treadmill and at rest. Five male subjects (25.8 ± 0.8 y, 171.8 ± 9.2 cm in height, 79.8 ± 28.1 kg in weight) participated in the following five experimental conditions: no mask, KF80, KF94, KF99, and N95. Inhalation resistance was ranked as KF80 < KF94 < N95 < KF99 and dead space inside a mask was ranked as KF80 = KF94 < N95 < KF99. The surface area covered by a mask was on average 1.1% of the total body surface area. The results showed no significant differences in body core temperature, oxygen consumption (VO2), carbon dioxide production (VCO2), heart rate or subjective perception among the five experimental conditions; however, cheek temperature, respiratory ventilation and blood pressure were greater for KF80 or KF94 conditions when compared to KF99 or N95 conditions (p<0.05). The differences among mask conditions are attributed to the dead space or specific designs (cup type vs pleats type) rather than the filtration level. In addition, the results suggest that improving mask design can help mitigate respiratory resistance from increased filtration.

폐경증상 관리를 위한 중년 여성의 신체활동 참여 경험: 현상학적 연구 (Middle-aged women's experiences of physical activity for managing menopausal symptoms: a phenomenological study)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to comprehensively understand and describe the meaning of physical activity for managing menopausal symptoms in middle-aged women. Methods: This study targeted middle-aged women with menopausal symptoms who participated in regular exercise at least three times a week for more than 12 weeks. Nine participants were individually interviewed via in-depth face-to-face interviews, and participatory observation was also employed. Colaizzi's phenomenological qualitative research method was applied for analysis. Results: Participants were asked, "What does it means to participate in physical activity at this time of your life?" Fourteen codes, six themes, and three theme clusters were derived for the meaning of physical activity for managing menopausal symptoms these middle-aged women. The six themes were "reviving the exhausted body and mind," "being free from the yoke of pain," "being settled in life," "finding oneself and becoming altruistic," "striving while anticipating change," and "equipping the body and mind." The three theme clusters were "overcoming my past pain," "taking the initiative for today's life," and "moving towards new change." Conclusion: The narratives revealed that physical activity allowed women to overcome menopausal symptoms, the burden of relationships, and stress, thereby enabling them to make positive changes in their lives and have expectations for the future. Thus, physical activity was a positive force in a healthy menopausal transition for women with menopausal symptoms. The findings of this study can be used to encourage physical activity in peri-menopausal women and to develop physical activity programs for managing menopausal symptoms.

다발성 골수종에서의 $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT: 전신영상 획득이 필요한가? ([ $^{18}F-FDG$ ] PET/CT in Multiple Myeloma: Is It Necessary to Include the Skull and Lower Extremity Distal to Mid-Thigh?)

  • 목적: 이 연구에서는 다발성 골수종에서 두개골과 중간 허벅지 이하 하지부를 포함한 전신 $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT 영상 획득의 필요여부를 알아보았다. 대상 및 방법: 총 30명(평균나이: $59.4{\pm}11.7$세, 남/여 17/13명)의 환자를 대상으로 두개골과 중간 허벅지 이하 하지부를 포함한 전신 $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT 영상을 총 45개 촬영하였다. PET 영상에서 두개골 또는 중간 허벅지 이하 하지부에 주변보다 비정상적인 국소 섭취증가를 보이는 병변 유무에 따라 두 그룹으로 나누어 나이, 성별, 병기 등의 임상소견 차이를 비교해보았다. 결과: 총 45개의 전신 PET/CT 영상에서 두개골 또는 중간 허벅지 이하 하지부 병변은 14명 환자(46.7%)의 22개 스캔(48.9%)에서 발견되었다. 그 중 두개골 병변은 중간 허벅지 이하 하지부 병변에 비해 유의하게 흔히 관찰되었다(86.4% 대 40.9%, p<0.005). 이 두 환자군 사이에 종양의 양을 반영하는 혈색소 수치, 혈청 칼슘 수치, 혈청 면역글로불린 수치, 뇨 면역글로불린 수치, 혈청 크레아티닌 수치에 유의한 차이는 없었다. 두개골 또는 중간 허벅지 이하 하지에 비정상적인 국소 FDG 섭취증가를 보인 22개의 PET 영상에서 두개골 또는 중간 허벅지 이하 하지 병변으로 인하여 Durie/Salmon plus 병기가 상승된 경우는 단 1개(4.5%, p>0.05)였다. 결론: FET 영상에서 두개골 또는 중간 허벅지 이하 하지 병변은 다발성 골수종에 있어 종양의 양 및 병기 평가에 유의한 영향을 주지 못했다. 따라서 다발성 골수종에서 머리와 다리를 포함한 전신영상을 꼭 촬영할 필요는 없으며, 머리를 포함한 몸통 영상획득 방법이 가장 적절할 것으로 보인다.

Effects of Temperature and Heavy Metals on Extractable Lipofuscin in the Blue Crab, Callinectes sapidus

  • The potential role of environmental factors on extractable lipofuscin accumulation rate in the blue crab was studied by examining the effect of temperature on laboratory reared blue crabs and the effect of trace metals from samples collected at impacted sites (Baltimore Harbor) and a relatively pristine site (outdoor ponds at Horn Point Laboratory, Cambridge, MD, USA). Lipofuscin levels did not significantly related with sampling sites or heavy metal concentrations in the crab tissue. Heavy metal body burden was highly variable among sampling sites and tissue types but significantly higher for both impacted areas (Curtis Creek and Inner Harbor) in comparison to the reference site. Among tissue types, gills showed the highest metal concentrations with the exception of Hg, which was highest in muscle tissue. For two groups of crabs that were held at either ambient (4 to 1$0^{\circ}C$) or heated seawater (19$^{\circ}C$) for two months, normalized-lipofuscin levels were significantly different (P-0.001). Results suggest that temperature may affect lipofuscin accumulation (=0.25ng-lipofuscin/mg-protein/temperature-degree day). Therefore, temperature should be considered for accurate age calibration of crab populations using lipofuscin.
