  • The goal of the image restoration is to find a good approximation of the original image for the degraded image, the blurring matrix, and the statistics of the noise vector given. Fast truncated Lagrange (FTL) method has been proposed by G. Landi as a image restoration method for large-scale ill-conditioned BTTB linear systems([3]). We implemented FTL method for the image restoration problem with reflective boundary condition which gives better reconstructions of the unknown, the true image.

  • The interests in alternative office systems and solutions (called smart work in Korea) are growing. With the lens of boundary theory, this paper tries to understand the nature of work/nonwork boundaries which smart work will be expected to blur. Boundary theory provides permeability, boundary strength, and interference as its key concepts and an empirical study is performed about the individual perception on those concepts. The result of the survey from telecommuters and/or smart work center users at the Company K shows that they perceive work/nonwork permeability, boundary strength, and interference are asymmetric. The result suggests that asymmetric nature of the work/nonwork boundaries should be taken into account when alternative office systems are brought into use.

  • In this paper describes image enhancement technique using deconvolution processing for ultrasonic nondestructive testing. When flaws are detected fur B-scan or C-scan, blurring effect which is caused by the moving intervals of transducer degrades the quality of images. In addition, acquisited images suffer form speckle noise which is caused by the ultrasonic components reflected from the grain boundary of material (1,2). The deconvolution technique can restore sharp peak value or clean image from blurring signal or image. This processing is applied to C-scan image obtained from known specimen. Experimental results show that the deconvolution processing contributes to get improved the quality of C-scan images.

  • This study focuses on defining the new meaning of immateriality in the present times expressed on space. The purposes of this study were to examine the characteristics of immateriality showed in commercial interior design in Korea, based on the definition of immateriality concept and the analysis of the way it is expressed. The result of this study is as follows; it categorized characteristic of material expression, space concept and media. Characteristic elements can be classified into 6: transparency, implication, off-gravitation, ambiguity of boundary, temporality, interactivity. Expression of immateriality in commercial interior space was obtained in many different ways, which are identified: new expression of material by reduction of materiality, leveling of transparency, expression of floating status, changeable image, illusion effect, blurring boundary. Immateriality is deeply associated with the elements such as surface, material, media, light, and movement. So it is being recognized as an important design concept in today's pluralist society and will play an important role within the design paradigms for the future.

  • In this paper, we propose a new process for ultrasonic B-mode image considering the sound field effects of a concave circuit focused transducer, and aim to remove the speckle pattern which cause the blurring on boundary in ultrasonic B-mode image. We discuss in detail the conception of speckle pattern generation, and the frequency compounding method which is applied to the process for getting a speckle reduced B-mode image. Through the computer simulation, we define the meaning of speckle region, and show the results of reduced speckle pattern. It is discovered in the results that the frequency compounding method is very effective for boundary detection and that the application of the method is limited by various conditions.

  • This paper describes a technique for detecting the boundary of the optic disk in digital image of the retina using inward and outward curve evolution. Optic disk boundary offers medical information about glaucoma progresses. For accurate boundary detection, image inpainting based on PDE removes blood vessels crossing the optic disk. For removing noises and preserving boundary of optic disk in image inpainting process, the anisotropic diffusion filtering is developed. After pre-processing, the optic disk boundary is determined using inward and outward curve evolution. Experimental results show that blurring effect of original region and optic disk boundary is reduced considerably. By the proposed method, we can detect correct disk boundary compare to conventional method.

  • In this paper, we propose the method of extracting edge information from MPEG video sequences for the detection of scene changes. In a the proposed method, five significant AC coefficients of each MPEG block are utilized to obtain edge images from the MPEG video. AC edge images obtained by the proposed scheme not only produce better object boundary information than conventional methods using only DC coefficients, but also can reduce the boundary effects produced by DC-based. Since the AC edge image contains the content information of each frame, it can be effectively utilized for the detection of scene change as well as the content-based video query. Experimental results show that the proposed method can be effectively utilized for the detection of scene changes.

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of morphing in fashion design through the documentaries on morphing and fashion. The characteristics of morphing in fine art, media, and design area were categorized as reversible metamorphosis, sequential dissolve and blurring of interpolation boundaries. The results were as follow in fashion design. Reversible metamorphosis showed an automatic silhouette transformation by remote control, the metamorphosis of folding method by wearer's own movements and the automatic silhouette transformation by the air pressurizing method. It represented the thoughts of omnipotence as in the feeling of the magical world, the human desire for control in life, the rationalization of magical thinking and imaginative power, the creation of a new dress space and the extension of dress function. Sequential dissolve showed juxtaposition in the same area by the time order, juxtaposition in virtual space through the computer graphics, the series of fashion photography by steel cut of the dress making process and the blending of digital film and fashion design. It represented the approach for the storytelling of fashion show, implication of creative fashion design process and the creation of organic forms and the feeling of fantasy through artificial technology. The blurring of interpolation boundary showed an overlay of different fabrics with transparent boundaries, an overlay of different patterns with transparent boundaries and the blending of fabrics through the visual mixing of color. It represented the obfuscation of the object, the connotation of the space order, the connotation of the extensive and various meanings and the integrative property of objects.

  • In the satellite remote sensing, the operational environment of the satellite sensor causes image degradation during the image acquisition. The degradation results in noise and blurring which badly affect identification and extraction of useful information in image data. This study proposes a maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation using Point-Jacobian iteration to restore a degraded image. The proposed method assumes a Gaussian additive noise and Markov random field of spatial continuity. The proposed method employs a neighbor window of spoke type which is composed of 8 line windows at the 8 directions, and a boundary adjacency measure of Mahalanobis square distance between center and neighbor pixels. For the evaluation of the proposed method, a pixel-wise classification was used for simulation data using various patterns similar to the structure exhibited in high resolution imagery and an unsupervised segmentation for the remotely-sensed image data of 1 mspatial resolution observed over the north area of Anyang in Korean peninsula. The experimental results imply that it can improve analytical accuracy in the application of remote sensing high resolution imagery.

  • This study analyzes the visage in fashion illustration based on the deconstructed visage of Francis Bacon's paintings as well as analyzes fashion illustration works since 2000. The deconstructed visages in Francis Bacon's paintings are classified as blurring, elimination, distortion and division. The expressive methods and meanings in fashion illustration (according to categorization) are as follow. Blurring shows an ambiguous visage organ by the sweeping of the brush, removal of a boundary among the visage, body and clothes, gradation of organic line like visage shapes, stretching of the a plat combined to visage and fragmentation of visage. It represents an uncertainty of the fashion theme and image interpretation, impossibility of figure by ambiguity, fantastic effect and the induction of the uncanny. Elimination shows the background color's painting of a photo-montage, overlap of a cutting of visage's part and background of a plat, elimination of the visage and the elimination of eyes, nose or lips. It represents a weakened identity, the reinforcement of anonymity, creation of a violent image, and uncanny unfamiliarity. Distortion shows a distorted visage by free drawing, and unconscious drawing line, fluid digital body, combination of an unconscious curve, and an eccentric combination of the accidental. It represents the relief of specialty about realistic existence, hypothetical immateriality and fantasy. Division shows overlapped visages with different angles, the weird combination of a plural visage and different species and a plural breakaway of direction, and the position of several organs. It represents motion by power's trace, non-territory of species, ambiguity and uncertainty and the uncanny.
