Mussels are stubborn organism attached to solid substrate by byssus threads and caused operational problems in utility of power generating stations. Sole and combined usage of ultrasonic (28 kHz- and 42 kHz- frequencies) and hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) has studied for control of blue mussel larvae and adult stage in seawater condition. A theoretical wo rking model using disinfection (Chick and Watson type) approaches is presented based on helpful results of experiments. This study also demonstrate that the combined treatment (ultra-sonication with $H_2O_2$) is overall highly efficient than individual treatment would, but on the basis of exposure time, the ultra-sonication was the most efficient among them. Therefore the development of sole and combined technique might be effective practical mitigation strategy against mussel attachment for water handling facilities.
Fuel processing systems which convert fuel into rich gas (such as stream reforming, partial oxidation, autothermal reforming) need high temperature environment ($600{\sim}1,000^{\circ}$). Generally, anode-off gas or mixture of anode-off gas and LNG is used as input gas of fuel reformer. In order to make efficient and low emission burner system for fuel reformer, it is necessary to elucidate the combustion and emission characteristic of fuel reformer burner. The purpose of this study is to develop a porous premixed flat ceramic burner that can be used for 1~5 kW fuel cell reformer. Ceramic burner experiments using natural gas, hydrogen gas, anode off gas, mixture of natural gas & anode off gas were carried out respectively to investigate the flame characteristics by heating capacity and equivalence ratio. Results show that the stable flat flames can be established for natural gas, hydrogen gas, anode off gas and mixture of natural gas & anode off gas as reformer fuel in the porous ceramic burner. For all of fuels, their burning velocities become smaller as the equivalence ratio goes to the lean mixture ratio, and a lift-off occurs at lean limit. Flame length in hydrogen and anode off gas became longer with increasing the heat capacity. In particular, the blue surface flame is found to be very stable at a very lean equivalence ratio at heat capacity and different fuels. The exhausted NOx and CO measurement shows that the blue surface flame represents the lowest NOx and CO emissions since it remains very stable at a lean equivalence ratio.

The membrane separation process for carbon dioxide capture from hydrogen reformer exhaust gas has been developed. Using a commercial membrane module, a multi-stage process was developed to achieve 90% of carbon dioxide purity and 90% of recovery rate for ternary mixed gas. Even if a membrane module with being well-known properties such as material selectivity and permeability, the process performance of purity and recovery widely varies depending on the stage-cut, the pressure at feed and permeate side. In this study, we verify the limits of capture efficiency at single-stage membrane process under various operating conditions and optimized the two-stage recovery process to simultaneously achieve high purity and recovery rate.
The initial growth of Clostridium acetobutylicum was not inhibited by 1 atm of H$_2$ while H$_2$ reduced glucose consumption in a solventogenic culture of a phosphate limited 2-stage chemostat. Under 1 atm of H$_2$, a solventogenic culture consumed hydrogen, but an acidogenic culture produced hydrogen. H$_2$ consumption by the solventogenic culture was enhanced by the addition of 5 mM neutral red, an artificial electron carrier with a redox potential of -325 mV. Hydrogenase activity, measured in both directions of production and consumption, showed that activity coupled with methyl viologen is higher in an acidogenic culture than in a solventogenic culture, and that the two cultures have similar activities for methylene blue reduction. The solventogenic culture showed a higher activity coupled with neutral red than the acidogenic culture. From these results, it is hypothesized that hydrogen producing hydrogenase activity is high during the acidogenic phase, and decreases as solventogenesis starts, and that the solventogenic culture produces a second hydrogenase which uses an electron carrier other than ferredoxin. This hypothesis was supported by the fact that enzyme activities involved in electron flow can be coupled to neutral red, indepedent of ferredoxin, and that neutral red addition to the fermentation system increased butanol yield, with a decrease in production of less reduced fermentation products, and $H^2$.

Methylene blue(MB) was photocatalytically degraded with one-body photoanode and solar simulator to investigate the possible application to both environmental purification and photoelectrochemical cell for hydrogen production. Photoactive titanium dioxide was formed on both sides of Ti plate following steps such as rinsing-annealing-calcination or anodizing(20 V, 30 V)-annealing($350^{\circ}C$, $450^{\circ}C)$ after etching. The prepared titania plate($2cm{\times}2\;cm$, ca 1.6 mg $TiO_2$ on the basis of $1\;{\mu}m$ thickness) was used to degrade MB(10 ppm in 200 mL solution). The reaction tended to follow the Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetics with zero order. Comparative experiments with Degussa P25 showed the same zero order kinetics when 2 mg of P25 had been used, while the first order kinetics when 200 mg used. This concludes the feasibility of the prepared titania plate as a material for the purification of low-level harmful organics and an electrode or a membrane for photoelectrochemical system for hydrogen production.
Experiments were carried out to examine the combined effects of hypoxia and hydrogen sulfide on survival, feeding activity and metabolic rata or Blue crab, Portunus trituberculatus. Survival rate of the crab was significantly affected by $\leq2.14mg/l$ dissolved oxygen, and feeding activity was also reduced below 1.41mg/l dissolved oxygen. Metabolic rate of the crab exosed to hypoxia $(\leq3.35mg/l)$ was significantly reduced than that exposed to normoxia. The combined effects of hypoxia $(\leq1.86mg/l)$ and hydrogen sulfide $(12.35 {\mu}g/l)$ on the survival rate were highly toxic than each single effect. Feeding activity was also decreased by the combinedexposure to $\leq1.86mg/l$ dissolved oxygen and $(12.35 {\mu}g/l)$ hydrogen sulfide compared with single effect.
Notable blue shifts of the ν2 $C{\equiv}N$ stretching, $_{v4}$ C-C stretching and $_{v8}$ CCN deformation bands of $CD_3CN$ are observed upon solvation of $InCl_3$, resulting from the donor-acceptor interaction. The Raman spectrum in the $_{v2}$ region shows further details; at least two new bands emerge on the blue side of the $_{v2}$ band of free $CD_3CN$, whose relative intensities vary with concentration, suggesting that there exist at least two different cationic species in the solution. The strong hydrogen bonds formed between the methyl group and ${InCl_4}^-$ result in a large band appearing on the red side of the ν1 $CD_3$ symmetric stretching band. The solvation number of $InCl_3$, determined from the Raman intensities of the $C{\equiv}N$ stretching bands for free and coordinated $CD_3CN$, increases from $\sim$1.5 to $\sim$1.8 with decreasing concentration.
Nanorod graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) was synthesized by reacting melamine (C3H6N6) with trithiocyanuric acid (C3H3N3S3) in distilled water for 10 h at room temperature. The resulting mixture was calcined at 550℃ for 2 h in an electric furnace under an air atmosphere. Nanorod g-C3N4/Ag3PO4 composites were prepared by adding nanorod graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) powder, silver nitrate (AgNO3), ammonia (NH3·H2O, 25.0-30.0%), and sodium hydrogen phosphate (Na3HPO4) to distilled water. The samples were characterized via X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activities of the nanorod g-C3N4/Ag3PO4 composites were demonstrated via the degradation of organic dyes, such as methylene blue and methyl orange, under blue light-emitting diode irradiation and evaluated using UV-vis spectrophotometry.

SiOC films containing alkyl groups have a low dielectric constant because of the interaction between the C-H hydrogen bonds and the oxygen of high electro-negative atom. The Si-$CH_3$ in a void is broken by the $O_2$, therefore the strength of CH bond in Si-O-O-$CH_3$ bond increases. The Si-O-O-$CH_3$ bond is broken by nucleophilic attack due to Si atom, again. The elongation of C-H bond causes the red shift, and the compression of C-H bond causes the blue shift. Among these chemical shifts, the blue shift from $1000\;cm^{-1}$ to $1250\;cm^{-1}$ was related with the formation of pores. If the oxygen is deficient condition, the methylradicals of the electron-rich substitution group terminate easily the Si-O-Si cross-link, and the pore is originated from the cross-link breakdown due to much methyl radicals of Si-$CH_3$. The dielectric constant of the films decreases due to pore generation.
