Study of efficient resource utilization on the wireless mobile networks (이동 통신망 무선자원의 효율적 이용에 관한 연구)

  • In most resource reservation strategies, which give higher priorities to handoff calls over new calls, new calls are often blocked even though there is plenty of available reserved resource. This causes inefficient resource utilization, especially when there are not so many handoff attempts. In this paper, we propose a new reservationstrategy called soft reservation in which new calls can be allocated to the reserved resource while maintaining the QoS of handoff acceptable. Using an M/M/c/c queuing model, we can see that the proposed strategy provides better performance than the conventional reservation strategy in terms of blocking probability of new call and dropping probability of handoff calls.

A Study on the Implementation of a Control System with Dual Structure and Its Reliability Analysis (이중구조를 갖는 제어시스템의 구현과 신뢰도 분석에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a reliable control system structured with dual CPU modules and dual I/O modules is implemented as a means of achieving a highly reliable fault tolerant control system. For this, faults in the system modules are first examined, and a fault detection technique consisting of self diagnostic, comparison process, and exception processing is applied. Self diagnostic is used to locate which components in the modules have been failed, while comparison process is to cmpare control outputs computed by both CPU modules and protect the plant from malfunction by blocking failed control outputsin advance. Finally exception processing is used to determine the faults that are not detected immediately by the self diagnostic and comparison process, e.g. bus error processing when acknowledge signal for data transfer is not activeted in the I/O modules. Also reliability analysis is conducted for the discrete time Markov model with dual structure. It is shown quantitatively that the reliability is improved in the control system with dual structure in comparison with a system with single module structure.

  • Silica glass is a core material for optical fiber in optical telecommunications, but its centrosymmetry eliminates the second order nonlinearity. But it is experimentally well known that the space charge polarization induces the Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) when a strong DC voltage is applied to silica glass for a long period time with metal blocking electrodes. In this research, a theoretical calculation of the nonlinear optical property caused by the space charge polarization is performed, and a model of a numerical analysis to predict the small change in nonlinear optical property as functions of time and space is provided.

Throughput-based fair bandwidth allocation in OBS networks

  • Fair bandwidth allocation (FBA) has been studied in optical burst switching (OBS) networks, with the main idea being to map the max-min fairness in traditional IP networks to the fair-loss probability in OBS networks. This approach has proven to be fair in terms of the bandwidth allocation for differential connections, but the use of the ErlangB formula to calculate the theoretical loss probability has made this approach applicable only to Poisson flows. Furthermore, it is necessary to have a reasonable fairness measure to evaluate FBA models. This article proposes an approach involving throughput-based-FBA, called TFBA, and recommends a new fairness measure that is based on the ratio of the actual throughput to the allocated bandwidth. An analytical model for the performance of the output link with TFBA is also proposed.

  • Demand Controller is a load control device that monitor the current power consumption and calculate the forecast power to not exceed the power set by consumer. Accurate demand forecasting is important because of controlling the load use the way that sound a warning and then blocking the load when if forecasted demand exceed the power set by consumer. When if consumer with fluctuating power consumption use the existing forecasting method, management of demand control has the disadvantage of not stable. In this paper, load forecasting of the unit of seconds using the Exponential Smoothing Methods, ARIMA model, Kalman Filter is proposed. Also simulation of load forecasting of the unit of the seconds methods and existing forecasting methods is performed and analyzed the accuracy. As a result of simulation, the accuracy of load forecasting methods in seconds is higher.

  • The second harmonic component is commonly used for blocking differential relay in power transformers. However, it is difficult to distinguish between inrush and internal winding fault with differential current protective relaying. This paper proposed a new method using Nuro-Fuzzy System based on HCM(Hard C-Means). The proposed system is more objective and systematic than existing model. The data used in input are 3-phase primary voltage and fundamental harmonic of differential current. Various states of transformer are simulated using BCTRAN and HYSDAT of EMTP. As a result of the application of algorithm in various cases, the exact discrimination between internal winding fault and inrush is performed.

  • The handover area is the region where a call can be handled by the base stations in any of the adjacent cells, and handover duration time is viewed as the time an mobile station resides inthe handover area. In this paper, analytic model to estimate the distribution function(df) of the handover duration time is proposed. Based on the df of the handover duration time, the simulation and anlytic models for the First Come first Serve(FCFS) scheme are presented, and the simulation results for the Measurement Based Prioritization Scheme(MBPS) are compared with the analytic results of the FCFS handover scheme. Those results show that the MBPS scheme is seen to provide lower handover failures than FCFS queueing with slightly increasing the new call blocking probability.

  • In this paper, we propose a new switch element of buffered Banyan network and analysis it. The proposed switch element consists of CASO(Content ASsociated Output) buffers, its controller and 2*2 crossbar switch. This switch element increase the performance of buffered Banyan network by removing HOL blocking. Also, we analyze the proposed switch element by mathematical modelling method based on MY analysis model which is one of earier proposed models.

A Performance Modeling of Wireless Sensor Networks as a Queueing Network with On and Off Servers

  • In this work, we consider performance modeling of a wireless sensor network with a time division multiple access (TDMA) media access protocol with slot reuse. It is assumed that all the nodes are peers of each other and they have two modes of operation, active and sleep modes. We model the sensor network as a Jackson network with unreliable nodes with on and off states. Active and sleep modes of sensor nodes are modeled with on and off states of unreliable nodes. We determine the joint distribution of the sensor node queue lengths in the network. From this result, we derive the probability distribution of the number of active nodes and blocking probability of node activation. Then, we present the mean packet delay, average sleep period of a node and the network throughput. We present numerical results as well as simulation results to verify the analysis. Finally, we discuss how the derived results may be used in the design of sensor networks.
