This study was investigated to find the proper UV-A blocking percentage that could protect the denaturation of catalase and superoxide dismutase (SOD), antioxidative enzymes in eye, induced by UV-A. Catalase or SOD were irradiated at 365 nm for 1, 3, 6, 24, 96 hr and the extent of denaturation was evalutated by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Furthermore, it was investigated whether blocking of UV-A by 20, 50, 80 and 99% eyeglass lens could protect the denaturation of catalase and SOD or not. Catalase became to denature when catalase were irradiated by UV-A for more than 3 hours. However, the denaturation of SOD was induced by more than 6 hours irradiation. The denaturation of catalase induced by irradiation for 3 hr could be perfectly protected by 99% UV-A blocking lens. But, when the irradiation time became longer than 3 hr or the blocking percentage of lens were lower than 99%, the denaturation of catalase was not perfectly protected but partially protected. Although 50% UV-A blocking lens had partial protecting effects, lenses having 80 or 99% UV-A blocking effect could perfectly prevent the denaturation of SOD induced by 96 hr irradiation.

UV protection cosmetics belong to functional cosmetics and contain organic or inorganic UV blocking pigments. The inorganic UV blocking pigments are mainly zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. It is known that inorganic UV blocking pigment has a diameter of 60 to 100 nm and has good blocking ability of UVA and UVB. Also, it has high inactivity against sunlight including UV and is excellent in safety. In addition, it is not absorbed or accumulated on the skin like organic pigments and does not cause skin irritation or allergy. In this study, mica, a plate-shaped inorganic pigment, nanosized titanium dioxide, an UV blocking material, and hydrophobic silica were surface-treated with surfactants. And then, titanium dioxide nanoparticles and silica were physically adsorbed on the mica by non-chemical mutual attraction due to differences in charge. Thereafter, the mica complex was surface-treated with silane to prepare a hydrophobic UV blocking pigment complex. The plate-shaped UV blocking composite improves the cohesiveness of a general nanoparticle material titanium dioxide, enhances UV blocking effect due to uniform dispersion, and can greatly improve dispersion stability in cosmetic formulations by surface treatment with hydrophobic property. The surface charge of the pigment was evaluated by zeta potential. The properties of the UV blocking pigment complex were evaluated by FE-SEM, XRD, FT-IR and UV-VIS.

The asymmetric hollow fiber membranes were prepared by the wet spining of polyetherimide dope solution and the effect of hollow fiber structures on the permeation characteristics of carbon dioxide and nitrogen gases through these membrane were investigated. As the concentration of the $\gamma$-butyrolactone (GBL) in dope solution, acting as a swelling agent was increased, the structure of hollow fiber was changed from the finger to sponge type. The permeabilities of gases (CO$_{2}$, N$_{2}$) through these membrane were measured over the wide range of pressure under different temperature. The effect of water vapor on the permeabilities of gases was also investigated. The measured permeabilities showed the different characteristics depending on the structure of membranes. It was found that the flow through the pores were dominant over the polymers matrix. Blocking effect by water vapor in the pores of skin layer greatly improved the ideal separation factor of carbon dioxide/nitrogen.
In this work, we studied a fluorite structure oxides: Yttria stabilized zirconia, (YSZ); Gd doped $CeO_2$ (GDC); erbia stabilized $Bi_2O_3$ (ESB); Zr doped erbia stabilized $Bi_2O_3$ (ZESB); Ca doped erbia stabilized $Bi_2O_3$ (CESB) in the temperature range of 250 to $600^{\circ}C$ using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). As is well known, grain boundary blocking effect was observed in YSZ and GDC. However, there is no grain boundary effect on ESB, ZESB, and CESB. The Nyquist plots of these materials exhibit a single arc at low temperature. This means that there is no space charge effect on ${\delta}-Bi_2O_3$. In addition, impedance data were analyzed by using the brick layer model. We indirectly demonstrate that grain boundary ionic conductivity is similar to or even higher than bulk ionic conductivity on cubic bismuth oxide.
Haloperidol, a butyrophenone, was synthetized by Janssen and introduced for the treatment of psychosis. Although structurally different from the phenothiazines, the butyrophenones share many of their pharmacological properties, such as inhibition of conditioned avoidance response, blocking effect of amphetamine reaction, producing catalepsy, antishock effect and protection against the lethal effects of catecholalmines. Chlorpromazine can lower the arterial blood pressure through its adrenergic blocking activity, its direct effect in relaxing vascular smooth muscle, its direct effect in depressing the myocardium and its action in a complex manner on the central nervous system. In the case of haloperidol, however, was not clarified the mechanism of lowering the blood pressure. The present paper describes the effects of haloperidol on cardiovascular system to investigate the mechanisms of its actions on the arterial blood pressure. The results are followings; 1. In anesthetized cats, intravenous administration of haloperidol and chlorpromazine in the dose of 0.1mg/kg produced a slight decrease in the blood pressure, which followed by complete recovery within $30{\sim}60$ minutes. In the dose of 3mg/kg, however, both produced an abrupt and marked decrease of the blood pressure, which followed by delayed recovery. 2. Haloperidol in the dose ranges of 0.1mg to 3.0mg/kg tended to produce the heart rate slowing in the cats, while chlorpromazine has no effect on the rate. 3. Following administration of haloperidol or chlorpromazine, epinephrine reversal in the arterial blood pressure was observed in the cat, however the responses of norepinephrine and acetylcholine were little affected. 4. In the isolated rabbit atrium the contractility was depressed by haloperidol in the doses over 0.5mg per 100ml, but the rate was not affected. In contrast, the epinephrine-induced contractility was not depressed after haloperidol treatment. However, the increased rate of atrium by epinephrine was partially blocked after haloperidol. 5. In the isolated rabbit aortic strip, epinephrine-induced contraction was blocked by haloperidol. With the above results, it may be concluded that the hypotensive effect of haloperidol was largely due to ${\alpha}$-adrenergic blocking properties and the direct effect in depressing the myocardium as well as its action on central nervous system.

H.264/AVC among moving picture compression standard is the standard format for high compression rate and reliable video transimission. It generates blocking effects in video due to compressing video using block-based DCT and includes de-blocking filter to reduce blocking effect. Therefore, the filter makes the video over-smoothing and the quality of it is reduced. In this paper, we propose a improved de-blocking filter to solve the demerit. The proposed de-blocking filter redetermine the block boundary strength and apply the comer filtering to eliminate artifacts in low frequency domain. To evaluate the performance, we apply the proposed deblocking filter and exiting method to various video and evaluated the quality of image subjectively and objectively by analyzing the result. The simulation result shows the proposed method preserves the edge of video, reduces blocking effects and improves PSNR than the existing method.
A total of 578,886 nerve blocks were performed during a period of 28 years. Based on our experience, we introduced the concept of compartment block, and then improved our technique of nerve blocking. If the location of a compartment was defined by injecting a contrast medium under fluoroscopic monitoring, the effect of nerve block could be estimated. As a result, we can safely perform nerve blocks with alcohol within a short period of time.
In this paper, we presented WT(wavelet transform) domain feedback canceller in hearing aids system. Most transform methods produce blocking effect and this effect degrades the performance of feedback canceller and overall hearing aids system. As a solution we proposed WT based feedback canceller. The performance of this new approach was compared with LOT (lapped orthogonal transform) based method in the frequency domain. As a result, WT based feedback canceller has not shown the blocking effect and improved convergence rate as compared with the LOT based feedback canceller.
This paper describes the effect of wave control using submerged flat plate by the numerical calculation and the hydraulic model test. The boundary element method is used to develop a numerical solution for the flow field caused by monochromatic oblique waves incident upon an infinitely long, sumerged flat plate situated in arbitrary water depth. The effect of wave blocking is examined according to the change of length, submerged depth of flat plate and incident angles. Numerical results show that longer length, shallower submergence of flat plate and larger incident angles enhance the effect of wave blocking. To validate numerical analysis method, hydraulic model test was conducted in 2-D wave flume with 60 cm metal sheet. Reflected waves are extracted from water surface elevation in front of the location of a submerged plate by least square method with 3 wave gages. From comparing experimental results with numerical results, efficiency of numerical analysis method by this study could be confirmed well within wide ranges of wave frequencies.

Fish respond sensitively to light, so it is possible to develop fish management technology using this feature. In this study, we developed a light-based fish barrier and analyzed itsblocking effect using the difference in illuminance for the major fish species in Korea, bass and bluegill. The light was generated by a light emitting diode and the facility was installed vertically from the bottom. Considering the fish's ability to travel upstream, the flow rate was divided into three stages (0.2, 0.1, and 0.05 m/s). To prevent the learning effect, an experiment was carried out with fish that had rested for more than one day in a rearing tank. The experiment was carried out in such a way as tocompare the number of fish which travelled upstream after the introductionof the fish barrier and that of the fish which travelled upstream after itsremoval. It was also carried out after sunset to increase the effectiveness of the barrier. According to the results of the experiment, the fish blocking effect depending on the difference in illuminance was high and, overall, the blocking rate for bass was lower than that for bluegill. Based on the total size of the experimental population, the blocking rates for bass and bluegill were 96.33% and 99.00%, respectively. Based on the number of fish that travelled upstream, the blocking rates for bass and bluegill were 91.73% and 98.73%, respectively.
