  • Fractal coding is a promising method for image compression, but it has not lived up to its promise as low bit-rate image compression scheme. The existing algorithms for finding self-mapping contractive transforms are computationally expensive and offer a poor rate-quality tradeoff. In this paper, we propose a segment based fractal coding. We classify the range blocks into shade, midrange or edge blocks, and segment edge block along the edge. And we apply midrange coding scheme for each segment. Our experiments show that our method gives better rate-qualty trade of than current fractal block coding methods.

  • A new transform coder for arbitrarily shaped image segments is proposed. In the encoder, a block-based DCT is applied to the resulting image block after shifting pixels within the image segment to block border and padding the mean value of the pixels to empty region. For reducing the transmission bit rate, the transform coefficients located in padded region are truncated and only the remaining transform coefficients are transmitted to the decoder. In the decoder, the transform coefficients truncated in the encoder are recovered using received transform coefficients and a block-based inverse DCT is performed.

  • Thermal properties of copolyetherester/silica nanocomposites were examined by using DSC and TGA. The segmented block copolyetheresters with various hard segment structures and hard segment contents (HSC) were synthesized and their silica nanocomposite films were prepared by solution casting method. The nano-sized fumed silica particles were found to act as a nucleating agent of the copolyetheresters. The nanocomposites always showed reduced degree of supercooling or faster crystallization than the corresponding copolyetheresters. The nanocomposites also showed increased hard segment crystallinity except HSC 35 sample which had short hard segment length. In case of 2GT [poly(ethylene terephthalate)] copolyetheresters, which were not developed commercially because of their low crystallization rate, the hard segment crystallinity increased considerably. The copolyetherester/silica nanocomposites showed better thermal stability than copolyetheresters.

  • A series of polyurethane block copolymers based on hydroxyterminated poly(dimethyl siloxane), poly(propylene glycol) and poly(tetramethylene glycol) soft segments of molecular weights 1,809, 2,000 and 2,000, respectively, were synthesized. The hard segments consisted of 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate and 1,4-butanediol as the chain extender. Samples with different molar ratios were prepared. We tried to synthesize poly(dimethyl siloxane)-based polyurethane(PDMS-PU) containing a hard block as major fraction and a soft block as minor fraction for preparing toughened rigid systems. After a study of the pure PDMS-PU, poly(propylene glycol)-based polyurethane(PPG-PU) and poly(tetramethylene glycol)-based polyurethane(PTMG-PU), (mixed polyol)-based block copolymers and blends between PDMS-PU, PPG-PU and PTMG-PU were prepared, and characterized by means of differential scanning calorimetry, tensile testing and scanning electron microscopy. In (mixed polyol)-based PU and in lower hard segment content blends, macro-phase separation was shown, but blends with higher hard segment contents showed significant reduction in amounts of phase separation.

  • The purpose of this study is to categorize Commercial area by identifying characteristics of blocks and coding them in order to segment use zoning in Commercial area. The study was conducted as follows. Data from building register, cadastral map, statistics annual report are utilized to identify the physical environment of the block. four types used as code under the physical environment classification code which are classification code of physical environment, detail usage, volume ratio, and height type are set, and combine the classification codes sorted by the four types of code. Through the physical environment classification codes, there are currently 37 different block characteristics of the Old downtown Commercial area. Diversity is not reflected. There are only Central commercial area of regulations in Old downtown commercial areas that are uniformly managed. For the renewal, management and development that can occur in the near future, it is necessary to segment of use district in the commercial area. Consider the current situation and future development direction for the management of sustainable commercial areas. Management is required using physical environment classification codes. It is meaningful that it can be maintained, managed and developed in accordance with the characteristics of each block.

  • Polyamide 12 (PA12) oligomers (oPA1) were prepared by dispersion polymerization of ${\omega}$-amino carboxylic acid and dibasic acid in a dispersion medium, thermally stable hydrocarbon liquid paraffin, YK-D130 (a step polymerization). The molecular weight and various properties of other oligomeric PAs (oPA2) obtained by bulk polymerization without the medium were compared with those of oPA1s. The oPA1s showed lighter white color and narrower molecular weight distribution than oPA2s at the same molecular weight. Moreover elastomeric poly(ether-block-amide) (PEBA)s were synthesized with oPA1 and oPA2 as hard segments and poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG) as a soft segment. The molecular weight distribution, and mechanical property of the PEBA originated from the both oligomeric PAs were characterized.

  • Segmented block copolyetheresters defined as copolymers having sequences of alternating polyester hard blocks and polyether soft blocks create labile physical cross-links upon crystallization of hard polyester blocks Since the nature of the physical interlocking is a crystallite formed exclusively from the crystallizable hard segment, the basic understanding of interrelationship between crystallization condition and phase morphology is very important for the property control of the segmented block copolyetheresters. • In general, the thermoplastic elastomers have the elastic recovery property caused by phyical crosslinks after the stress is applied. Segmented block copolyetheresters also have been used as elastomers. Many$\^$l-2/ tried to improve the elastic recovery of those which are less elastic than polyurethane. We confirmed that the copolyetherester based on poly(2,6-butylene naphthalate)(PBN) ha.4 segment had the high melting temperature, whcih was useable at the broader temperature range and the one based on poly(1,3-trimethylene terephthalate)(PTT) the high crystallinity, which would be expected to get the high elastic recovery. • AB -type block copolymers of poly($\tau$-benzyl L-glutamate) (PBLG, a segment) and polyoxypropylene (POP, Bsegment) were synthesized and they were reacted with polyoxypropylene his(6-aminohexyl) (POE) to enhance the hydrophilicity of the poly- mers. The degree of swelling of the POE -crosslinked block copolymers (CPB -2) was higher than that of the block dopolymers (PB). The amount of 5-fluorouracil re- leased from CPB-2 block copolymers was greater than that from the PB block copol- ymers when they were incubated in the same period. These results indicate that the amount of 5-fluorouracil released from the matrices is proportional to the hydrophilicity of the polymers. Observing polymer surfaces by scanning electron mi- croscope, pores (diameter ; $0.5-1.5{\mu}$m) were appeared on the surface of CPB-2
