  • Objectives of this study were to investigate influencing factors of detention time, particle size distribution, and filter medium characteristics for waterworks sludge dewatering. The stepped pressure filtration was carried out with lab scale apparatus and the filter press pilot test for dewatering was conducted at the water treatment plant. Effects of filter medium and polymer dose were examined through observing water content and dewatering velocity and cyclic dewatering rate with filter press pilot test. Relationships among detention time, particle size distribution and filtration resistance were analyzed. Prolongation of sludge detention time was found to cause blinding phenomenon in cake and filter medium and to decrease dewatering process efficiency. The average specific resistance increased according to detention time. In pilot test of dewatering for thickened sludge with Nylon Multi-NY840D and Nylon Mono-100% filter media, dewatering velocities were 0.92 and $0.93kg\;DS/m^2{\cdot}hr$ according to 0.1% polymer dose of dried solids weight base. And cyclic dewatering rates were 2.45 and $2.50kg\;DS/m^2{\cdot}cycle$ cycle for the Nylon Multi-NY840D and Nylon Mono-100% media. Dewatering velocity of polymer dosed sludge was observed to be higher than that of non-polymer sludge.

  • In this study, a specification for the filter system of plastic board drain using in korea. When PBDs was installed in the soft ground, bridging, blocking, blinding and clogging phenomena could be appeared near the PBD. Especially, clogging phenomena near the filter of PBD is very important factor to determine the life span of the vertical drainage system. Therefore, in this study, we proposed the specification on the filter of PBD considering the size of soil particle. To verify the proposed specification, model tests were conducted by using filter seepage tester. From the model test, newly proposed specification which considered the size of soil particle maintained the ability of seepage of the filter system of PBD.

  • Purpose: To summarize and review the methodological quality of the evidence from trials examining the effectiveness of physical exercise in patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (Allo-HSCT). Methods: Six randomized clinical trials (RCTs) were identified, reviewed for substantive results, and assessed for methodological quality. Results: Six trials met all methodological criteria on the modified Jadad score above 3 out of 5 points. Failure to blind the outcome assessor, and failure to describe the method of blinding of outcome assessor appropriately were the most prevalent methodological shortcomings. Various exercise modalities have been applied, differing in content, frequency, intensity, and duration. Positive results have been observed in part for a diverse set of outcomes, including physical and psychological performance. Conclusion: The trials reviewed in this study were of moderate methodological quality. They suggest that exercise in patients undergoing Allo-HSCT may be safe and feasible, and in part patients benefit from increased physical performance both during and after transplantation. Future RCTs should use larger samples, appropriate comparison groups, and a standard of outcome measures, and examine what kind of exercise intervention (aerobic vs. resistance vs. combined) is the most effective for Allo-HSCT patients. It would be necessary to define contraindication for exercise to guarantee its safety.

  • Objective: This study aimed to review herbal remedy-based RCTs on cancer patients in order to produce helpful information for clinical study of herbal medicine in the future. Methods: We collected all RCTs using herbal remedies on cancer patients from Pubmed and Cochrane databases until November 1st, 2009. Elementary information such as nation where performed, clinical question, design, randomization, double-blinding and allocation concealment were analyzed. Results: 153 RCTs were finally selected. 119 RCTs were conduced in China while only 2 were done in Korea. The most frequent targeted cancer was lung cancer as 29 RCTs. The main clinical questions included improvement of quality of life, elongation of survival rate and regression of tumor being 83, 62 and 55 respectively. 112 RCTs used herbal remedies with western therapy. Adequate methods for randomization and allocation concealment were found in 37% and 10% of trials respectively. Conclusions: We found that herbal remedies are used on cancer patients in aspects of both caring for the human body and tumor treatment itself. The study might provide us useful data for cancer-related clinical study using herbal remedies in the future.

  • Background : Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common adverse effect in cancer patients who were exposed to chemotherapy. CIPN impacts on the quality of life and could delay chemotherapy. The aim of this review was to assess the therapeutic effectiveness of herbal medicine in CIPN patients. Methods : Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included in this review. We searched MEDLINE, Cochrane database, EMBASE, CNKI, Wanfang and four Korean databases without restrictions on time or language. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results : Eleven RCTs involving 706 patients met the inclusion criteria. Eleven different herbal medicines were examined in the included trials. Almost RCTs showed insufficiency in the reporting randomization method and allocation concealment. One trial used allocation concealment and a double-blinding method. Five studies reported that participants dropped out of RCTs and conducted an 'as-treated analysis'. One trials reported adverse effects of herbal medicine. In ten of the eleven trials, the use of herbal medicine had shown significant differences in clinical symptoms or nerve conduction velocity. Conclusions : The use of herbal medicines for CIPN showed significant improvements in the management of CIPN. However, conclusions cannot be drawn because of the generally low quality of methodology and low quantity of data for each single herbal medicine. Further rigorous trials are needed.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to analyze the recent acupuncture clinical trial on atopic dermatitis and to suggest the plan about how to improve its quality. Methods : Data were collected through electronic database including MEDLINE. We set up the search terms for "atopic dermatitis AND acupuncture" and limited period of data within 6 years and type for RCT(Randomized Clinical Trial), SR(Systemic Review). Results : Total 5 studies were selected. Two were RCTs, and the rest were SRs. RCTs were insufficient about acupoint selection criteria and foundation. SRs both pointed out that systematic clinical trial is required. Conclusions : Based on these, we suggested the plan as follows. 1. Selection criteria - We should reevalute the participants by using diagnostic criteria and scales. 2. Selection acupoints - We should present the foundation that why we choose these acupoints. 3. Establishing acupuncture and control group - We should make control group clearly after calculating the number of participants statistically. 4. Blinding - We should propse the method, type, procedure and evaluation about randomization. 5. Evaluation scale - We should select the suitable scales for research objectives.

  • Glaucoma is a potentially blinding chronic disease requiring life-long commitment to medical therapy. Failure to adhere to anti-glaucoma treatment may lead to disease progression and visual loss. This study surveyed the adherence to glaucoma eye drop and eye drop instillation technique of glaucoma patients and analyzed the improvement of the adherence and installation technique after patient education for eye drop instillation instructions. Collected responses were statistically analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney test, Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, Spearman's correlation coefficient, or one sample proportion test. The survey after patient education for proper eye drop instillation revealed that, even if the patients experienced the adverse effect of their eyes getting dry, they used the eye drop more regularly. They were better at instillation techniques like putting the eye drop inside the eye, and also avoiding applying too much medication or touching their eye with the eye drop bottle. Also, when the patients were divided into groups based on etiologic division, there was difference among groups regarding which category they answered has improved. The result showed improvement in adherence to glaucoma eye drop and eye drop instillation technique after patient education, implicating that patient education is an important aspect of eye care for glaucoma patient and helps them participate in the proper management.

  • This paper presents a privacy-preserving data aggregation scheme deals with the multidimensional data. It is essential that the multidimensional data is rarely mentioned in all researches on smart grid. We use the Paillier Cryptosystem and blinding factor technique to encrypt the multidimensional data as a whole and take advantage of the homomorphic property of the Paillier Cryptosystem to achieve data aggregation. Signature and efficient batch verification have also been applied into our scheme for data integrity and quick verification. And the efficient batch verification only requires 2 pairing operations. Our scheme also supports fault tolerance which means that even some smart meters don't work, our scheme can still work well. In addition, we give two extensions of our scheme. One is that our scheme can be used to compute a fixed user's time-of-use electricity bill. The other is that our scheme is able to effectively and quickly deal with the dynamic user situation. In security analysis, we prove the detailed unforgeability and security of batch verification, and briefly introduce other security features. Performance analysis shows that our scheme has lower computational complexity and communication overhead than existing schemes.
