  • Blasting design methods applied in Korea were originally made for foreign rock conditions and blasting environments. Therefore, it has not been fully fitted to the Korean rock renditions. Since 1998, several studies for the automated pattern design of tunnel blasting have been carried out. As the result, a new blasting design method which can settle the problems was developed. Through it is more complex than prior method, it call provide a variety of advantages for us. Through the method, it is possible to vary charge weight according to the changing advance. It ran also be applied to the various design for contour holes. In this study, the newly developed method is introduced.

  • This study, to reduce a ground vibration damage of the structures in an area adjacent to housing structures located closely above the tunnel section, is the ground vibration reduction instance of a tunnel blasting selectively applied the ground vibration-controlled blasting method (delay time applied blasting method, large center hole cut method, Line Drilling method, etc) with an originally planned blasting method connected, but with it's workability and economic efficiency is satisfactory, so, the results says the ground vibration-controlled blasting method on a similar condition is very effective, even if the applicability is depend on the blasting method and ground condition of the work area.

  • Problems on vibration due to blasting for infrastructure development are getting important because of a civil appeal. Blasting-induced vibration is representative construction pollution, hence, it is possible that a number of environmental damages occur. In this study, borehole test blasting was conducted at Sintanjin area, Daejeon and square root equation with 95% confidence level was proposed for prediction of blasting-induced vibration. The vibration value predicted from this equation was more conservatively evaluated than the values predicted from U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Mines (USBM) and Nippon Oil & Fats Co., Ltd. (NOF) equations. Therefore, the proposed equation in this study seems to contribute for safety blast design. However, for optimal blast design, inducing equation for prediction of blasting-induced vibration through the identical test blasting with field construction such as rock slope blasting would be required.

  • In order to reduce ground vibration during tunnel excavation, a free surface blasting method has been applied in which a partial free surface is formed on the excavation surface and controlled blasting is performed. In this study, the ground vibration reduction due to artificial joints was evaluated by forming artificial joints on center cut using diamond wire saw and comparing the ground vibration caused by center cut blasting. As a result of comparison, ground vibration was reduced by artificial joints center cut blasting more than normal center cut blasting, and the ground vibration reduction effect of horizontal artificial joints center cut blasting was evaluated more than that of vertical artificial joint center cut blasting.

  • The effect of the sand blasting before TiAlN coating in the manufacture of WC hard metal alloy tips have been studied. For four different tips, according to the status of processing of the sand blasting and the coating, residual stress measurement by X-ray diffraction and several tests for mechanical properties have been conducted. The results suggest that there was no difference in static mechanical properties, such as hardness, surface roughness and elastic modulus, between two coatings. Furthermore, compressive residual stress was generated equally on their surfaces. Additionally, the compressive residual stress in substrate WC was found to increase greatly when subjected to sand blasting treatment. However, the compressive residual stress decrease after coating regardless of sand blasting treatment. Nevertheless, it is confirmed that the compressive residual stress generated in the coating after sand blasting is less than that in the non-sandblasting coating. This was attributed to the plastic deformation occurring in the WC substrate during coating after sand blasting. In contrast to the scratch test results, sand blasting was assumed to have a negative effect on the adhesion between the coating and substrate. This is because there is a high possibility of microcracks due to plastic deformation in the WC substrate under the coating after sand blasting.

  • Environmental regulations in Korea for blasting at industrial sites have conservative standards, which often result in reduced efficiency and cost-effectiveness due to the consideration of environmental regulations and public complaints. Therefore, there is a need for blasting methods that can reduce environmental damage while improving construction efficiency and cost-effectiveness. In this study, we analyzed the effects of the PA-Deck (Paraffin Air-Deck) blasting method, which is a kind of Air Decoupled Charge method in principle utilizing a paraffin-infused paper tube as an air gap, on reducing blasting hazards and improving blasting efficiency. The analysis also evaluated the effectiveness of newly applied equipment for collecting blasting vibration data, and derived the relationship between the explosion velocity and vibration velocity of explosives, and performed frequency analysis of the vertical component. The results of the blasting vibration velocity analysis showed that the Paraffin Waxed Paper Tube-based blasting method exhibited significantly lower vibration velocities compared to conventional blasting methods, and it was judged that more uniformly small-sized fragmented rocks were generated.

  • Using Electronic Detonators which is well known for controlling vibration, we have been studying Orchestra Blasting Method, OBM, for many years to transform the unpleasant blasting sound to favorable sound in some job-sites such as tunneling and bench blasting which have to been taken place near some structures needed great care. In this study, we focus on rhythmical sense. First, we acquired individual wave from a shot. With the program named the Program Blasting Wave, PBW, it was analyzed and found that its best delay time was 34ms and 50ms was acceptable. Also, delay time was fitted into the music which was accepted after analyzing the rhythm. As a result, the blasting sound along with the music felt comfortable as if the music was played with base drum.

  • This paper introduces the combination of two blasting methods applied to reduce blast-vibration and increase blast efficiency. NDC (New Deck Charge) blasting method using air deck effect with separation tube made of paper was effective to reduce blast-vibration, while blast efficiency was decreased a little in the bottom of a blasthole. Wide Space blasting method has an advantage to control the fragmentation and to increase blast efficiency over conventional blasting methods. In this study new blasting method combining NDC blasting method and Wide Space blasting method was applied to the field, it was confirmed to reduce blast-vibration and increase blast efficiency. It is expected to make useful blasting method to cover the public complaints and to shorten construction time by accumulating blasting data using new method with various conditions.

  • Blasting technology aims to maximize digging efficiency as well as minimize vibration and noise. So, it is key point of blasting technology to raise blasting effect as much as possible and reduce vibration and noise and the design of PLHBM that is the tunnel blasting method having such merit was studied in this paper. PLHBM has the excellent blasting efficiency as it drills the empty hole with high caliber of 250~1,000mm at centre cut, contributes to blasting vibration reduction effect much and can be usefully applied to tunnel blasting sites. So it is judged that it enables the development of tunnel blasting method to be advanced one more step by studying and suggesting the design method of PLHBM.

  • It proceed the trial test by applying blasting system with combination of electronic detonator and non-electric detonator(Supex Blasting Method) for the purpose of preventing the over-break as well as controling the blasting vibration and noisy at the site of Boseong-Imseongri railroad section ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$. As a result of that, the blasting vibration and noisy was measured within the allowable standard of vibration. In conclusion, the combination of electronic detonator and non-electric detonator can not only reduce come construction cost, level of vibration and noisy but also get the prevention effect for Public resentment and minimize the rock-damage through over break control.
