  • One of the most important functions of a biped robot is to walk naturally like human. For the human being, toe is very important joint in order to walk naturally. Thus, for a biped robot, the existence of toe joint much affects gait pattern generation and contributes to natural walking, which is similar to the human gait or faster walking like running. Since a conventional biped robot has the feet which consist of soles without toes, it seems difficult to walk naturally. For realizing the gait to be similar to human one, toes are necessary to the biped robot. In this paper, the effect of the toe joint for gait pattern generation is studied. In order to find the effect of toe joint, a biped r...

  • Generally, biped walking is difficult to control because a biped robot is a nonlinear system with various uncertainties. In this paper, we propose a hybrid sliding-mode control method using a WNN uncertainty observer for stable walking of the 5-link biped robot with model uncertainties and the external disturbance. In our control system, the sliding mode control is used as main controller for the stable walking and a wavelet neural network(WNN) is used as an uncertainty observe. to estimate uncertainties of a biped robot model, and the error compensator is designed to compensate the reconstruction error of the WNN. The weights of WNN are trained by adaptation laws that are induced from the Lyapunov stability theorem. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control system is verified through computer simulations.

  • This paper presents a robust control method via the intelligent adaptive backstepping design technique for stable walking of nine-link biped robots with unknown model uncertainties and external disturbances. In our control structure, the self recurrent wavelet neural network(SRWNN) which has the information storage ability is used to observe the uncertainties of the biped robots. The adaptation laws for all weights of the SRWNN are induced from the Lyapunov stability theorem, which are used for on-line controlling biped robots. Also, we prove that all signals in the closed-loop adaptive system are uniformly ultimately bounded. Through computer simulations of a nine-link biped robot with model uncertainties and external disturbances, we illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control system.

  • This paper proposes a method that minimizes the consumed energy by searching the optimal locations of the mass centers of the biped robot's links using Genetic Algorithm. This paper presents a learning controller for repetitive gait control of the biped robot. The learning control scheme consists of a feedforward learning nile and linear feedback control input for stabilization of learning system. The feasibility of learning control to the biped robotic motion is shown via computer simulation and experimental results with 24 DOF biped walking robot.

  • This paper aims to generate the static walking pattern of a biped robot on stairs and to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm using its ankle and pelvis. Differently from the previous biped robots, our biped robot has the peculiar mechanism on its ankle and pelvis. By using this mechanism, we can reduce the load in the knee when a biped robot ascends the stairs. This means that a biped robot can climb up a higher step. The stairs walking trajectory that is separated into a ankle trajectory and a pelvis trajectory is generated by cubic spline interpolation. Finally, we confirm the feasibility of the proposed algorithm through the computer simulation and the real walking experiment.

  • In this paper, we propose a new learning control scheme for various walk motion control of biped robot with same learning-base by neural network. We show that learning control algorithm based on the neural network is significantly more attractive intelligent controller design than previous traditional forms of control systems. A multi layer back propagation neural network identification is simulated to obtain a dynamic model of biped robot. Once the neural network has learned, the other neural network control is designed for various trajectory tracking control with same learning-base. The biped robots have been received increased attention due to several properties such as its human like mobility and the high-order dynamic equation. These properties enable the biped robots to perform the dangerous works instead of human beings. Thus, the stable walking control of the biped robots is a fundamentally hot issue and has been studied by many researchers. However, legged locomotion, it is difficult to control the biped robots. Besides, unlike the robot manipulator, the biped robot has an uncontrollable degree of freedom playing a dominant role for the stability of their locomotion in the biped robot dynamics. From the simulation and experiments the reliability of iterative learning control was illustrated.

  • In this paper, a novel method is proposed for generating the low-power and stable walking trajectory of biped robots, and then a biped robot with 25 DOFs(degrees of freedom) is designed and implemented for the realization of the low-power walking trajectory generated by the proposed method. In our method, first a stable VPCG(vertically projected center of gravity) trajectory is generated, and then the trajectories of ankle and pelvis of a biped robot are planned to follow the preplanned stable VPCG trajectory, which produces a waking pattern without bending its knees and enables a biped robot to walk with less power consumption. On the other hand, a biped robot implemented in this paper has the mechanical structure of foot that enables a biped robot to support on the ground well, and the mechanical structure of pelvis that enables a biped robot to move flexibly. From results of the walking experiment and power consumption measurement, it was confirmed that the proposed method can generate the more stable and flexible trajectory with less power consumption compared with the existing methods which do not use the ankle of a biped robot.

  • This paper deals with a human-like gait generation of a biped robot with a balancing weight of an inverted pendulum type by using genetic algorithm. The ZMP (Zero Moment Point) is the most important index in a biped robot's dynamic walking stability. To perform a stable walking of a biped robot, a balancing motion is required according to legs' trajectories and a desired ZMP trajectory. A dynamic equation of the balancing motion is nonlinear due to an inverted pendulum type's balancing weight. To solve the nonlinear equation by the FDM (Finite Difference Method), a linearized model of equation is proposed. And GA (Genetic Algorithm) is applied to optimize a human-like balancing motion of a biped robot. By genetic algorithm, the index of the balancing motion is efficiently optimized, and a dynamic walking stability is verified by the ZMP verification equation. These balancing motion are simulated and experimented with a real biped robot IWR-IV. This human-like gait generation will be applied to a humanoid robot, at future work.

  • This paper presents a design and a control of a biped walking RGO-robot and dynamic walking simulation for this system. The biped walking RGO-robot is distinguished from other one by which has a very light-weight and a new AGO type with servo motors. The gait of a biped walking RGO-robot depends on the constrains of mechanical kinematics and initial posture. The stability of dynamic walking is investigated by ZMP(Zero Moment Point) of the biped walking RGO-robot. It is designed according to a human wear type and is able to accomodate itself to human environments. The joints of each leg are adopted with a good kinematic characteristics. To test of the analysis of joint kinematic properties, we did the strain stress analysis of dynamic PLS and the study of FEM with a dynamic PLS. It will be expect that the spinal cord injury patients are able to train effectively with a biped walking AGO-robot.
