Consumer Perceptions and Consumer Behavior Toward Bio-Based Products: An Empirical Study in Vietnam

  • Green economy, also known as sustainable economy, is a current development trend in which consumers prefer products that are wholly or partly derived from materials of biological origin since they have become more concerned about their health and the environment in which they live. This study aims to examine consumer behavior toward bio-based products with three key goals in mind. First, it helps to understand the perception of consumers toward Bio-based products. Second, it properly helps consumers be aware of products derived from materials of biological origin so that the consumer can make purchasing decisions to protect their health and contribute to the protection of the environment. Third, the study on consumer behavior towards bio-based products will provide a more accurate view and assessment to companies looking to develop Bio-based products. Based on that, the research is carried out through surveying, collecting data from consumers, and then using the deductive approach, descriptive statistics, and quantitative method analysis. The results demonstrated that a positive relationship and a direct impact are established between the variables of Attitude and Social Norms and the Purchase Intention toward Bio-based products. Furthermore, the findings reveal that customers have positive feelings towards bio-based products in terms of trust, knowledge, and the environment.

폐식물유 기반 다이머산 유도체의 합성 및 경유의 윤활성능 (Synthesis and Lubricating Properties of Dimer Acid Derivatives Based on Used Vegetable Oil)

  • 경유의 윤활성향상제로 사용하기 위하여 식물유 기반 다이머산 유도체를 합성하여 윤활성능을 평가하였다. 다이머산 유도체의 합성은 2단계의 반응을 거쳐 합성하였는데, 1단계 반응으로 폐식물유(다크오일)를 가수분해반응을 통하여 합성한 지방산을 사용하여 고온에서 디엘스-알더 반응을 행하여 다이머산을 합성하였다. 2단계 반응으로 합성한 다이머산을 사용하여 메탄올과 에스테르화 반응을 행하여 다이머산 유도체를 합성하였다. 합성한 다이머산 유도체는 1 wt% 범위 내에서 초저유황 경유에 잘 용해되었으며 일정량(120 ppm)을 초저유황 경유에 첨가하여 HFRR 시험법으로 마모흔을 측정하여 윤활성능을 평가하였다. 그 결과, 첨가 전 초저유황 경유의 마모흔의 직경이 $552{\mu}m$에서 첨가 후 $300{\sim}05{\mu}m$으로 현저히 작아져 초저유황 경유의 윤활성능을 향상하는 것으로 확인되었다. 한편, 식물유의 종류에 따른 마모흔의 차이는 크지 않아 다이머산 유도체의 알킬기의 구조에 따른 윤활성능의 차이는 크게 나타나지 않았으나, 카르복실산 그룹을 함유하는 다이머산 유도체가 함유하지 않은 유도체보다 윤활성능이 우수하였다.

그린팀버월 패널의 전단성능 (Shear performance of green timber wall panels)

  • Korean building industry was developed by concrete and steel construction. However, concrete and steel have some problems which low carbon storage capability and difficulty of recycling. According to many studies, timber has high carbon storage capability, high recycling capability and sustainable supporting capability. Focus on this factors of timber, make new wall structure as Green Timber Wall panels and check the shear performance to use wall system in housing construction such as light-weight timber construction and nondearing wall on other construction. In the results, B-4-B and B-4-S show similar modulus of shear stiffness on the table. GH-4-GH has slip shape failure mode between Green Timber Wall boards. GH-4-GV has most stable characteristic curve than other specimens.

방직용 재생펄프 제조를 위한 면 린터의 자기가수분해 공정 개발 (Development of Auto-hydrolysis Method for Preparing Cotton Linter Regenerated Fibers of Textile Fabrics)

  • The molecular weight (MW) and crystallinity of cotton linter need to be controlled to be dissolved well in N-methylmorpholine N-oxide (NMMO) solvent for manufacturing regenerated fibers of clothing fabrics. Electron beam irradiation or sulfuric acid pre-treatment followed by alkaline peroxide bleaching has been used to control MW effectively and to improve brightness of cotton linter. Auto-hydrolysis of cotton linter without electron beam irradiation or chemical pre-treatment was found to be effective as an alternative pre-treatment method. Removal of metal ions, that hampered dissolution of cotton linter by NMMO, was also investigated when the auto-hydrolysis was accompanied with ionic polymers and chelating agent.

  • 대표적인 친환경 소재인 바이오복합재(bio-composite)의 제조를 위해 기질 고분자로는 생분해성 고분자인 polybutylene succinate (PBS)를 그리고 충전제(filler)로는 대나무 분말(bamboo flour, BF)을 사용하였다. 본 연구에서는 BF의 함량 및 입자 크기가 바이오복합재의 기계적 점탄성적 특성 및 열적 특성에 미치는 영향을 평가하였는데 천연충전제인 BF의 첨가에 따라 인장강도는 감소하였지만 점탄성적 및 열적 특성은 고분자와의 상호작용을 통해 보다 안정적인 결과를 보였다. 또한, 소수성을 나타내는 PBS와 친수성인 BF 사이의 낮은 계면 결합이 바이오복합재의 물성 저하에 영향을 미친다는 사실이 확인되었다.

  • 친환경 건축자재에 대한 관심이 높아짐에 따라서 가구 및 건축 내외장재로 사용되는 목질복합재료에 대한 친환경적 성능에 대한 요구는 점차 커져가는 추세이다. 목질 복합재료는 일반적으로 그 자체로 사용하기 보다는 표면재를 붙여서 사용하는데 이때 사용되는 요소포름알데히드 접착제를 친환경적인 SIS계 핫벨트 점착제로 대체코자 하는 데 이 연구의 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서는 기질고분자의 diblock 함량, 점착부여수지의 연화점 및 함량 등을 변화시키면서 여러 종류의 핫벨트 점착제를 제조하고 각각의 점착제에 의한 무늬목 부착성능을 평가함으로써 점착형 표면재에 대한 가능성을 제기하였다.

  • Intumescent system is a highly effective flame retardant technology that takes advantage of the mechanism of foaming and carbonization. In order to materialize Intumescent system, it is necessary to use reinforcement material to improve the strength of the material. In this study, we used kenaf as a natural fiber to manufacture intumescent/EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) composites to improve mechanical and flame retardant performance. Finally two materials with different particle shape are applied to one system. Therefore, the influence factors of the particles with different shapes on the composite material were analyzed based on the tensile test. For this purpose, we have used the tensile strength analysis model and confirmed that it can only act as a partial strength reinforcement due to weak binding force between the matrix and particles. In the combustion characteristics analysis using cone calorimeter and UL 94, the combustion characteristics were enhanced as the content of Intuemscent was increased. As the content of kenaf increased, combustion characteristics were strengthened and carbonization characteristics were weakened. Through the application of kenaf, it can be confirmed that elastic modulus improvement and combustion characteristics can be strengthened, which confirmed the possibility of development of environmentally friendly flame retardant materials.

  • Cattail (Typha L.) was used as a raw material for producing both bio-ethanol and pulp for papermaking at the same time. Pretreatments of cattail stems and leaves with acid ($H_2SO_4$) and alkali (NaOH) in three different addition levels were studied before soda pulping. The acid pretreatment gave reducing sugar of 15.2% of initial weight, but alkali pretreatment close to 1%. Soda pulping of the pretreated cattail gave 3% reduction in pulp yield and less bonding properties in paper; however, refining of the pulp from the pretreated cattail with alkali restored their fiber bondings up to that of the pulp from no-pretreated cattail at equivalent freeness.
