  • To assess an economic value of Cheonggyecheon river restoration project, an in-depth exit survey data was collected to apply travel cost method in this study. Poisson model, Negative Binomial, Zero-truncated Poisson, and Zero-truncated Negative Binomial model were executed due to the nature of count data. Empirical results showed that regressors were statistically significant and corresponded to general consumer theory. Since our survey data showed over-dispersion, Zero-truncated Negative Binomial was selected as an optimal one to analyze travel demand of Cheonggyecheon by model goodness of fit test among those aforementioned empirical models. Estimating an economic value of Cheonggyecheon river restoration project, which is known as an ecological river restoration project, we used annual visit of individual traveler and an optimal model. Suffice to say that the annual economic value of Cheonggyecheon river restoration project was estimated as 193.4 billion won in 2013.

  • We propose some properties for fuzzy binomial proportion test by agreement index. First we define fuzzy probability space and fuzzy type I error and type II error for the fuzzy probability of the two type errors. Also, we show that a fuzzy power function of performance for a fuzzy hypothesis test and drawing conclusions from the test.

  • In this paper, we proposed a generalized bivariate negative binomial distribution allowing heterogeneous dispersions on two dependent variables based on a trivariate reduction technique. In this model, we propose the score and LR tests for testing the equality of dispersions and compare the efficiencies of the proposed tests using a Monte Carlo study. The Monte Carlo study shows that the proposed score and LR tests prove to be an efficient test for the equality of dispersions in the view of the significance level and power. However, the score test is easier to compute than the LR test and it shows a slightly better performance than the LR test from the Monte Carlo study, we suggest the use of score tests for testing the equality of dispersions on two dependent variables. In addition, an empirical example is provided to illustrate the results.

  • In this paper, we consider simultaneous confidence intervals for the difference of proportions between two groups taken from multivariate binomial distributions in a nonparametric way. We briefly discuss the construction of simultaneous confidence intervals using the method of adjusting the p-values in multiple tests. The features of bootstrap simultaneous confidence intervals using non-pooled samples are presented. We also compute confidence intervals from the adjusted p-values of multiple tests in the Westfall (1985) style based on a pooled sample. The average coverage probabilities of the bootstrap simultaneous confidence intervals are compared with those of the Bonferroni simultaneous confidence intervals and the Sidak simultaneous confidence intervals. Finally, we give an example that shows how the proposed bootstrap simultaneous confidence intervals can be utilized through data analysis.

  • This paper discusses the generalized mixed-effects model for the analysis of overdispersed binomial data. Sometimes certain types of sampling designs or genetic characters of experimental units can be regarded as factors of extra binomial variation. For such cases, this paper suggests models with one or two random effects to explain overdispersion caused by those affecting factors and shows how to test for a model adequacy based on deviance.

  • For the Change-point problem in a sequence of binomial variables we consider the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of unknown change-point. Its asymptotic distribution is quite limited in the case of binomial variables with different numver of trials at each time point. Hinkley and Hinkley (1970) gives an asymptotic distribution of the MLE for a sequence of Bernoulli random variables. To find the asymptotic distribution a numerical method such as bootstrap can be used. Another concern of our interest in the inference on the change-point and we derive confidence sets based on the liklihood ratio test(LRT). We find approximate confidence sets from the bootstrap distribution and compare the two results through an example.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the factors that affect college students' drinking needs and spending. An analysis model to estimate the determinants affecting drinking needs was applied with a truncated Poisson model and a truncated negative binomial model. Tests to select more appropriate models of the two types were made using the comparison of log-likelihood function and the over-dispersion test. The analysis result was interpreted by applying the truncated negative binomial model as the truncated Poisson model showed over-dispersion. We also applied the Tobit model to analyze the determinantsthat affect college students' expenditure on drinking. According to the analysis, gender, grade, allowance and parental occupation were the factors influencing statistics, and gender, type of household income, and student religion were the factors influencing expenditure.

  • This study applied and compared Poisson model, negative binomial model, zero inflated Poisson model, and zero inflated negative binomial model to estimate determinants of employed labour quantity. To estimate each of models, this study used fisheries census data which were obtained at microdata integrated service running by Statistics Korea. The study selected zero inflated negative binomial model according to the Vuong test and Likelihood-ratio test. In addition, the study estimated fishing village's practical changes on employed labour quantity as analyzing changes from 2010 to 2015. The results showed that the household with fishing vessels and high selling price had a significant effect on decrease of the labour quantities. Meanwhile, the longer work experience of the household, the more significant the increase in the labour quantities. In conclusion, this study presented that capitalized fishing household and the acceleration of aging had a significant impact on the change in the labour quantities.

  • There have been various researches on the relationship between a company's R&D investment and the outcome from innovation. However, these studies failed to effectively analyze the decision-making process followed by companies in relation to knowledge production. Especially, in analyzing the patent of companies, the Poisson model has been commonly used, but its limitations have been pointed out. In recent years, many studies have adopted negative binomial models, but they still pose limitations in analyzing the selection process. This paper proposed a hurdle negative binomial model to effectively reflect the company's decision embedded within patent information and conduct an empirical analysis on a survey of businesses' activities. In particular, the study analyzed the selection process of companies in determining the number of patents. As a result of estimation, the presence of over-dispersion was identified. In addition, the Wald-test confirmed that setting up of hurdles was valid, and there was a difference between the results of hurdle models and those of general negative binomial settings.

  • This study, investigates the effects of dispersion parameters between two response variables in zero-truncated bivariate generalized Poisson distributions. A Monte Carlo study shows that the zero-truncated bivariate Poisson and negative binomial models fit poorly wherein the zero-truncated bivariate count data has heterogeneous dispersion parameters on dependent variables. In addition, we derive the score test for testing the equality of the dispersion parameters and compare its efficiency with the likelihood ratio test.
