  • Poisson regression and negative binomial regression are usually used to analyze counting data; however, these models are unsuitable for fit zero-inflated data that contain unexpected zero-valued observations. In this paper, we review the zero-inflated regression in which Bernoulli process and the counting process are hierarchically mixed. It is known that zero-inflated regression can efficiently model the over-dispersion problem. Vuong statistic is employed to compare performances of the zero-inflated models with other standard models.

  • The constrained maximum likelihood estimation of the number of trials in several binomial populations under order restriction, such as simple order, is discussed. The estimation procedure is based on, so called, pool adjacent violators algorithm. Three handy estimators are given and their performances are compared using an artificial example.

  • We consider the problem of estimating binomial proportions in the presence of nonignorable nonresponse using the Bayesian selection approach. Inference is sampling based and Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods are used to perform the computations. We apply our method to study doctor visits data from the Korean National Family Income and Expenditure Survey (NFIES). The ignorable and nonignorable models are compared to Stasny's method (1991) by measuring the variability from the Metropolis-Hastings (MH) sampler. The results show that both models work very well.

  • Mixed effect binomial regression models are widely used for analysis of correlated count data in which the response is the result of a series of one of two possible disjoint outcomes. In this paper, we consider kernel extensions with nonparametric fixed effects and parametric random effects. The estimation is through the penalized likelihood method based on kernel trick, and our focus is on the efficient computation and the effective hyperparameter selection. For the selection of hyperparameters, cross-validation techniques are employed. Examples illustrating usage and features of the proposed method are provided.

  • The distribution of staff in a hierachial organization has been studied in a variety of forms and models. Results here show that the promotion process follows a binomial distribution with parameters n and $\alpha=e^{-pt}$ and the recruitment process follows a poisson distribution with parameter $\lambda$. Futhermore, the mean time to promotion in the grade was estimated.

  • The work presented in this paper is divided into two parts. The first part presents finite urn problems which generate truncated negative binomial random variables. Some combinatorial identities that arose from the negative binomial sampling and truncated negative binomial sampling are established. These identities are constructed and serve important roles when we deal with these distributions and their characteristics. Other important results including cumulants and moments of the distributions are given in somewhat simple forms. Second, the distributions of the maximum of two chi-square variables and the distributions of the maximum correlated F-variables are then derived within the negative binomial sampling scheme. Although multinomial theory applied to order statistics and standard transformation techniques can be used to derive these distributions, the negative binomial sampling approach provides more information and deeper insight regarding the nature of the relationship between the sampling vehicle and the probability distributions of these functions of chi-square variables. We also provide an algorithm to compute the percentage points of these distributions. We supplement our findings with exact simple computational methods where no interpolations are involved.

  • In this paper, we consider simultaneous confidence intervals for the difference of proportions between two groups taken from multivariate binomial distributions in a nonparametric way. We briefly discuss the construction of simultaneous confidence intervals using the method of adjusting the p-values in multiple tests. The features of bootstrap simultaneous confidence intervals using non-pooled samples are presented. We also compute confidence intervals from the adjusted p-values of multiple tests in the Westfall (1985) style based on a pooled sample. The average coverage probabilities of the bootstrap simultaneous confidence intervals are compared with those of the Bonferroni simultaneous confidence intervals and the Sidak simultaneous confidence intervals. Finally, we give an example that shows how the proposed bootstrap simultaneous confidence intervals can be utilized through data analysis.

  • In this paper, the problem of information related to I binomial experiments, each having a distinct probability of success ${\theta}_i$, i = 1,2, $\cdots$, I, is considered. Instead of using a standard exchangeable prior for ${\theta}\;=\;({\theta}_1,\;{\theta}_2,\;{\cdots},\;{\theta}_I)$, we con-sider a partition of the experiments and take the ${\theta}_i$'s belonging to the same partition subset to be exchangeable and the ${\theta}_i$'s belonging to distinct subsets to be independent. And we perform Gibbs sampler approach for Bayesian inference on $\theta$ conditional on a partition. Also we illustrate the methodology with a real data.

  • The one of analytic imputation technique involving conditional means was mentioned by Schafer and Schenker(2000). And their derivations are based on asymptotic expansions of point estimator and their associated variance estimator, and the result of imputation can be thought of as first-order approximations to the estimators. Specially in this paper, we are presenting the method of estimating a Binomial proportion with Bayesian approach of imputed conditional means. That is, instead of using maximum likelihood(ML) estimator to estimate a Binomial proportion, in general, we use the Bayesian estimators and will show the result of estimated Imputed conditional means.
