  • This study intends to design the bibliographic framework based on IFLA-FRBR model for television program materials and to evaluate this in terms of effectiveness of retrieval and usability of the system. The FRBR model supplies mote suitable bibliographic framework of audio-visual material which has a sufficient hierarchical relations and relative bibliographical records. The followings are research methods designed by this study; (1) The experimental metadata system named it FbCS based on FRBR was developed by using the entity-related database and composed of multi-layed and hierarchy. FbCS is developed through benchmarking of a case study for iMMix model in Netherlands based on FRBR. (2) To evaluate effectiveness of retrieval and usability of FbCS, this study made a experiment and survey by user groups of professionals.

  • Intellectual structure analysis, which quantitatively identifies the structure, characteristics, and sub-domains of fields, has rapidly increased in recent years. Analysis techniques traditionally used to conduct intellectual structure analysis research include bibliographic coupling analysis, co-citation analysis, co-occurrence analysis, and author bibliographic coupling analysis. This study proposes a novel intellectual structure analysis method, Keyword Bibliographic Coupling Analysis (KBCA). The Keyword Bibliographic Coupling Analysis (KBCA) is a variation of the author bibliographic coupling analysis, which targets keywords instead of authors. It calculates the number of references shared by two keywords to the degree of coupling between the two keywords. A set of 1,366 articles in the field of 'Open Data' searched in the Web of Science were collected using the proposed KBCA technique. A total of 63 keywords that appeared more than 7 times, extracted from 1,366 article sets, were selected as core keywords in the open data field. The intellectual structure presented by the KBCA technique with 63 key keywords identified the main areas of open government and open science and 10 sub-areas. On the other hand, the intellectual structure network of co-occurrence word analysis was found to be insufficient in the overall structure and detailed domain structure. This result can be considered because the KBCA sufficiently measures the relationship between keywords using the degree of bibliographic coupling.

  • This study examines how CIP program of the Library of Congress distributes, provides an access to, and helps upgrade CIP data through bibliographic utilities. LC CIP program can be characterized by the participation of many U.S. mainstream publishers, a continuing increase in the number of CIP data assigned annually, and an effort to immediately upgrade the completeness and accuracy of CIP data in cooperation with bibliographic utilities. Cooperation between LC and bibliographic utilities in performing quality control is worth noting, when compared with the limitation of CIP program of the National Library of Korea. It is suggested that the National Library of Korea should provide complete and accurate bibliographic and authority records for other types of new and old library materials published in Korea as well as CIP data for new monographic materials.

  • This study aims to present a revised draft of KORMARC bibliographic format that was first revised in 2014. To this end, data collection and analysis methods are as follows. First, the opinions of cataloging working groups for revision of KORMARC including the National Library of Korea (NLK) and KERIS were collected and analyzed. Second, work guidelines used in libraries or cooperative catalog systems were analyzed. Third, by comparing MARC21 update No.32 (June 2021) with the KORMARC bibliographic format, elements that need to be reflected in the KORMARC revision were derived. Finally, issues that have been raised in previous studies or that require further discussion were examined. Based on these analysis results, an outlines of the extension and deletion of KORMARC fields, subfields, and indicators, and supplementation of application guidelines and examples were derived. The final revision directions were finalized after collecting expert opinions, the working group reviews, and comprehensive opinions from the library community.

  • Remotely accessible information resources are greatly increasing in number and importance, but these are stored in different systems and in different formats all over the world. For this reason, the bibliographic control must be established for the network information resources. This paper intends to describe the characteristics of electronic resources. to review bibliographic elements of ISBD(ER) related to the bibliographic description of remote electronic resources. and to comparatively analyze ISBD(ER), AACR2R Chapter 9, OCLC manual. CCM Module 31, and USMARC.

  • The purpose of this study is measure library use behaviors among faculty members and faculty awarenesses toward bibliographic education for undergraduates. Questionnaire listings offered by C university library were sent 200 faculties. 56% responded questionnaires were analyzed. The results are as follows. $\circledS1$They used library one more times per a month and during vocations & prefered to use scholarly journals. $\circledS2$They wanted 'subscription for scholarly journals,' 'inter-library loan,' but they seldom experienced in inter-library loan. $\circledS3$They gained the library skills in experiences and they had the average level of library skills. They used secondary sources and recognized traditional reference services. $\circledS5$They intended to bibliographic education for the faculty and the wanted group of 10 less and education for the new faculty members. $\circledS6$They though the students should be able to learn needed library skills. but wasn't necessary. $\circledS7$They intended to intergrate bibliographic education and cooperate with librarians. But they hadn't been familiar with librarians and encouraged students to use library.

  • This study aims at defining the concept of OPAC, tracing of research trends and development of it, and clarifying various methods of subject access and patterns of bibliographic searching in OPAC as well as strategies for improving to implement online catalogs. Although OPAC is so far the most user-friendly bibliographic searching method, there are still a lot of issues including online subject access in particular. Therefore a more effective and useful method for computer end-users have to be developed, for instance, improvement of an indexing system, a n.0, pplication of the classification system as a searching tool, a new design and construction of standardized thesaurus, betterment of user interface, introducing of expert system into bibliographic searching, establishment of subject authority file. Those would raise the success-rate of users seeking bibliographic information in the library catalogs. Korean libraries are in very early stage of OPAC implementation so that every efforts and concerns to improve strategies and techniques for subject access to OPAC have been strongly asked.

  • In this paper, the conceptual model for bibliographic Information consistent and compatible with MARC is presented. The modeling requirements are derived from MARC-related models such as MARC21, MARCXML and MODES. To meet these requirements, this paper proposes the conceptual model based on MARC formalism. The model composed with aggregation relationships among bibliographic data elements can use semantic tags of XML. As the model can be realized into diverse structures, it will be effectively applied for the development of bibliographic information management systems. Since MARC defines only record format and has the limitations in semantic representation, the metadata system that can expand bibliographic data elements in MRAC into metadata level is strongly required.

  • This paper provides a brief overview of bibliographic relationships, a analysis of bibliographic relationships' characteristics of 2,940 bibliographic records on the Five Classics and Four Books taken from Korean National Bibliography, and a methodology for applying the FRBR model based on analysis of the samples. As results of analysis, the work type ranked high particularly in the commentary, translation with notes, and translation on the original works etc. I suggested adopting conception of supper works, that is, family of works and using uniform title as a connective device between the works, that is, an authorized access point of RDA to apply FRBR model of the Five Classics and Four Books. Also I exemplified the description of uniform title in 630 field as subject added entry.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine current issues in theories and practices of bibliographic organization of and access to the Web resources. and find out how to apply them to libraries in Korea. Literature reviews and case studies of five major academic Libraries in Korea as well as United State were conducted to describe and analyze patterns of actual bibliographic organization and access. Libraries definitely vary in how to organize or integrate bibliographic records of Web resources into OPAC and how they provide access to electronic journals and selected Web sites. Academic libraries in Korea are expected to collect more systematically and comprehensively Web resources of high quality and establish strategic plans for building reliable Web resource collection.
