This paper provides a non-Bayesian method based on the expanded EM algorithm for segmenting the magnetic resonance images degraded by bias field. For the images with the intensity as a pixel value, many segmentation methods often fail to segment it because of the bias field(with low frequency) as well as noise(with high frequency). Our contextual approach is appropriately designed by using normal mixture model incorporated with Markov random field for noise-corrective segmentation and by using the penalized likelihood to estimate bias field for efficient bias filed-correction.

The ship-borne mobile down range telemetry antenna system having 4.6 m reflector antenna and 3-axis mounting structure at S-band requires the precise pointing accuracy at sea for the launch mission. Using the LEO satellites tracking, a method to determine and verify the antenna pointing and tracking performance, and to find the pointing bias which dominantly contributes to the pointing inaccuracy, is presented. Based upon the tests conducted on the Jeju sea and Pacific sea, the pointing bias is determined and its origin is also identified as the drift of the heading angle of the gyrocompass. The applied systematic correction taking into account the pointing bias, and the achieved improvement of the pointing accuracy are shown. Thanks to the correction, it is presented that this antenna tracked the launcher(KSLV-I) stably within the required pointing accuracy in the following KSLV-I third launch.
A new physical/statistical diagnostic downscale model has been developed for use to improve near-surface air temperature forecasts. The model includes a series of physical and statistical correction methods that account for un-resolved topographic and land-use effects as well as statistical bias errors in a low-resolution atmospheric model. Operational temperature forecasts of the Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System (LDAPS) were downscaled at 100 m resolution for three months, which were used to validate the model's physical and statistical correction methods and to compare its performance with the forecasts of the Korea Meteorological Administration Post-processing (KMAP) system. The validation results showed positive impacts of the un-resolved topographic and urban effects (topographic height correction, valley cold air pool effect, mountain internal boundary layer formation effect, urban land-use effect) in complex terrain areas. In addition, the statistical bias correction of the LDAPS model were efficient in reducing forecast errors of the near-surface temperatures. The new high-resolution downscale model showed better agreement against Korean 584 meteorological monitoring stations than the KMAP, supporting the importance of the new physical and statistical correction methods. The new physical/statistical diagnostic downscale model can be a useful tool in improving near-surface temperature forecasts and diagnostics over complex terrain areas.
This paper shows analysis of digital correction of pipelined ADC. Sub-ADCs have some margin because of digital correction so, it can be reduced bias current for minimizing power dissipation.
Artifact corrections including normalization and attenuation correction were important for quantitative analysis in Nuclear Medicine Imaging. Normalization is the process of ensuring that all lines of response joining detectors in coincidence have the same effective sensitivity. Failure to account for variations in LOR sensitivity leads to bias and high-frequency artifacts in the reconstructed images. Attenuation correction is the process of the correction of attenuation phenomenon lies in the natural property that photons emitted by the radiopharmaceutical will interact with tissue and other materials as they pass through the body. In this paper, we will review the several approaches for normalization and attenuation correction strategies.
Drought monitoring is the important system for disasters by climate change. To perform this, it is necessary to measure the precipitation based on satellite rainfall estimation. The data developed in this study provides two kinds of satellite data (raw satellite data and bias-corrected satellite data). The spatial resolution of satellite data is 10 km and the temporal resolution is 1 day. South Korea was selected as the target area, and the original satellite data was constructed, and the bias-correction method was validated. The raw satellite data was constructed using TRMM TMPA and GPM IMERG products. The GRA-IDW was selected for bias-correction method. The correlation coefficient of 0.775 between 1998 and 2017 is relatively high, and TRMM TMPA and GPM IMERG 10 km daily rainfall correlation coefficients are 0.776 and 0.753, respectively. The BIAS values were found to overestimate the raw satellite data over observed data. By using the technique developed in this study, it is possible to provide reliable drought monitoring to Korean peninsula watershed. It is also a basic data for overseas projects including the un-gaged regions. It is expected that reliable gridded data for end users of drought management.

As the frequency of localized heavy rainfall has increased during recent years, the importance of high-resolution radar data has also increased. This study aims to correct the bias of Dual Polarization radar that still has a spatial and temporal bias. In many studies, various statistical techniques have been attempted to correct the bias of radar rainfall. In this study, the bias correction of the S-band Dual Polarization radar used in flood forecasting of ME was implemented by a Convolutional Autoencoder (CAE) algorithm, which is a type of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The CAE model was trained based on radar data sets that have a 10-min temporal resolution for the July 2017 flood event in Cheongju. The results showed that the newly developed CAE model provided improved simulation results in time and space by reducing the bias of raw radar rainfall. Therefore, the CAE model, which learns the spatial relationship between each adjacent grid, can be used for real-time updates of grid-based climate data generated by radar and satellites.
Many climate studies have used the general circulation models (GCMs) for climate change, which can be currently available more than sixty GCMs as part of the Assessment Report (AR5). There are several types of uncertainty in climate studies using GCMs. Various studies are currently being conducted to reduce the uncertainty associated with GCMs, and the bias correction method used to reduce the difference between the simulated and the observed rainfall. Therefore, this study mainly considered climate change scenarios from nine GCMs, and then quantile mapping methods were applied to correct biases in climate change scenarios for each station during the historical period (1970-2005). Moreover, the monthly rainfall for the future period (2011-2100) is obtained from the RCP 4.5 scenario. Based on the bias-corrected rainfall, the standard deviation and the inter-quartile range (IQR) from the first to third quartiles were estimated. For 2071-2100, the uncertainty for the selection of GCMs is larger than that for the selection of bias correction methods and vice versa for 2011-2040. Therefore, this study showed that the selection of GCMs and the bias correction methods can affect the result for the future climate projection.
This study proposes the framework to select the representative general circulation model (GCM) for climate change projection. The grid-based results of GCMs were transformed to all considered meteorological stations using inverse distance weighted (IDW) method and its results were compared to the observed precipitation. Six quantile mapping methods and random forest method were used to correct the bias between GCM's and the observation data. Thus, the empirical quantile which belongs to non-parameteric transformation method was selected as a best bias correction method by comparing the measures of performance indicators. Then, one of the multi-criteria decision techniques, TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Ideal Solution), was used to find the representative GCM using the performances of four GCMs after the bias correction using empirical quantile method. As a result, GISS-E2-R was the best and followed by MIROC5, CSIRO-Mk3-6-0, and CCSM4. Because these results are limited several GCMs, different results will be expected if more GCM data considered.

The Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models provide information for weather forecasts. The highly nonlinear and complex interactions in the atmosphere are simplified in meteorological models through approximations and parameterization. Therefore, the simplifications may lead to biases and errors in model results. Although the models have improved over time, the biased outputs of these models are still a matter of concern in meteorological and hydrological studies. Thus, bias removal is an essential step prior to using outputs of atmospheric models. The main idea of statistical bias correction methods is to develop a statistical relationship between modeled and observed variables over the same historical period. The Model Output Statistics (MOS) would be desirable to better match the real time forecast data with observation records. Statistical post-processing methods relate model outputs to the observed values at the sites of interest. In this study three methods are used to remove the possible biases of the real-time outputs of the Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model in Imjin basin (North and South Korea). The post-processing techniques include the Linear Regression (LR), Linear Scaling (LS) and Power Scaling (PS) methods. The MOS techniques used in this study include three main steps: preprocessing of the historical data in training set, development of the equations, and application of the equations for the validation set. The expected results show the accuracy improvement of the real-time forecast data before and after bias correction. The comparison of the different methods will clarify the best method for the purpose of the forecast skill enhancement in a real-time case study.
