The major findings are the followings: 1) Full-time homemakers spend 353 minutes(5.9 hours) on the average per day on the leisure. Time for active leisure(creative activities, sports activities, spectator events, going to the party, and so on) is 70 minutes, while that for passive leisure(watching TV. listening to the radio, reading newspapers. magazines. Books, chating, relaxing, card playing) is 283 minutes(4.7 hours). The passive leisure is the main type of spending leisure time. 2) The total leisure time of wives is significantly related to SES factors. The higher the wives age and education, the family income, and the age of the latest child, the more the wives total leisure time. But the more the family numbers, and the child numbers, the lower the leisure time. Active leisure time is highly rela ed to family income, while passive leisure time is considerably family composition. 3) The wives are mostly satisfied with their lives. The wives perceptions of the quality of life is related to wives's education, house type, and family income. 4) The wives total leisure time is not related to the quality of life. • Following breast cancer diagnosis, women often attempt to modify their lifestyles to improve their health and prevent recurrence. These behavioral changes typically involve diet and physical activity modification. The aim of this study was to determine association between healthy eating habits and physical activity with quality of life among Iranian breast cancer survivors. A total of 100 Iranian women, aged between 32 to 61 years were recruited to participate in this cross-sectional study. Eating practices were evaluated by a validated questionnaire modified from the Women's Healthy Eating and Living (WHEL) study. Physical activity was assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). A standardized questionnaire by the European Organization of Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life and its breast cancer module (EORTC QLQ-C30/+BR-23) were applied to determine quality of life. Approximately 29% of the cancer survivors were categorized as having healthy eating practices, 34% had moderate eating practices and 37% had poor eating practices based on nutrition guidelines. The study found positive changes in the decreased intake of fast foods (90%), red meat (70%) and increased intake of fruits (85%) and vegetables (78%). Generally, breast cancer survivors with healthy eating practices had better global quality of life, social, emotional, cognitive and role functions. Results showed that only 12 women (12%) met the criteria for regular vigorous exercise, 22% had regular moderate-intensity exercise while the majority (65%) had low-intensity physical activity. Breast cancer survivors with higher level of physical activity had better emotional and cognitive functions. Healthy eating practices and physical activity can improve quality of life of cancer survivors. Health care professionals should promote good dietary habits and physical activity to improve survivor's health and quality of life.

  • This study compared the effects of cocopeat and perlite growth media on the storability and quality of sweet pepper fruit stored using modified atmosphere packages (MAP) and carton boxes. The fruits were stored at 8℃ for 35 and 30 days, respectively. Perlite-grown fruits had a significantly lower size at harvest due to the medium's inability to hold plenty of water during the growing stage. Contrary to what is expected for small fruits, the result shows box-stored perlite-grown fruits to have lower weight loss and a longer shelf life than cocopeat-grown fruits, while MAP fruits have indifference. Perlite fruits also had a higher quality in terms of dry matter, soluble solids, and vitamin C, while box-stored fruits had a better visual quality. As expected, respiration and ethylene production rates were high, and fruits had similar after-storage firmness values. Based on the findings, perlite-grown sweet pepper fruits may have a better quality and give preference in a box storage condition.

  • The study thus examined and analyzed 1,478 people aged 65 or older in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey of 2010 to investigate the effects of differences in the elderly's general characteristics and depression & suicide ideation and in their subjective health perceptions and quality of life on their depression and suicide ideation. As a result, Significant differences in their suicide ideation were also caused by such quality of life variables as ill in bed, exercise capacity, self-management, daily activity, pain and uncomfortableness, and anxiety. The logistic analysis results of depression and suicide ideation according to the degree of subjective health perception show a significant finding that the better health perception they had compared with their very poor subjective health perception, the lower the odds ratio became. In the category of quality of life, only experience of uncomfortableness caused significant results on suicide ideation and depression. The results of the study will be of great use as basic data to intervene in the suicide route of the elderly and take measures to prevent suicide.
