  • In this study, the development of a three-screw pump for high-capacity discharge was carried out. Benchmarking and reverse engineering for advanced products were performed to design and manufacture power rotor and idler rotor for high capacity and high pressure. Through flow analysis, performance verification of the entire design was performed and prototypes were manufactured. As a result of performance evaluation on prototypes, it was found that the development specifications were satisfied.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of absorption coefficient models on the P1 radiation model for a premixed hydrogen flame containing the water vapor. A CFD combustion simulation analysis was performed using XiFoam, one of the open-source CFD solvers in OpenFOAM. The solver using the flamelet combustion model has been modified to implement radiative heat transfer. The absorption coefficient models used in this study the grey-mean model and constant model, and for comparison, case without radiation was added. This CFD simulation study consisted of benchmarking the THAI HD-15 and HD-22 experiments. The difference between the two tests is the inclusion of water vapor in the condition before ignition. In the case of the HD-22 experiment containing water vapor in the initial condition, the simulation results show that the grey-mean absorption coefficient model has a strong influence on the temperature decrease of the flame and on the change in pressure inside the vessel.

  • Construction companies in Korea have shown interest in BIM (Building Information Modeling) even if late, adopted it, and applied it to several projects. But, it is hard to figure out the status of BIM implementation. Thus, this study is to figure out the status of BIM implementation in Korea by surveying major construction companies in Korea and comparing with similar surveys abroad. The survey result shows that only 11 companies in Korean construction industry adopted BIM. The clash check (73%) was mostly used among various BIM functions and other functions were used less than 30%. As of 2008, only 8 construction companies have used BIM in 27 projects and thus, Korean companies are in the BIM introduction period. Therefore, successful introduction of BIM is required by benchmarking the BIM introduction process of overseas construction industries

  • This paper presents the measurement of efficiency for container ports. Data envelopment analysis(DEA), as it is called, has particular applicability in the service sector. Applying mathematical programming techniques, DEA enables relative efficiency ratings to be derived within a set of analysed units. This paper investigates the efficiency employing DEA Model on data for 53 container ports covering 1995-2001 in the world and the change in efficiency for 7 years. As a results, port of Busan was evaluated as inefficiency port compare with major ports of the world except 1995year and 1996year. But After 1997year, efficiency of Busan port is increasing somewhat better every year.

  • The purpose of this research is to find a better win-win growth strategy of Large and mid-sized IT service enterprises. Efficient win-win growth for large and mid-sized enterprises is essential for acquiring a solid global competitiveness in IT service industry. However, previous studies lack generalized and detailed findings, and therefore past strategies were based on fragmented analysis. To develop an efficient win-win growth for Large and mid-sized enterprises, global benchmarking and an in-depth analysis on deep-rooted problems in IT service industry has been conducted. Past and present policies on IT service industry have been reviewed based on desirable co-growth structure. Based on research, current policies are unable to support co-growth, and collaborative efforts between Large and mid-sized enterprises as well as square deals are necessary for win-win growth. A new policy paradigm has been derived and a roadmap for efficient co-growth strategy has been suggested. The results of this research can be used for building a better IT service industry polices. In future studies, a longitudinal analysis on the proposed co-growth strategy can be conducted.

  • This study aimed at setting up the grading indicator standards on development stages for phasing the continuous development process. To achieve the objective of this study, after referring to the proposed cases derived from the reference analysis, the development stages were classified. Also grading criteria of indicators according to development stages were established through the statistical analysis and expert group checking. Development stages of rural village were stepped into 4-stages through the reviews and analysis of reference literature ; preparation-entry-development-advanced stage. Reasonable achievement level of each development stage was established by considering the necessary development period and benchmarking reference target together. On the basis of these clear stepwise development phases, the grading criteria were proposed for determination of the incumbent development stages.

  • In the era of so-called knowledge-based economy, the creation and utilization of IT and new knowledge are recognized as core factors to enforce IT industry and to increase national competitiveness. Advanced countries, therefore, have heavily invested their resources on IT sector and introduced competition into the telecommunication market. ASEAN countries are trying to make themselves informationized society through IT market liberalization and industry development. They are investing lots of resources to construct IT infrastructure such as wired and wireless network and consider informationized society promotion as top national agenda. In this effort, Korea is a benchmarking model for them. Successful entering into ASEAN market requires close analysis and correct understanding of its IT policy and infrastructure. In this paper, therefore, tried to analyse IT policy and infrastructure of three ASEAN countries, which have high potential of economic cooperation in IT with Korea. And based on the analysis, tried to find out ways to enter into ASEAN.

  • Purpose To meet changing social demands and fulfill the needs of the information and communications technology industry, the curriculum of MIS related department should develop and implement new conceptual frameworks. In response, the purpose of this study was to develop curriculum for students in the Department of e-Business at Kyungnam University. Design/methodology/approach We conducted a demands analysis of educational demanders, NCS(National Competency Standards) based curricular analysis, and benchmarking from other management information systems related departments. The expert panel committee consisting of e-Business department faculty members was held to examine and discuss the student-oriented curriculum developed during this study. Findings Results show that the contents and types of curriculum should be organized so that students can maximize their professional job competency to apply to their core professional tasks. Given these findings, we reconstructed the curriculum with both basic and advanced courses, all systematically organized according to the job requirements they offer toward meeting the industry's needs. We also implemented the web-based JSSS(Job Searching Support System) with which educational demanders can search among 13 job types, estimate their performances, and obtain the information about course registration. In all this study presents specific, practical evidence of the job-related curriculum for students in the Department of e-Business at Kyungnam University.

  • An efficient industry structure is essential for competitive IT Service industry in a global world. The purpose of this research is to derive a policy direction paradigm for strengthening IT service industry structure. To find an effective policy direction, an in-depth analysis on deep-rooted problems of IT service industry has been conducted. The root-causes of industry problems are found with new perspectives on IT service industry. Past and present policies on IT service industry have been reviewed based on desirable industry behavior. A new policy paradigm and a roadmap for efficient industry policy are suggested. To justify adequacy of new policy direction, global benchmarking has been performed. USA, Germany, and Japan's IT service industry has been reviewed based on global competitiveness and desirable eco-system. And an in-depth analysis has been performed for two big competitors, India and China, The adequacy of the new policy paradigm has been tested, and mostly approved. IT service industry policy needs to be transformed from manufacturing concepts to service concepts, from domestic focus to global focus, from zero-sum policy to positive-sum policy, from supplier focus to market focus, from internal industry itself to co-growth with main industries. etc. The results of this study can be used for policy adjusting and policy making to strengthen IT service industry's global competitiveness and to improve long-term performance of Korean economy. Further in-depth researches with quantitative analysis will be needed to fully justify the adequacy of the derived new policy directions.

  • Data envelopment analysis is a relatively new data oriented approach to evaluate the performance of a set of peer entities called decision making units which convert multiple inputs into multiple outputs. It has been extensively applied in performance evaluation and benchmarking entities such as hospitals, universities, cities, courts, and business firms. This study provides the evaluating results of the operational efficiencies of local universities using a DEA approach. In addition, we explore the difference of the efficiency between regional flagship national universities and non-flagships.
